What game are you watching? Buehrle is pitching excellent (2 hits, 0 runs, 6 IP), their defense has been flawless (including a very nice sliding catch by Magglio), Frank has gone deep, Rowand has 2 hits, and they're winning 4-0 in the 6th. The only bad thing they've done so far today is they've left a few runners on base. If that's "pretty bad", I hope they play badly more often.

LOL, after a 1-out walk to Magglio, Paulie had a funny looking swing, but the ball was off the end of his bat and into RF. 1st and 3rd w/ 1 out for El Caballo. OUCH...he just got HBP in the knee, and he's not getting up. That hurts enough on a normal day, but on a cold day like it is in Chicago today, that hurts twice as much. It caught him right on the kneecap. He's now slowly walking towards first base, and it appears he's going to stay in the game. The Tigers are going to the bullpen, as the bases are loaded for Crede with 1 out. He pops up into foul territory, and it's caught by Inge for out #2. It's up to Aaron. UGH...Hawk made me think it was salami time, but it's caught in RF by Higginson to end the inning. Sox had an opp to blow the game open, but they still lead it 4-0 through 5.

MB is on cruise control, and the Sox still lead it 3-0, bottom 5. For the last game and a half, our defense has been very solid. Yesterday, Miguel gunned out another runner and Paulie made a nice 3-6-3 DP, and just now Magglio made a very nice sliding catch on a ball hit into shallow RF. Hmmm...btw, I thought Valentin was going to sit out games vs. righties in favor of Graffy? Well, Graffy is starting today, but in place of D'Angelo instead. Oh well. YEAH, Frank just bombed one out to LF for his 1st HR of the season. YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDD, YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. 4-0 Sox

Aaron with yet another basehit, and he's now 2-2. Great hustle on the play, as he slides safely into 2nd with a double. I LOVE his style of play -- definitely a good influence. Graffy hits a BULLET right at Munson, so Rowand is stranded at 2nd. End 4, Sox lead it 3-0.

I love the way Frank is looking at pitches so far this season. It appears he's seeing the ball exceptionally well, and I think it's just a matter of time before he gets it completely locked in and starts driving the ball into the gaps and over the fences. He just took his 5th walk in as many games, and he's also been HBP 2 times and he's got 3 hits. So doing the math, that's 10 times on base in 5 games -- not too shabby. Magglio hits a little nubber that is fielded by Munson, and he's gotta put it in his pocket. They're loaded for Paulie. Let's see if he can help his confidence by getting a big 2-out RBI. Attaboy Paul....ball up the middle not handled by Shane Halter, and the Sox now lead it 3-0. Lee up, bases still packed. He flies out to moderately deep CF, but they come up with 3 and now lead it 3-0.

Boy, it sure is nice to see our 7-8-9 hitters coming through with some hits. Yesterday they had 5 hits from those 3 spots, and today we've already got 2, as Sandy just doubled home Rowand who had just singled back up the middle. With Paulie, Magglio, and Frank all hitting for a low average, it's nice to have some others coming through to pick up the slack. RBI single by Graffy drives in Sandy....2-0 Good Guys.

they were on wgn the first game of the year weren't they? Yes, you are correct. 0-1 so far on WGN -- hopefully that changes today.

That proves 2 things... 1) Some contracts are ridiculously high and 2) There are too many teams in baseball. When a team's payroll for 25 players is under $20M, there is no point in them even playing -- they have NO chance of competing over a 162 game season, and their fans know that, and will not come out to the park. That means unless you get an owner like Mark Cuban of the NBA's Mavericks to pump MILLIONS of his own money into the payroll, there will NEVER be an improvement. Contract 2 or 3 franchises and get some competition in this great sport!

