  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) I think he probably is just as frustrated as anyone. He probably feels like he is letting down the Club and the fans. I know most athletes wouldn't care, but I think some of them feel like real douchebags if they're making a ton of money and not backing it up on the field. It's just not good for anyone when that happens. Because he is. There's no two ways about it.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 07:49 AM) I don't get what is so wrong about this and why people are so upset with Jake. He is clearly dying to help the team in any capacity that he can. He wants to win and he wants to be a part of it, that much is evident. Is putting him in the bullpen the wisest decision? I'd say probably not. But it's hard for me to fault the guy for willing to perform in whatever capacity the club deems fit. Most pitchers would never offer to go to the bullpen no matter what. Complain all you want about his propensity to get injured (and it's a legitimate complaint), but at least to me there is nothing to say badly about his character. I really have no problem with him saying this at all. As Balta said, people get so upset because of his complete inability to stay healthy. It's great that he has a "bulldog" mentality and that he'd trade all of the sunshine and lollipops in the world to help the team, but he doesn't. He's just a massive waste of money, years, and a roster spot. Sure, he didn't ask to be born as frail as a leprous hemophiliac, but he is and it's tiring.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 07:24 AM) I just hope this isn't an admission from Jake that he himself isn't sure he can stay healthy as a starter... The problem with moving someone else to the bullpen in favor of Jake is that when he hurts himself again, you're going to have to move that bullpen pitcher back into the rotation again. Not a good idea to be bouncing someone back and forth like that. Which means you basically have to put Jake there or stick with a 6 man rotation when Jake gets back. For this reason, Fathom makes a really good point about whether or not JP actually helps us by being healthy at all. Exactly. As much as I want to like Peavy, I just want him to go away. Retire or something, I don't know. Just stop wasting our time and maybe give us back some of that money? Thanks.
  4. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) Who do you blame more for this? Ozzie or KW? For me, as stupid as Ozzie is for still believing in Juan Pierre, who has clearly lost all ability to play baseball, this is on Kenny Williams. KW has to know that JP is worthless, he is not a dumb guy. However, I don't think he has the balls to do the right thing for fear of the consequences in terms of the relationship with Ozzie. One word: Pathetic. I pretty much agree with you. It's like you're a parent with two kids. One is a perennial f***-up and the other is usually good. If you catch them doing something wrong, it's one of those "I expect this from Ozzie, but I expect much better from you, KW" situations.
  5. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) If only Sergio was left handed and broke his arm at some point and had to learn to throw righty...he'd be SET I also, just thought of the WORST nickname for Santos: Serg Protector... Awful. You're welcome. I know that one But didn't you mix up the left/right arm thing?
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) Yeah they just said it's normal. Also 1 vicotin didn't do anything so I think I'll just do advil from Hereon since it doesn't mess with my stomach. Eff vicotin. I was on Vicodin after a hernia surgery. It didn't do much that I could tell (those prescription strength Ibuprofen though ), but they sure as hell plugged me up. I couldn't s*** for 4 days and when I finally did, it was like I was pushing out a ball of glass shards. I will never understand how people use those for fun. Sorry for the graphic picture.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) Remember what, 5 years ago when Belichik had Doug Flutie come in and do a drop kick? Haha, yes.
  8. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) Trevor Hoffman was a SS in college and was drafted as one by the Reds and converted to a pitcher after he didn't have much success at that position I knew it had to be someone big, but I had no idea.
  9. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 03:00 PM) The interview after the last game of the A's series with Santos was pretty telling. He didn't seem nervous or pissed at himself for almost blowing another one. He was composed and calm. He seems to have the right closer's mentality, and you could see that going back to "The Club" last year. Also, he's a converted SS, which seems to help for closers for some reason haha This may be a dumb question, but who else are you referring to?
  10. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Thornton had his chance and failed we can no longer take the risk of losing games where we have the lead in the 9th and should win. Thornton serves best as an 8th inning relief man, what he has done best in his career with the White Sox. I agree. And if you're going to put someone else in there for a few games, make it anyone but Thornton. The last thing we need to do is to allow him to hurt his confidence again and go into another spiral.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) I gotta say...the DH in the AL, pitchers hit in the NL doesn't bother me. AL fans like the DH. NL fans like pitchers hitting. It wouldn't bother me if they kept it the way it is, but if they're going to make it the same, they have to add the DH in the NL. There's no way the player's association is giving that up. I completely agree with all of this. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) I think it's about time that the NL goes to the DH. Quarterbacks stopped being placekickers and punters several years ago, so I think it's OK if pitchers stop hitting any day now. That would get both the AL and the NL on the same rulebook. Seriously, it's absurd that the AL and NL play two separate and entirely different games. Wait, was that actually the case at one point?
