Hypocrite How so?
-
Anyone who took pleasure in watching Sammy Sosa get hit in the HEAD should seek professional help soon, because there is clearly something very wrong with you. Baseball is a GAME. You may not like someone because of "showboating", and you have every right as a fan to do so. But to support and encourage throwing at a man's head (a man who is probably a father -- I don't know anything about his personal life) is just wrong. If you want to stop someone from showboating, hit them in the knee or arm. You NEVER throw at someone's head (unless it's a pitcher up to bat and he threw at one of your teammates' heads -- otherwise, you DON'T do it). And anyone who purposely throws at a player's head should be thrown in jail and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

I wasn't fighting. I was simply stating my opinion.
-
I agree. Personal attacks are pointless on a baseball message board. Comments from me will cease when certain people on here do the same.
-
Well, now that I have a more clear picture of what you bring to the table (you may know something about baseball, but your psychological issues override that knowledge), I will read your posts merely for comedic purposes, and will pay no mind to any of your personal attacks, as you are clearly doing them to try and relieve some of the pain you feel inside. Sad but true.

Sadness. What the hell were you thinking? Yes clujer.. I am very sad for you. And by the way, stop sending me PM's. I don't have time for your whining. I sent you 1 PM, and that was days ago. And stop your lies -- I wasn't whining. I simply inquired as to why you're such a b****. If that's whining, then so be it. And after hearing your claims of once dating Joey Belle, the pieces of the puzzle are falling into place. SEVERE issues, just as I suspected. You called me a b****..? Liar. Now tell the truth about what you really said.. or I can post it for all to see. Since I'm sure you would edit what I said before posting it, but here's a paraphrasing of what I PM'ed you....... "Your name-calling and insults are getting tired -- what's your point?" Gee, please don't post my PM for everyone to read -- it'll be embarassing

5 games in a row with a HR is extremely impressive. Way to go Carlos!

As a Sox fan, it's self-defeating to not attend games just to spite Jerry Reinsdorf. It's only going to hurt the team in the long run. I don't understand that hateful behavior. If you like a team and want them to improve, SUPPORT THEM! Otherwise, just sit back and watch them waste an opportunity to succeed.

I voted for Rocky, as I feel it's one of the best movies ever, let alone sports movies. Stallone wrote an incredible script, and did an even better job of portraying "The Itallian Stallion". A subperb supporting cast of Talia Shire (Adrian), Burt Young (Paulie), Burgess Merideth (Mickey), and Carl Weathers (Apollo Creed) only made this movie all the more great. 4 stars, and like I said, one of the best movies ever made. PS -- anyone who liked Rocky and hasn't seen it on DVD should either rent it or buy it and watch the movie with the commentary on. The number of lines/scenes in the movie that weren't in the script are amazing. Sometimes having a $1M budget turns out to be a good thing.

Sox pitchers have nothing to do with who they've played so far. You can't deny that they've gone out and done their job 90% of the time so far this season. Can't ask for anything more.

Well, in that case--and I pray to God it doesn't come to fruitition--it's not completely unrealistic for us to end up losing both Colon and Maggs after 2003, not to mention Hurt (why need him if half of the team is gone?). One of Lee/Konerko would have to go and Burhle hightails it out of here the first chance he gets. Did I mention Sox not picking up Valentin's and Loaiza's option? Alomar is out...Gordon...Koch... How about a 2005 team with 35 million payro being be led by Jimenez, Harris, Borchard, Dabauch/Lee, Valenzula, Olivo, Crede, Garland, Wright, Cotts, Burhle, Almonte, Rauch and Diaz? Would you like our chances then? Don't get me wrong, 1999 team was fun if anything else, but we still... Not too laugh-worthy is it? The thing is, we are 1-2 missed playoff appearances away from a very sad ending, especially if Cubs come through with a magical year, which is not that improbable since they regularly shell out 80+ million on their staff. Thanks for depressing me. And it's only upsetting because it's conceivable.

Graffy too . Speaking of Graffy, he f***in' rizobbed Laker of a solid single in today's (Saturday) game. Don't know how it looked on TV, but that was an awesome catch. You could hear Laker scream, "God damnit" from where I was sitting down the first base line That was an AWESOME catch. I didn't know TG had that in his defensive vocabulary. And yeah, it was in the mid innings, maybe the 6th?

That's because Sox fans are clearly superior to every other fan in the world and know too much about baseball to attend games, silly. Forgive me for saying this, but I would rather Sox become a tourist whore of an organization ala Cubs with stupid fans and currpt columnist at their disposal...than to see us squander a chance after chance at being a real, bonafied dynasty I've been blasted MANY times way back in '98 for saying that our attendance sucks and it will hurt the team sooner than they might think. With Belle and Ventura gone, and in spite of the 2000 magical year, things have gotten worse. People ripped me the other day when we drew 9,882 against the Royals and I said that Sox fans in Chicago should be ashamed. They defended the sad figure and said "it was horrible weather", "it was a week night", etc. Maybe I was a bit harsh, I'll admit, but.... What's the excuse now? There is none, and it's disgusting IMHO. The fans have to decide if they want us to spend more money or not. If they do, they have to go to games. If they don't go to games, they can't complain when our payroll remains the same every season, because how do you think owners get the money to increase payroll? ATTENDANCE REVENUE, DUH!
-
I can GUARANTEE you the Cubs will not make the ALCS anytime soon.

