Sure, I suppose I can do it. I'll start a new thread for it, though, so everyone will be able to follow it if they want.

You all might be right... But, I think it's unwise to give up on a young hitter who has shown glimpses of greatness. OK, maybe greatness is an overstatement, but he has had stretches where he has hit extremely well, and IMO he has the potential (yes, that's probably the most overused word in sports -- especially baseball) to be a very good ML player. If at the end of this season he is hitting below .275 with fewer than 30 HR and 100 RBI, at that time I'll say "trade him" -- but I don't want to bash the guy and 6 months from now be cheering him on when we're in a pennant race. That would be hypocritical, and I don't want my smelly foot to be in my mouth.

Sabathia IP past 2 years = 391 1/3 Buehrle IP past 2 years = 460 1/3 Hope MB doesn't suffer the same fate as CC.

Exactly right, too. I wanted to like him as a player more than I did but he certainly did not deserve ever to be trashed. I never understood people who got on his case. He gave us some great moments and he deserves our appreciation. That said, I think Jiminez will develop into a solid player and I do not mind that D'Angelo is playing in place of Durham. I know what it is like to be friends with a player who gets traded. When Earl Averill, Jr. was traded away by the Sox, and moved away, he took with him his son and my childhood best friend. EA III. And being an off season trade I never even got a chance to say goodbye. Your best friend moved away without saying goodbye?

Anyone who critcizes Jose should really STFU, because he truly is one of the biggest parts of the 2003 puzzle. He's a very good leader, and he could very possibly hit 30 HR and drive in 80-90 runs from the #2 hole. That is not easy to do. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...s_cws&fext=.jsp

The Indians played in snow on opening day in Baltimore, and the Sox have played in bad weather all season long. So, I don't have a problem at all with them waiting until Tuesday to play. The better the weather is, the better our offense will be, so I have no qualms about it.

LMAO! The gloves...have come off.

From what I've seen so far from Miguel, I say the Sox should just get rid of Josh and open up that other roster spot for either another pitcher (Danny when he's healthy?) or another position player (Aaron Miles?). Miguel's throwing arm alone makes him worthy of being on a major league team. He's got a f***ing cannon, and we all know he can hit -- it just might take a while for it to come around at the ML level. The only way he will get used to ML pitching is to face it on a regular basis, so I say keep him up (as long as he's throwing out runners and handling the staff well) regardless of his offensive statistics. Besides, with the guys that we have in our lineup, it's not like we rely on our #9 hitter for offense anyway.

Hmmm...in game 1 or 2 of the Detroit series, Frank took an outside pitch, barely got the bat on it, and nearly hit it over the RF fence in 30 degree weather. I don't know how you can say his power has diminished. And also, we don't need Frank to hit 50. We need Frank to do what he does best -- get on base (13 times in 6 games so far this year), hit the ball in the gaps, and drive in runs. If he can do those things, the Sox will put some very crooked numbers up in '03.

Yes. Also, there are a few others that work for them, and it's not widely known. For example... Mike Hunt is in charge of nutrition. Ben Dover is their fitness adviser. And most importantly, Dick Trickle (race car driver) is their motivation counselor.

Well, while fights are always exciting to watch, that's the last thing the Sox would need right now. We need to focus on getting our offense clicking (Sat and Sun is a good start), and that would be hard to do with half of the team suspended. Wouldn't be worth it, especially just 1 week into the season.

Contact Jerry Manuel. I'm sure he'd be willing to foot the bill for you and get you to the games, because if the Sox don't have a successful year, he may find himself unemployed.

When I first read this, I thought "damn, that's going to F up our rotation now", but then I realized that Tuesday was scheduled to be an off-day, so it will keep everyone on schedule. Hopefully the snow will be gone by Tues.

The Sox have lost the last 8 games you've attended? You are not allowed to go to any games this season. And for the record, the Sox are 1-1 (with a 1 game winning streak) when I've been at the game.