  12. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 11:54 AM) I can't see the S in USA. It just looks like you are a big fan of United Airlines. It takes some effort to be as patriotic as I am, commie.
  13. U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! Sorry, I'm completely apolitical and just wanted to give this the nudge it needs to go to the Filibuster EDIT: The S's are hard to see.
  14. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 10:23 AM) Personally, I used to think J4L was a purely negative crackpot, but he's grown on me a ton. I now really appreciate his insight and his Rowand-like passion. Sometimes he gets a bit carried away with emotion, as most all of us do (guilty here), but there's no questioning his fanhood, IMO. You CAN love the team, and still despise the folks in charge. I don't fall into that camp entirely, but it's a completely valid viewpoint. This board wouldn't be half as much fun w/o he or Milk. Thanks, man.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 08:11 AM) This is one of those things that still really bugs me about the KW/Ozzie/JR relationship. KW is the GM. He is supposed to be in charge. The buck is supposed to stop with him. If he thinks they're losing games because his manager is being stubborn, he's supposed to be the one with the power to tell the manager to do as he says. If the manager refuses, then the GM is supposed to have the power to remove him. I don't think that's the case in this org. And if I'm right about that...that's the kind of situation where a GM ought to resign. That's what I've been saying. Ozzie has the power in this franchise, and it would become even worse if Williams is replaced by almost anyone else as they are likely to be "softer" than Williams.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) Really though how do we know what Milledge would've done had the Sox kept him? Exactly.
  17. QUOTE (forrestg @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) lillibridge to lead off if pierre dfaed or traded away That's acceptable, at least for the time being.
  18. Well, it's on Williams to do the right thing at this point and just designate Pierre for assignment. Ozzie's wishes be damned. He can cry to the media about it, but it's on Kenny to make the right move.
  19. It would be about time. There's still time to take this division, but we have to start making the right calls like this one.
  20. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) Ya but we gave up better talent than Jackson himself to get him. And Jackson time with the Sox is ticking away either thats at the trade deadline or the end of the season while Hudson would have been in the team control for several years. I truly believe KW probably got spurned by the Washington GM since he prolly believe to flip Jackson for Dunn cuz no way do you get some1 worse than the guy you are giving up which is the case in Hudson for Jackson. At least Jackson has been pitching. I don't see how you don't get these things. The Peavy trade is worse because it ties up a ton of money for years with a guy that doesn't even pitch. The Peavy trade was a win for the Padres because they needed to get rid of Peavy and they did so without having to pay a cent of his contract.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) I have probably been the most negative on the Tigers since Day 1, and I still don't feel they are going to be there at the end. I am just not convinced they are anything more than a .500ish team. Maybe that could change if they do some big work at the trading deadline, but I don't see it still. Well, I guess a .500ish team may win this division. With the Twins coming on hot, we have to worry about them again. I base a lot of my perception on history. We fail more down the stretch than we succeed, and the Twins have a way of coming back. I fully believe we have to let another GM and manager get a crack at this team.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) I was in the camp of not writing him off, and thought he could be OK. I know I had that very argument with you. Granted I didn't think he would be Cy Young, but hey. I was in that camp, too. And I've said a bunch of times that the Sox could still get back into the race, but that is mainly due to the division being garbage. I've said that the Tigers were the real threat and that the Sox will probably finish with a record around .500, and I stick by all of those things. I preferred Milledge over Lillibridge, as I saw Brent as only bringing speed to the table. I was obviously wrong about that, but I still believe that Milledge would be a positive for this team.
  23. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) The craziest thing was Pierzynski looking over to the dugout after ball 1 to Sizemore, basically imploring Guillen to immediately pull Santos for literally anyone (at least that's how I read it) and then trotting out to the mound hoping Ozzie would follow. 99% of people watching this game could see that Santos just didn't have it tonight, but Ozzie was going to let him lose this game anyway. Hell, I put in Buehrle on one day's rest to get this last out after watching everything. ANYONE. That's the kind of creative thinking that won a world series, not passively letting someone who had NOTHING bury your team all by himself. We needed one out. he walked three and hit one, and Ozzie didn't even move towards the mound. Your closer just doesn't have it tonight. PULL HIM. In instances where he's not had it in other nights, he gives up more than 1 run. Losing this game was the most ludicrous loss I've seen in a long time. I didn't see AJ looking to the dugout, but I clearly remember telling my buddy that it was obvious that Santos had nothing and he needed to be replaced by anyone when he loaded the bases.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) Seriously, X-Men is quality. Just saw it. I'd say it was the best in the franchise. I'm even tempted to say that it was easily the best. I loved it.
