Lots of complaining...I agree.

Let's see, who was a big part of our 2000 team? Frank Thomas -- the REAL MVP that year -- OUT for all but 21 games in '01 Jim Parque -- gave us in the low teens in wins -- OUT for '01 Cal Eldred -- gave us 10 wins -- not on the team in '01 (as I recall) David Wells -- very good pitcher normally. Injured for us -- BUST Kelly Wunsch -- injured -- OUT for '01 And there was much more that I can't remember right now. Sure, it's an excuse -- but you're going to tell me that it's not a legitimate excuse? Frank Thomas -- still not 100% following torn tricep -- bad '02 Todd Ritchie -- good at first, then injured -- BUST Clubhouse -- issues within, BAD for team chemistry (what chemistry?) Foulke/Osuna/Marte -- closer by committee SUCKS Jose Valentin -- moving from position to position -- BAD for his stats Paul Konerko -- horrible after the AS break So they underachieved in 2002. How can KW control that? And like I said, if you're going to classify BC as a "bust", I completely disagree. You are probably alone in that sentiment.

I'm watching the early edition of SC, and they're going to be having a segment on Aaron Rowand later in the hour. Just an FYI.

I hate to compare players on the same team, but just take a look at Mark Buehrle vs. Jon Garland. Mark hasn't had his A game 2 out of his 3 starts, and he's still got an ERA of 1.23 and he's got a 2-1 record. He's PITCHED his way to the 7th inning 2 times, and the other game he had his good stuff and went 8. Garland, on the other hand (and for that matter, most other pitchers on our staff), must have his A game to give the team a chance to win. It comes down to confidence I think. Mark just has the poise and demeanor of a 10 year veteran. Unfortunately, confidence cannot be bought -- it has to be learned, and Garland just needs to start trusting his stuff and I think many wins will follow.

People aren't going to go watch a crappy team to see Rocker. He's not quite the train wreck that some others in sports are (see, Mike Tyson). The only hope the D'Rays have is that Rocker will be great until the trading deadline, and then hopefully get a solid prospect for him, because Rocker could make a HUGE difference on a team that needs a closer and/or left-handed set-up man.

Well, the Marte trade hasn't been a bust, so I'm gonna guess you're calling the Colon trade a failure. If that's the case, we disagree completely. And we've had the players to win the crappy AL Central each of the past 2 seasons, but underachieving and injuries hindered our chances. If underachieving and injuries are KW's fault, then I guess he'll never win with some of you people.

Well, as of now, the Lakers and Wolves are tied for 5th in the West, and they're both just 1/2 game behind 4th place Portland. The Lakers play Portland on Sunday in LA, so LA could be in 4th by the end of the weekend. Looks like they're either going to play Portland or the Wolves at this point. The only question is who will have homecourt.

I disagree with that completely. Bases loaded and 1 out and giving up 1 run is very acceptable -- particularly in the situation the Sox were in (up by 5 or so runs). Now, bases loaded and 2 out, you should escape unscaved most of the time. I was just happy that Marte averted the big inning and got out of it with us still with a big lead. I can very much live with what he did in that situation.

You guys rip him to shreds when a deal goes bad....heaven forbid we compliment him on a great trade

Well, the Jail Blazers actually have a ton of talent on their team. From 1-12, they're possibly the most talented team in the NBA. The D'Rays, on the other hand, have little talent. But, since the Blazers are chokers in the clutch, both teams suck equally. I hope the Lakers can stay in the 5th spot (or move up to #4) so they can play Portland in the first round again -- because it's hilarious watching the Blazers implode.

Yes...3-time defending WORLD Champs -- golly they stink. See you in the playoffs.

Seems like I've heard that abou you. A likely story.

I'm pretty new here, and this is obviously my first baseball season that I'll be spending posting messages and sharing thoughts/ideas with some pretty damned knowledgeable fellow Sox fans. However, through the first week and a half of the season, I think we've fired JM 495 times, traded Carlos Lee just as many, released Tom Gordon, sent Rick White down to the minors, and several other things have been said about various players. Guys...the baseball season goes from late-March until early-October. 162 games, spanning more than 6 months, with 600 or so AB's for the everyday players, 150-200 IP for each starter, and anywhere from 40-90 IP for the relievers. So far, we've reached about 1/20 of that, and some of you freak out at every loss. We're going to lose. We're going to lose a lot more than we want to. Even in a very good season, we're going to lose 60 times. Even in an MVP season, a player is going to go cold for a 2 or 3 week period, and even the best pitchers are going to have a few bad starts. It's nothing to get overly worried about. It seems like most of us are losing some perspective on what 1 game means. Sure, we want them to win em all, but we can't get too high when they do -- and conversely, we can't get too low when they don't. I've seen 8 of the first 9 games, and that has never happened before since I live out in CA. I feel myself falling into that mindset where if the Sox lose, it ruins my day for a few hours. That is not healthy. I'm sure I'm not the only one who dwells on each loss, and I really think it should cease. At this rate, I'll die of a heart attack by the AS break! Anyway, just thought I'd try to put things in perspective a bit. It's nothing that you guys don't already know, but it sometimes get lose in the shuffle and in the heat of the battle. Detroit. PS -- Kobe rules.

That is unbelievable and disgraceful.
-
Unreal. Tying run on deck.
-
Is Manuel out there pitching? Why would he be crucified when it's the players that aren't getting the job done?
-
Gordon looked pissed. He didn't want to leave the game. Suddenly, we're 1 swing away from having ourselves a competitive game.
-
Gordon in. This is a perfect situation for him IMO. No pressure, and hopefully he can have a solid outing and help him get on a roll for the close games against better teams. He walks the lead-off hitter, though -- not a good omen.
-
Sandy is just awesome. RBI double. He's 3-3 today with a walk and 2 RBI, and 6-7 in this series.
-
Um...Mark hasn't thrown that many pitches, and he's mowing the Indians down. Why not leave him in? It's not like he doesn't go 7 almost everytime out anyway. I wish people would stop trying to come up with things to criticize JM about.
-
I thought that ball by Paulie was gone. In June it would be, for sure. I don't know what we're going to do with Frank you guys. He sucks! Ignore the fact that he's reached base every game so far and has an OBP of nearly .500 because those are just numbers. I think we should trade him for a bag of incense and 5 range balls from the local CC
-
After getting squeezed on a 1-2 backdoor breaking ball, Mark throws the same pitch and gets the call to end the inning. He froze Omar earlier in the inning, and looked very nice in doing so. End 6, Sox up 6-1
-
Well, 18 2/3 consec scoreless innings is nothing to sneeze at. Nice play by Crede, but nice hustle by Ellis to beat the force play.
-
God damn...the Indians (primarily Omar) turned that DP fast! Grounder kinda in the hole, Omar fields it, throws to 2nd for 1, and onto 1st and they get D'Angelo by 3 steps. We're still up 6-0 though.
-
rowand probably would have caught that double by spencer though..rios really played that one bad..but buehrle picked him up Aaron would have either caught it...or died trying.