Well, C-Lee will have to wait until Monday, because I read that he's going to be sitting out Sunday's game vs. Detroit. Paul Konerko is also going to get an off-day Sunday, and the article said that Brian Daubach will get a start. I would guess that the lineup would look something like this... Rios, Rowand, Ordonez in the OF Crede, Valentin, Jimenez, Frank in the IF Olivo and Stewart as the battery and probably Daubach at DH That said, my prediction for a big game Sunday is Magglio. He's overdue

Players owe it to their employer, their fans, and most importantly THEMSELVES to give it 100% on every play. If that means laying out in an attempt to catch a line drive or deep flyball, he needs to do it. Why play and give it any less than a full-on honest effort? Seems pointless to me. And your statement about Frank "trying to prove defensive grit" is silly. When Ichiro hit that ball, all Frank was trying to do was make the play and help his team win. He probably didn't think about it, it was just his natural instinct (a good instinct, mind you) -- go for a ball that is close. You razzed him for not diving in the 2000 ALDS, yet you criticize him for doing it in 2001? Seems contradictory to me. And IMO it doesn't matter whether it's a ST game or a WS game -- you go all out regardless. As far as 5-tool players go, I agree that superstars that are primarily offensive-minded should not be encouraged to be something that they are not (such as a fast runner or a great fielder). The only players that should be encouraged to be 5-tool players are those that have the talent to do so. Do you think guys like Willie Mays, Ty Cobb, or Ted Williams ever looked in the mirror and said "Ya know, I didn't go all out for that gapper yesterday, but at least I've got my health!"? Hell no, they wanted to win, and would have done anything and everything in their power to make that happen. Players of today should take the same approach, and those who don't should be ashamed of themselves.

Winning is what sells tickets, regardless if it's a 1-0 win or a 15-14 win. When fans come to the ballpark, they want to see their team win. Sure, some offense is nice, but everything is secondary to the W.
-
Doesn't matter. Confidence is confidence, and beating any team 7-0 is going to help everyone's frame of mind.

Buehrle pitches a very nice 8 innings, giving up 0 runs and 3 hits. Thomas, Valentin, and Alomar all go deep. Our defense makes no errors and no mistakes. 13 hits in weather as cold as it was today is very nice, and an overall good game for the Sox. We're now 2-3 on the year, and tomorrow we'll look to reach .500.

Jose hits one out to CF for his 3rd HR of the season and his 2nd 3-hit game of the season. Sox lead it 7-0 after 8.

No f***ing kidding! Baseball is a UNIQUE game in that you can esily compare Sandy Koufax or Willie Mays to Pedro and Griffey unlike basketball, hockey, tennis, etc where the game progresses almost exponentially with each decade. Don't f*** it up by having 30 guys hit 40 hommers each year. Besdies, like I said, a triple or a diving vatch at the track INSTEAD of a homer is more exciting for the fans IMO. (Tell that to Reds fans though who just lost Griffey for 2 months) Griffey's injured again? Shocking.

Yeah, but in the offensive era with a capital O began around '96 and Coors field/McGwire hitting 52. Maddux hasn't been as dominating pitchingin a pitcher's park after that as Johnson (American Legue, Seattle Park) or Pedro (Green Monster, American League). Your're right, Maddox is probably third best in the recent years. Do you agree with the ugly trend of bringing fences closer and closer? Yep, it's a mistake to bring in the fences. Not only does it make for 4 hour 9 inning games (which we all will agree is bad for the sport), but it also takes away from the numbers players in the past put up. Sure, you're going to have more HR and stuff just because players today are much bigger than they were as recently as the 1980's. But, to move the fences in with the diluted pitching is just wrong. I don't think there should be uniform dimensions for ballparks because that would take away from the uniqueness of them. But, I think there should be minimum dimensions. And your numbers sound like good minimums to have. Most of all, though, there are just too many mediocre pitchers in the league due to the fact that there are too many teams. I say contract 1 or 2 teams from each league. That would help DRAMATICALLY IMO.

Hawk has made the same mistake 2 times so far today. He said that Frank has now been on base 11 times this season following his 6th inning walk, but it's actually 12. He's walked 6 times, been HBP 2 times, and has 4 hits. Unless I'm using fuzzy math (LOL), that's 12.
-
Don't forget Maddux. His ERA is just as good as the 2 you mentioned.

KABOOM!!! Sandy hits a lead-off bomb to LF to put the Sox up 5-0. He's 2 for 3 on the day with 2 RBI. Graffy singles to RF for his 2nd hit of the day. Valentin doubles down the LF line, Graffy motors around to score, and it's now 6-0. Gee, I wish the Sox would play this badly more often Frank BATTLES from an 0-2 count to draw yet another base on balls, and Magglio comes up with 2 on and 0 out. 6-4-3 for Mags, and with 2 outs that brings up Paulie. He grounds out, but the Sox add 2 and lead it 6-0.
