Konerko lines out and Lee grounds out, but I liked both (even though they got out). Konerko hit it HARD the other way, and Lee hit it very hard down to 3rd. Top 2, Sox up 1-0

Yes, sucked in is right. If you wish to choose to hang out with people who have no regard for law and order, be my guest. It's not for me. And for the 108935732948th time, there ARE exceptions to every rule. Why do I have to point that out every 2 seconds? Get a clue. Also, if I'm so ignorant, why do you continue to read my posts?

Atta boy Frank. 1-0 Sox

That hurts like hell. I fouled 3 off my foot in a 10 minute period one time in the batting cages, and I was done. Very painful if you get it on top of the foot. Tons of little bones in there that can go snap, crackle, pop.

Well in the NFL there was the placekicker on the Cardinals (the brother of Martin Grammatica) who f***ed up his leg while celebrating after kicking a field goal.

LMAO!!! NO! I'm calling the Angels Tinkerbell (ya know, the whole Disney thing).

rarely strike out????? which sox team have you been watching this month??????? lol .. carlos alone has 16, thomas has 11, maggs has 11.... we have like around 88 or so on the team as a whole.... thats alot.......im too lazy to see who has the most but im sure you can look it up.. were most likely around the top 5 or so...........our pen has problems and our defense sucks...for the most part.......our offense is starting to show signs of life but im not all that happy with everyone thinking they have to swing for the fences instead of going small ball once in a while............just mho though......... Heh, you're very wrong (about the strikeouts at least). 88 times is correct. Only the Cardinals and Orioles (wtf?) have less that us. And if you want to go on a per-game basis, we're actually #2 in the league behind only the Orioles. And if Loaiza can repeat his performance from his last game, we could be #1. And shockingly, we're in the middle of the field in terms of LOB too (I guess it just seems like we're leaving 10 guys on base a game ), and we're 10th in baseball in OBP. Overall, not a horrible start, but we need to get our big guns going soon (I'm getting sick of saying that!). Also, we've made 12 errors (lower half of baseball, and 1 more than the Yankees), we're in the upper half of DP's turned, and opponents are only 10 of 20 in stealing bases. LOL, the Phillies have allowed 48 SB in only 52 tries!! Sox pitchers are 7th best in terms of hits allowed, 13th in OBP against, 7th best ERA (3rd in the AL), and 7th in opponents' batting average against. Those numbers aren't too bad considering we've had our starters and bullpen guys have some REALLY bad games (Koch has had 2 horrible games, and Buehrle and Garland got rocked on Sunday/Monday), and our offense has really struggled so far (Frank and Konerko have yet to get hot). Things could be better, but they could definitely be worse.

Hopefully it'll be another Sox 15-1 slaughter. Tinkerbell

Well, a message board is a bit different due to the anonymity of such a venue. All I really know about you people (so far at least, since I've never met any of you face-to-face) is what you have to say about Sox basball, and not much more than that. Now, when and if I meet any of you or if I were to find out that any of you were criminals, my fraterinization time with you would cease to exist. Criminals are, for the most part, bad people, and I personally wouldn't want to spend any of my time with them because of that.

Not everyone wanted Carlos to get traded. And so far, he's had 3 bad starts, and a couple more and he needs to be taken out of the rotation. If we can send him down to AAA, we should do that, or if we can't due to him being out of options, send him to the bullpen and let him figure it out. He's been in the league long enough to where he should be able to get over the team blowing a game for him. If not, maybe he doesn't belong in the majors. And 11-8 is pretty bad when you consider who we've played. The Tigers, Indians, and Royals. We lost 4 against the Royals, 3 against the Indians, and 1 against the Tigers. 2 of those Royals games we blew, and we shouldn't have lost to the Tigers. We should be 14-5, but there's no point in looking in the past. We need to win this series @ Baltimore, and it starts today with Esteban going for his 4th win. Go Sox!

Spending time with family members is a bit different, as you cannot choose who is your family. Friends, on the other hand, are hand-chosen, and IMO anyone with morals would not hang out with a known criminal (particularly someone who does drugs -- there's nothing more self-destructive). coming from a guy with 420 at the end of his name? Having 420 at the end of my name means nothing. Don't jump to conclusions.

Sure, he's respected because he's one of the best pitchers of the last 25 years, and it's not only because he's a good pitcher -- it's because he has the balls to pitch inside, and if he hits somebody above the numbers, so be it. That's old school baseball. That is something that is a dying trend in the game. Very few young pitchers today are willing to throw inside on a regular basis, and that's why they end up with ERA's in the 5's, because they throw everything middle-out, instead of middle-in. At the same time that he's respected, there are a lot of people, like Piazza, who would love to beat his ass given the opportunity, and if those guys were pitchers, it's questionable as to whether or not Roger would still bean them. If Roger was in the NL, or if the AL didn't have the DH, I don't think he would throw inside as much as he does. Guys like Curt Schilling and Kevin Brown (when healthy) would stick on in Roger's ear if he threw at one of their teammates, and Roger would think twice before doing it again.