I'm not going to get too high on Esteban just yet, being that he's pitched a total of about 25-30 innings for us, and about 20 of those were in exhibition games, but... He looked very good today. He seemed to have command of the plate and his pitches, and he pitched inside very well. He gave us a huge game today, and the bullpen did a nice job of coming back from Thursday's (quite frankly) embarassing defeat to the Royals. Now maybe we can get a little winning streak going.
-
Of course he cares. If 25,000 of the people who paid didn't stay for the game or didn't bother showing up at all, that means 25,000 less sodas, beers, nachos, burgers, etc were sold. Games played on days with weather like Friday's are horrible for revenue, regardless of what the paid attendance is.
-
Yes, it was pretty deep. Higginson jumped near the wall and caught it. It wouldn't have been outta there, but it would have hit more than half way up the wall had he not caught it.
-
Valitine? Anyway, we're all being a little hard on Jose IMO. He's the only guy who showed any ability at the plate today, and he wasn't the only one out there f***ing up in the field, so let's not lay blame on individual players -- baseball is a team game. You win as a team, and you lose as a team.
-
Well, while I agree that Crede's defense is one of his best attributes and a big reason he's on the team, he's no sloutch offensively. He showed signs of all-star potential in limited games late last season, and so far this season (sure, 3 games in, but...) he's the only Sox player with a good batting average (I think someone mentioned that he's hitting .444, which I would assume is 4 for 9). But you're right, if he turns into Greg Norton, he may find himself back in AAA, but I don't expect that to happen. He could turn out to be a big piece of the 2003 puzzle IMO.
-
LOL, looks like you saw all the s***ty years and missed the only good one.
-
.900? That's very high -- and considering how infrequently Joe walks (based solely off of last season, so I may be wrong), I don't see that happening. I'll take .800.
-
I'm not going to say "The Sox should win at least 2 out of these 3 games" -- because we all know what happened the last time those words were uttered.
-
Frank was on base 8 times in this 3 game series. If that's sucking, I wish more Sox players would suck. The best player in franchise history is a piece of s***? Interesting.

I haven't been here for the past couple of days because I've just been so frustrated with the way the Sox are playing. I also have not read any of the posts, because it's only going to make me more upset. It's not that we're losing -- it's that we (being Sox players) seem to have NO heart, NO desire, and it just seems like DON'T care that they're losing. Game 1 -- OK, fine, you ran into a pitcher that was throwing well that day, and their bullpen did a pretty good job. 3-0 Loss. Game 2 -- You're in the game late, and your bullpen lets you down. 5-4 Loss Game 3 -- 4 errors, 12 runs allowed WITH 2 OUTS, and your closer faces 6 hitters and retires 0 of them. Blowout Loss, and you're swept to open the season You get beat by 3 pitchers that really should not beat you, and your 3 top pitchers (that are one of the best 1-2-3 combos in the AL, if not all of baseball) go down to a division rival that is expected to be a bottom feeder all season long. If they don't have a better showing this weekend for their home opener, there are going to be some pissed off fans, who are paying their hard-earned money to watch you play, and the Sox BETTER show more desire to win than they have in the last 3 games. Hopefully our #4 and #5 guys (Loaiza and Stewart) can have good outings and give this club a HUGE pickup, and then see what our 1-2-3 can do about getting things back on the right track, because right now (granted, it's only 3 games into the season, but still...) this Sox team doesn't look good at all.

the early days the sox were more prominate on wfld, or what is now wciu..... wgn has always been a scrubbies channel.. and untill the past few years the sox were only on there a small handful of the time.... now they have a ton of games on there...... i know its better for you out of towners to get wgn............ No way...they're only on WGN around 30-35 times. That's pretty much the way it's been for the past few years, if memory serves me correctly. Once a week is about how often they're on.
-
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the 4-6 weeks he'll miss is an ESTIMATE. He's scheduled to have an MRI on Thursday, and obviously much more will be known at that time. I would optimistically (for Yankee fans) say 6 weeks, but it very well could be something that forces him to miss 3-4 months, or even the entire season. It's all speculation at this point, though.
-
For the LAST time, I NEVER said all people are a certain way. I wish everyone would read that and stop bringing up something we were talking about 2 weeks ago.

Sweet! I love Hawk, and DJ's OK, so I'm happy to hear that. It's so cool...normally I only get to see games on WGN and ESPN (how often does that happen? ), and of course when they play the Angels they're on sometimes. Now, I'm gonna get to see almost every game. I looked at the DIRECTV schedule, and the Sox are on all the time. It rules.
-
I just ordered the DIRECTV MLB Extra Innings package, and there are going to be a ton of Sox games carried on FSN (Fox Sports Net). Being that I'm in So Cal, I've never seen a Sox game on FSN, so I'm wondering if the announcers are Hawk and DJ? Thanks in advance for any info!

Yes, we're in Anaheim the 11th-14th, a 4-game series. I believe it's a Monday thru Thursday (since August 9 is METALLICA at the LA Coliseum!!!!), so the best day(s) for me would be Monday and Tuesday, since those are my usual off-days from work. Does Edison International have Dr Pepper? Or are they lame and only have stuff like Pepsi and Sprite?

I'll call a cease fire if all others agree to abide by it. The decision is theirs'.
