  1. Unfortunately, at this point the damage has been done. US Cellular has -- rightly or wrongly so (wrongly IMO) -- gotten the image of being an unsafe place to play, and it really doesn't matter what team that loser was a fan of. So while it's nice that one of our own is not to blame for Tuesday's chaos, it really doesn't matter, as the public has already made up their mind.
  2. No excuse. I regularly travel 205 miles one way for a game (split season ticket holder). In 2000 after the brawl I also traveled to Detroit to support my team. Mathew has come from Canada. HSC and I have a friend nicknamed NSC who flies in from Conneticutt - he has season tickets. If you wanted to be there, you'd get there. So don't b**** out others unless you go yourself. If you had said, "too bad the crowd was small" maybe everyone would have let it go. But you b****ed people out and that was what caught everyone's attention. OK dude, I'm gonna spend 3 hours in a plane or 2 days in a car, along with hundreds of dollars, to see an April baseball game. Get serious. And I spoke NOTHING of non-Chicago residents, nor did I mention anybody specifically. All I said was that Sox in Chicago should be ashamed for the game drawing as poorly as it did on Wednesday, and they should be. If you disagree, cool.
  3. (FYI, 2002 was last season. We're in 2003 at the moment) Glad to see I'm not the only one making silly mistakes.
  4. Hey, I agree with you. Just the other day I was saying that the Sox need to start running more, and Carlos is one of the guys that I mentioned by name. The 3-run HR's aren't coming with the cold air, so we need to manufacture some runs until the ball starts to carry some more.
  5. It's tough to steal 15 when you're hitting .174 and have an OBP of .255.
  6. Oxnard, CA to Chicago, IL is quite a long ways to go for a non-playoff game. I have a valid excuse. And yes, I did confuse Serbia with Siberia. Funny how the brain fart frequency goes up after being up all night working.
  7. I'm finished arguing with Steff about this since it's a stupid argument, but 9,882 fans is not acceptable to me, as it will take a 40,000 game to make up for it. 40,000 games aren't very common for the Sox, either.
  8. People complained that it was cold for Wednesday's game, and that's why nobody showed up....I said "It's not exactly Serbia" because 50 degrees is nothing. In Serbia, -50 is as common as 50. I think you mean Siberia, not Serbia. LOL. You're right. Siberia. Working the graveyard shift has its disadvantages.
  9. Show me where I said "ALL Sox fans".
  10. People complained that it was cold for Wednesday's game, and that's why nobody showed up....I said "It's not exactly Serbia" because 50 degrees is nothing. In Serbia, -50 is as common as 50.
  11. All that from being out in 50 degree weather? And they say us Californians can't handle the "cold".
  12. :fyou And when I get over the earache, sore throat, 102 fever, and runny nose I'll say more. Asshole. Obviously, illness is a legitimate excuse. I thought that went without saying, but apparently not. Saying "it's too cold" is what will keep the Sox payroll the same for 2004 as it is in 2003 -- and Sox fans will have only themselves to blame for it.
  13. You would have spent AT LEAST $30 to go to the game (just for parking and the cheapest seat in the house) for just yourself on a week night, with most likely having work the next day? On top of the low 40's temps and a threat of rain??? I completely understand why the crowd was sparse. I took some time to review some of last night's games and their attendance figures (the home team is listed first) Sox vs. Royals......temp 50, attendance 9,882 Boston vs. Tampa Bay.......temp 47, attendance 26,688 Cleveland vs. Baltimore......temp 50, attendance 15,674 You're telling me that the Sox (who were facing a divison rival) can't outdraw a hapless Indian team or a Red Sox team playing the worst team in baseball? In the words of Artie Lang, "Disgraciad".
  14. oh come on, on a cold night, much colder than Tuesday, after all the security problems the night before? Of course people stayed away last night. What security problems? Sure people ran onto the field and it was pretty chaotic, but there weren't guys wearing sheets on their heads blowing themselves up in the stands -- and nothing big even happened. The idiot grabbed the umpire like he wanted to dry hump him, and then the Royals beat his ass. If anything, I would think that Tuesday's fiasco would actually attract more fans due to the "let's see if anything happens tonight" syndrome. I stand by what I said -- sub-10,000 should NEVER happen unless it's weather like they had for the home opener vs. Detroit. 50 degrees is not exactly Serbia.