Hypocrite How so? I'm pretty sure that Killa's saying that he thinks it's hypocritical for you to say that you should NEVER throw at the head, and then immediately after that, saying that it's okay to throw at the pitcher's head who threw at the first guy's head. If that's what Killa meant, I agree with him. You can't have it both ways - if it's wrong for one, it's wrong for all. I think Juan Cruz handled it correctly - he plunked Torres in the knee. It could have done damage, but couldn't have killed Torres. If it's me, I probably drill the guy right between the numbers on the back of his jersey. Headhunting is low-class, no matter what. I see that point of view, but I disagree for 1 simple reason.... For the most part, the people that enjoyed watching Sammy get drilled felt that way because "he deserved it" because of the fact that he's "showboated" for years now by doing his little hop thing when he hits a HR. I don't think that is a valid reason to hit someone in the head with a deadly weapon. Now, on the other hand, you have a pitcher up to bat who DID hit someone on your team with a deadly weapon. I feel that the pitcher made a decision by hitting that person, and they have to suffer the consequences of that action. For example, Roger Clemens and Mike Piazza. Clemens drilled Piazza in the head and pretty much knocked him out cold, and many (including myself) feel that was an intentional beaning. As a teammate of Mike's, I would want to get even with Clemens as soon as possible, and a head shot would not be out of line IMO. Turn about is fair play, and someone like Clemens made a choice, and he's going to have to live with it. So while it can be viewed as hypocritical, I disagree for the above reason.

This would be perfect time for BMR to start accusing mods of being Nazis...don't give him any ideas. All I'm saying is that this is a message board, and if it wasn't for the members who faithfully come here on a regular basis and share thoughts/ideas, there wouldn't BE a board, so I think we should be free to talk about whatever it is that comes up -- even if it's not on the topic of baseball. Just a thought.
-
I never understand why topics get moved. If people are still posting on it, obviously they still care, and moving it causes it to get lost in the shuffle. Off-topic posts, IMO, should only be moved when they die down. At that point, nobody cares if it's moved or not.

I got to thinking about my comment about all the guys we got in the off-season (I mentioned Daubach, Rios, White, Gordon, and Loaiza) costing about as much as we would have had to give Jose Cruz, which was $3.7M. I decided to check the accuracy of that... Daubach -- $450,000 Rios -- $450,000 Loaiza -- $500,000 Gordon -- $1,400,000 White -- $600,000 That's a total of $3.4M (not factoring in the incentives that I know Loaiza has and I think Daubach has). That's money VERY wisely spent IMO. The Sox may be cheap, but this season we definitely are getting the most for our money talent-wise. Hopefully that talent will reach its potential.
-
Yeah, he's playing well. But, we chose Daubach and Rios for our back-up roles. I think we need to give them a few more AB's before we start second guessing. it was second guessing per se but a group of us wanted him and wondered at the time if he was worth the money. however we started to hear about his attitude and i am still wondering if that was not the sox doing in justifing that picking him up. How much did the Giants pay him? 3.7 mil $3.7M a year? I don't think the Sox would have given him that much. Hell, we got Loaiza, Daubach, Rios, White, and Gordon for that much.
-
Whoever wrote that report was telling the truth, actually. I just checked out his stats, updated I don't know when (it doesn't say). 59 AB, 17 hits, 2 walks, 13 stolen bases. .288 avg, but only a .306 OBP. Fast little guy. He's only 19.

OK, maybe he should be known as Botch until he gets it turned around, but... I love his attitude. ---------------------------------- "The gun (at U.S. Cellular Field) is screwed up. Everyone else is throwing nowhere close to where they should be. But, it was a bad pitch, and it doesn't matter if the speed was 96, 93 or 86 mph. If you throw it down the middle, someone is going to hit it hard." ---------------------------------- He's not like some pitchers who will try to make excuses. He has sucked lately, and he's man enough to admit it. I like that. He'll turn it around, don't worry -- and don't give up on him, because we'll need him in October!
-
Definitely. The more the merrier. And yeah, closer to game day (early June for the Dodgers and mid-August for the Angels) we'll have to discuss who's going and stuff and see what we can do about meeting somewhere before/after the game to talk about how the Sox are gonna kick ass. *knock on wood*

The ones in Chicago ocassionally tailgate and such. I'm out in Cali and I know there is a big contigence of us on the boards. There are a few in Oregon and I'd safely say we probably have a poster from each state on the board and a few countries. Either way, I think we have a great group here and I'm sure their will be many more great Sox fans coming over, especially after the Sox keep winning and winning. Some of course will be bandwagoners, but hey, if you get Bandwagon fans it means your doing something good so I don't have a problem with that. Also, I have seen some attacks lately but I'd like to say that I respect everyones opinion on here when it comes to baseball. Things have gotten heated at times and almost everytime things have ended up calming down and many times those that argue start to respect eachother more. I'm a firm believer that the people here can handle things and settle their own differences without personal attacks and if they go that way that they can get themselves out of it. Us admins/mods here try to just keep the trolls away and give the fans a place to give their opinion, whether its a rant of how much we suck or how great we are. I'd like to say that if people disagree with a certain poster about personal opinions to go ahead and say it, but when it does come to name calling, please stick away from it, it just isn't productive, kind of like our offense early in the season (Although I have no doubt it will be potent very soon). Anyway like Steff said: Back to Baseball The "Cali Contingent" should get together and tailgate this season at Oakland, LA, and/or Anaheim I think were planning on it. Well I will be planning on it in at least Anaheim and LA. We'll have to plan things out closer to the game. Even if we aren't all sitting near eachother, we could tailgate or something before the game (At least Saturdays at Dodger stadium) I guess my invite got lost in the mail. But I think it would be cool to meet as many of you guys as possible. It's fun being the only Sox fan in a 10 person radius rooting for the Sox, but it would be nice to have some support from some people who know their s***.

I don't think the players union would allow that. It happens in the Minors, but I don't think it is realistic in this scenario. The Sox just need to send JP down and gamble that he will clear waivers. If he doesn't, it would not be the end of the world. I wish the NBA had as strong a union as MLB (they have possibly the strongest union in America). People are put on the IR all the time in the NBA when they're perfectly healthy. I think that's BS.
