  1. Sox have to overpay. You can’t go this far playing poker and end up with nothing because you came up a little short on your offer.
  2. I don’t feel good about this. If the Sox have the highest offer and it’s really good why hasn’t he taken it? If they haven’t ponied up, what are they waiting for?
  3. I could see it happening. They want to dump Russell, so it would make a lot of sense.
  4. Eloy and Cease was the proper return for sale the sale/moncada trade was the appropriate return for Quintana
  5. From Rosenthal in The Athletic ” Which brings us to the cases of Bryce Harper and Manny Machado, the two leading free agents in this year’s market, and the latest examples of why the game’s current economic system is outdated and flawed. Entering the third month of free agency, neither player appears close to signing, though as always, talks can accelerate with one text or phone call. In fact, Machado’s agent, Dan Lozano, is barely engaging clubs at the moment, seemingly taking his time and waiting for a team to jump, according to team executives involved in the negotiations.”
  6. Wait, what? It’s sadistic because grown men are frustrated and want to know where these men will work in the spring? Chill out, they can take however long they want to take. They’re trying to make a huge life decision and maximize their financial windfall (and who can blame them!)
  7. Passan saying we’re the best fit for A.J. Pollock. Thoughts?
  8. I’m an optimist but a realist. Is there any evidence or rumors that suggest he’s signing with the Sox? My baseline is that he goes to NYY. If I happen to be wrong I’ll be pleasantly surprised. If I’m right I won’t be upset.
  9. I still don’t understand why we didn’t proactively sign Brantley as a hedge against missing on both.
  10. Look the Sox can’t make a guy come here. As long as they gave it a strong run, what else can you do? Move on...
  11. I don’t blame people for wanting to play in NY. I grew up in Chicago and work in NYC, and I can’t deny that it would be awesome to play there.
  12. This is a lost opportunity for the Sox IMO. We should’ve given him 4y 55mil
  13. It’s possible that the Sox being cheap is an incorrect narrative being planted by the agents to drive up the price
  14. IMO none of us have any clue what’s going on (maybe Harper doesn’t even know yet!).Gut says we’ll be used by Boras again. I hope I’m wrong.
  15. The same people that care about team payrolls care about Vegas casinos winning/losing money, and network TV ratings. It’ll always be a mystery.
  16. Moncada has obviously lost a ton of trade value but I still wouldn’t trade him straight up for Stanton
  17. Will it not come down to the highest bidder? I’m sure there’s a number that brings Harper here, but how outrageous are Reinsdorf/Hahn willing to get?
  18. assuming (maybe incorrectly) that the Yanks want impact starters and relievers on day 1 versus higher ceiling prospects where you’d have control and upside. Would that be going backwards if they weren’t ready for ‘19? I suppose, just thinking how you maximize the sum of the parts through trades/FAs. i don’t follow this as closely as you guys, so it very well may be a stupid idea!
  19. Even if they can get pitching/other pieces? Not in aggregate but does a team that hit a record number of HRs need a power bat at that price just for half a season? Assume they’d want to spend $ on pitching
  20. Let’s assume the Sox somehow sign Machado. Would there be any chance they would turn around and trade Anderson to the Yankees for pitching/prospects? Could solve the Yanks SS problem without blowing up their budget.
  21. No, you can’t test positive for ADD. You can’t even prove you have it. Doctors can say you likely have it based on a number of symptoms, etc.
  22. Based on Moncada’s social media posts, I would hope the team starts encouraging a healthy diet. He along with Robert eat like crap.
  23. Put it this way: if the child abused was your daughter, I highly doubt you would think that a professional baseball team should draft the kid. Why does that matter? Because sometimes we can detach ourselves from the reality of despicable actions. Putting ourselves in the shoes of the parents of the abused child changes the perspective. No way no how should the Sox pick him. Period. End of story.