After the catastrophe of last 2 season, I would agree with you. But, in retrospect, it didn't need to happen this way- Twins and Tribe were so much weaker than we made them look whether because of injuries, poor front office decisions or just the good ol' underachieving...This season is a play-off must, don't make any mistake about it for many different reasons. Anything below 95 wins would be uncivilized. In a perfect world, Sox would have a state of the art park by the lake. Then we wouldn't have to worry about "begging" for attendance like they have been doing for almost 10 years. JS will spend on the (unqualified) winner, I think we know that. And Sox are still a big market team, let's not forget. I believe Chicago is the #3 market in the US (behind NY and Los Angeles). And I don't understand today's attendance. Probably the best weather we've had so far for a home game, on a Saturday, and we draw under 20,000? WTF is going on? Maybe it's because of the holiday weekend, I don't know -- but I would think that would HELP the attendance, if anything. I don't know what Sox fans are waiting for. If we only draw 40,000 when the Cubs, Twins, and Yankees come to town, don't look for payroll to increase anytime soon, and rightfully so.

Here's the bottom line on this topic... Ray was NOT going to stay with the Sox. He ended up getting $8M per season. The Sox spent that money on Bartolo Colon. What did the Sox need more going into the '03 season -- a #1 type pitcher or a lead-off man? I'll go with the former. We're paying D'Angelo about $300k, and so far he's playing AMAZINGLY well. Will he keep this pace up? Highly unlikely. But will he give us solid numbers and give our big guns a chance to drive in a lot of runs? I'd have to say yes. So basically we've got BC and D'Angelo for the same money as Ray is making this season -- which would you prefer?
-
We've got the talent to make the playoffs this season, and if our pitching holds up, there's no reason why we couldn't make some noise when we get there. That will give us more revenue, and we could put that towards the '04 payroll, and hopefully do the same in '04 and help '05's payroll. It has to start somewhere, and '03 would be a nice place. Chances are, our attendance will ONLY reach the 3 million range if we advance deep into the post-season this year, and '04's attendance will reap the benefits of it.

I guess there will always be have's and have-not's in big sports (and in life)...but the gap is what's frightening. 160 Million payroll? Are you kidding? I'd rather see the game decided by GM and team scouts' skills and manager's decisions than pocketbook, but then again I am just a silly purist/romantic. Yep. I was listening to a sports talk show this morning while at work, and they were creaming over how good the Yankees were playing "despite having $50M in payroll out of action due to injury". They still have OVER $100M in payroll IN the lineup! Of course they're going to be good, they have a f***ing fantasy team. However, all we can hope is that they falter again in the playoffs. Baseball needs to do something about teams like the Yankees and Mets, because the luxury tax just isn't doing it.

How else do you account for the fact that he went from steal 43 bases in 00-01 down to like 9 last year? He is going to get real bulky in the next few years, though not Sosa-big because steroids are on their way out of the league. Canseco is indded a freak of nature and the mentality of the game changed so much, with more people wanting to be like Edgar Martinez than Aaron Rowand. Who's getting bulky, Magglio? He doesn't look much different to me than he did when he came into the league.
-
I am 6'2", 190 and, trust me, you don't get great jumps/slides when you are that tall unless you are professional athlete with flawless fundamentals and technique and real instincts. I can;t imagine how Derryk Lee is doing it. Hurt has never stolen so many bases in a YEAR.' They say Bo Jackson was crazy fast, too and he was a bulky type...anyone remember him play? Bo Jackson was the most physically gifted athlete I've ever seen. I'm only 22, but I've seen lots of people play. He's second to NONE. Truly one of the greats.

Maybe it was like the A's fans told us..... he might just suck. I was at the game today and his fastball has absolutely no break at all to it and barely reached 90 MPH once I think. Not to mention, whoever it was who hit the HR off of him didn't get a cheapie. That was a goddamn bomb. A's fans said he "sucked" because he got bombed in the playoffs. Sour grapes. Fact is, if you look at the numbers, he's one of the best closers in baseball. Problem is that since he's pretty much a pure power pitcher, he's suseptable to the big inning, which has happened to him 2 times in this young season. He's an extremely competitive person though, and I look for him to right the ship and get his numbers back in the territory he's familiar with. I just hope he's not injured.
-
That's an unfortunate way to think. If Jose Canseco can steal 40 bases while hitting 40 HR (back in 1988 when it actually meant something), then there's no reason why Magglio can't swipe 2 or 3 bases a month. That would give him around 20 for the season. PS -- I'm not comparing Canseco and Magglio, per say, because I think that Magglio has far more overall talent than Jose had. Jose was a much more physically gifted athlete IMO, but Magglio is a more well-rounded baseball player. Jose was just a freak of nature (roids or not, he was impressive back in the late 80's, and he was one of the biggest names in the sport).