  15. He ran over Mike McFarlane (sp?) once. But he normally doesn't do that. I think if a situation arises this season, we'll see the catcher fly like a raggity Andy doll.
  16. Under 10,000 fans attending a game vs. a division rival (I'd say KC now qualifies as a legitimate rival) is an absolute disgrace. Sox fans in Chicago should be ashamed.
  17. I'd say that between McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds, Bonds would be the one I think is least likely to be using/having used the juice.
  18. Frank's attitude so far has been A+++++, and like someone mentioned before, when he sets out to accomplish something, he will do so. He wants to solidify his spot in the HOF, and the Sox and all of us will reap the benefits. AL pitchers
  19. You haven't picked up on my affection for Frank? You need to pay better attention to my posts. He's definitely my favorite athlete, and it goes without saying that he's my favorite Sox player.
  20. I never said it was disrespectful to compare Prior to Clemens and Johnson -- in fact, I never mentioned Johnson, I mentioned Ryan -- I said is was completely absurd and that Prior is a moron for doing so.. And WE aren't proclaiming Stewart anything. The Sox organization has stated that he is very Buehrle-esque. Perhaps you are the one who needs to get their facts straight.
  21. I'll admit I haven't seen nearly as much of Prior as I have of Buehrle, but I would take Buehrle over Prior in Game 7 of the WS. Buehrle has the poise and swagger that most veterans would kill for, and he's only in his 3rd full season. He's not nearly the strikeout guy that Prior is, but in the overall picture of being a complete pitcher, I would take Buehrle. And also, you can't say "forget the future" because Mark proved in 2002 that 2001 was not a fluke. Prior has yet to conquer the sophomore jinx. Until he does, IMO there's no discussion. Notice, I'm staying consistent with my "wait til he's been in the majors 2 full years" theory. I believe strongly in it.
  22. I know you didn't say Jimenez didn't belong....but there are some here who feel that way. I think that sentiment is ridiculous at this time. And maybe you haven't seen Aaron's statistics from last season. He had nearly 550 plate appearances, and had only 40 walks. That is my main basis for saying he doesn't belong on a contending team in the majors -- but the 0 in 18 AB so far in '03 just furthers my feelings on him. Like Carlos Lee proved last season, it's possible to learn how to take a walk, but until he does so, we won't be seeing him on the Sox 25-man roster -- and if we do, we'll be in trouble IMO.
  23. Highlight of 2000... 7-game road trip. 4 in Cleveland (when they were the HEAVY favorites to win the division) and 3 in NY (Yankees at the time were the defending WS Champions). EVERY media person was just chomping at the bit to see the Sox fall flat on their face and implode against the "great" Indians and Yankees, and the Sox sweep BOTH series. Definitely an awesome time to be a Sox fan! Also, when June rolls around, it will be very warm in Chicago, and the bats of the Sox will heat up. Look for Frank and Magglio to combine for 30 or so HR, and expect around 10 for Paul and Carlos. It will be good times indeed.
  24. He "should" be on the ML team, yet he can't find any PT at the AAA level? There's something wrong with that if you ask me. The bottom line is that it's 18 AB's and 0 walks. Even if you only have 1 AB every 10 days, you ought to be able to work at least 1 walk in 18 attempts. I think the person who should be given the benefit of the doubt is the guy who we're going to depend on to get on base for guys like Frank, Magglio, Paul, and Carlos -- D'Angelo Jimenez. He's done a solid job for the Sox since we started playing him at 2B, and yet people still think he's not worthy of being here. What kind of logic is that?
  25. You are correct, sir. Frank said that he's going to call Walt in the next day or 2 and talk to him about his mechanics, because he said that he's being pitched inside and it's throwing off what he's trying to do up there. I don't understand that really, since they've been pitching him inside all the time since 2000, but Frank knows more about it than me, I'm certain. Tuesday's a big game for Frank IMO. He was given the day off today and tomorrow will be an off-day, so he'll have time to collect himself mentally and come out swinging vs. KC.
