Marlins interested in Ozzie Guillen (again)
Milkman delivers replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) Think of it this way. You know your job is potentially in danger, and the general manager keeps setting you up for the fall. The one ally you have on the team is Jerry, and now you have a team that might be interested in you. I totally think think this leakk was Oney based. I agree with you. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) How on Earth is KW setting Ozzie up to take a fall? By giving Ozzie the exact players he asks for and then having the org mouthpieces defend them? You can see that Williams is setting up Ozzie just as well as anyone (justifiably, IMO). He toes the company line at times, but he also heavily insinuates repeatedly that Pierre is only here because of Ozzie and that he can't promote Viciedo because Ozzie wouldn't play him. He's speaking out of both sides of his mouth, really. I personally favor KW more, but both should probably go. The worst scenario would be to keep Ozzie and fire KW. -
WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) I've got a feeling you're right. Although, that might put Teahen in LF more often...which would put Teahen at 3b less, which would be a good thing. Pierre being gone is a good thing in every way I can think of. Replacing him with Viciedo would be the ideal move, though. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:19 AM) I understand that. If the manager's present day LF was no longer on the roster, however, would the player in AAA then be able to play everyday? I understand that Pierre will play everyday even with Viciedo on the roster, although I don't even know who you would send down if you did call Viciedo up. If Pierre was DFAed though, then I think the GM could force the manager's hand to start playing Viciedo everyday. If Ozzie then chose to stick with Lilli or Teahen, then I would start shifting the blame his way. I obviously have no proof of this, but I'm pretty sure Ozzie would sit Viciedo just to spite Williams if Pierre were DFA'd. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:17 AM) Midseason where the team is under .500 after going "all in behind the manager"? Even Ozzie and Oney aren't that dumb. He got his option picked up after yet another disappointing season in the offseason. It seems worth a shot to me. And no, I wouldn't put it past him. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 02:14 AM) I can't say ever since I didn't watch the first century and a quarter of Major League Baseball, but he's among the worst I've ever seen. The White Sox put on the "we're not managed well" clinic last night, letting the only good player on the other team produce their first three runs, leaving the starting pitcher in too long and making sure he burst into virtual flames and the game was over before removing him, and then letting Juan Pierre make the last out of the game during a mild threat with Brent Lillibridge available on the bench (and yes, I know he was ejected by that point, and no I don't buy he wasn't still calling the shots). Ozzie Guillen's PR manager, Joe Cowley, wrote this article after the game. I hope there is heat on Kenny Williams as well, to be fair. But we can only hope Oz is gone in the very near future: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/6074231-417...might-bolt.html EDIT: Sorry Greg, didn't notice you posted the story already. Why WOULDN'T Ozzie do something like that article suggests. He already b****ed and moaned his way into having his option picked up. He's like a little kid that cries to get his way. He's gonna keep doing it because he knows it works. -

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:50 PM) Yep, he's on fire. His average is all the way up to .178. And, he only struck out 3 times today. I guess having him play the field more is really making a difference. I thought it was 4 times? Either way, he's hilariously bad right now. I really don't even get mad. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) I dont love it. Pull f***ing rank. Release Pierre and bring up Viciedo. Dont let a guy who has put guys like Wise, Kotsay, and Pierre in positions to generate outs at the top of the lineup. It's fairly obvious that he doesn't have the power to pull rank. -

Kenny is definitely putting this squarely on Ozzie, and I love it. -
Sox "trying to get a return on investment"
Milkman delivers replied to Real's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 06:15 PM) When you buy $5000 worth of stock that you realize is going into the toilet and probably won't recover, do you: a) try to get rid of it as fast as possible, to cut your losses b) hold onto the stock while it plummets closer and closer to $0 because you're waiting for a "return on your investment" Sunk cost. 90% of the world understands it. The White Sox do not. EDIT: Although I don't believe they actually have that mindset. I'm fairly confident that Pierre continues to get starts because he's the type of player that Ozzie likes. This is just Rongey's (the organization's, really) way of deflecting that and giving it a more "reasonable" cause. They've shown little tendency or desire to maximize player contracts recently (signing and benching Teahen, Manny pick-up for a month, the Peavy/Rios acquisitions to an extent, etc.). -
Sox "trying to get a return on investment"
Milkman delivers replied to Real's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well, you can't argue with that logic. We're paying him a lot, so we need to play him absolutely as much as possible. You know what we should do? We should force Peavy to pitch even while he's injured. That'd get us a return on the investment. -
QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 03:48 PM) Some instant karma right there. In the previous bottom half of the inning, Pujols hit a home run. Earlier in that at-bat, rookie Louis Coleman was trying to pitch him inside, and of course one got away. It didn't even put Pujols in the dirt, but after his homer he watched it as he walked half way to first, and then glared at Coleman as he rounded the bases. This came AFTER the Cards intentionally hit Alex Gordon earlier in the game... I like Pujols less and less with each new subject about him.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) No chance. Even if he did have the best numbers by a reasonable margin, I don't think many of the writers would buy in. Verlander looks to be the best starter in the AL to me thus far. What makes you say that? The writers have been pretty good about choosing the correct guy for a few years now. So if Beckett gets hurt and Verlander and Weaver have mediocre second halves, I can see them voting for him. -
At the time of his retirement, I'm pretty sure he was third all time in grand slams. For a guy that wasn't really a power hitter, that just shows you how "clutch" he was. I use parentheses because I usually dislike that term, but Ventura is a guy that seriously was clutch.

Is it possible to grill badly? Over the last few weeks, I've been doing a lot of it. There has been chicken, steak, cheeseburgers, brats, polish sausage, etc. We have a bunch of seasonings and spices so I kind of just sift through them right before I grill and choose a random assortment that I think will go well with whichever food I'm making. And every single time, the food has been just delicious. I feel like I can just close my eyes and grab a handful of seasonings and it will still be good. One thing that I've done each time is use lemon juice (one of those little plastic lemon-shaped bottles). I'll give each item a few squeezes of lemon juice. It doesn't add too much in the way of flavor, but it seems to keep everything very juicy.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 05:52 PM) The seasons Beckett and Verlander are having make it rough... Those are the two guys I was thinking of. It would only take a rough patch for Verlander to get Humber past him. Beckett is blowing them both out of the water, though. But an injury is always just around the corner with that guy. EDIT: Ah crap, you're right. I forgot about Weaver. -

If a couple of guys have a bit of a down second half, can he seriously vie for the CY? -
I see the reasoning for the thread, but he's obviously not a hall of famer. He is the most deserving of anyone from the Sox during that time frame next to Thomas.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) Especially when these same people are absent when we put a little winning streak together. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 10:20 PM) NO doubt about it in my mind. Pay attention to who posts when we lose, and who posts when we win. Wait, who does that? The pessimistic posters I can think of are here all the time, regardless of how the Sox fared. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 01:16 PM) The other thing with a hammer is that you don't get the speed since the hammer isn't 30 inches long. When you're swinging an object, the linear velocity increases massively the farther away from the center around which it is being swung, while the angular velocity stays constant. Yeah, and that -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) Want to borrow my room for a week and just hang out around here? Bad in Tennessee? I guess that's not surprising.
