  1. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 6, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) I don't know much about Barons 2b Tyler Kuhn but he seems to be having a decent season so far. Is he a legit prospect? He's a White Sox prospect. So, no.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) Apparently they disqualify anyone who starts 11-21. Honestly, they might as well. Two of something like 94 teams have made the playoffs after starting that badly.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) He took a discount for $2 million this year to help out the payroll. Haha, thanks, AJ! But still, it's going to make him very hard to move.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 6, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) Really? I don't agree with that. GM's realize that record is very dependent on the team around the pitcher and we've done a horrible job scoring runs for him pretty much his entire career here. He might not have a sexy record to get casual fans excited or grab media attention but I'm sure guys in front offices know how good and valuable Danks is. You don't think a qualified GM is going to talk the price down, even a tiny bit, by bringing the record into it? Really?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) No one has thought of Torrealba as a full time player since his career started, most he's ever caught is 105 games and he has a career .705 OPS. AJ regularly catches 130+ games, has a .744 career OPS, and his .688 OPS in a terrible year last year was only .017 points worse than Torrealba. Russell Martin's OPS the last 2 years was .680 and .679, worse than last year's AJ, and he only caught 97 games in 2010 due to health issues. He's also being paid $4 million this year (AJ is getting $2 million this year and $6 million next year, averaging to $4 million). People would have laughed had we signed either of those guys and declared them to be our starting C. Ugh, $6 million for next year? He's going to be impossible to move.
  6. As stupid as it may seem to the majority of us, we almost definitely would receive less for Danks because of the bad record.
  7. QUOTE (Real @ May 6, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) why are you deflecting and avoiding my point? and if I had said it last year, how would it have been wrong? does the MLB award the division to the first team to go 25-5? This team is TOAST, stick a fork in 'em! Haha, love it.
  8. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 6, 2011 -> 10:29 AM) If the Sox had any balls, they would keep Humber in the rotation and move someone else out. Herein lies the problem with the organization, they are so committed to this loyalty and not ruining the status quo s*** that they become an inferior team. I would easily take Jackson out or Buerhle out for that matter. We kept AJ outta loyalty. He blows. We take Humber out of the rotation for loyalty. We keep Guillen/Walker outta loyalty. They both blow. I could go on and on. Yep, I've been saying this. But like others have said, I disagree on the AJ part. The rest is true, though.
  9. I'm sure he's just saying this. But if he's not, he's just going to piss off fans even more. And you'll see those crowds of 12,000 dwindle even more. So go ahead, KW. Keep your coaching staff together. It'll just mean your head at the end of the year. (It probably will end with KW gone anyway, but making big changes and hoping for a spark is really his only chance anymore)
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) I don't know why you guys are surprised. I have been saying that since the off-season. They will not hold off on melting this team down like they have in years past people of payroll considerations. These guys got rich for a reason, and it wasn't because they allowed their losses to fester. I do still believe the team would recover if left alone, but I don't think the ownership group is going to give them the time to play it out. And they shouldn't. The coaching staff and the players knew what was expected and necessary of them from day one. I haven't seen any sense of urgency at all.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2011 -> 12:50 PM) Its not optimism, it is realism. We have a record payroll and we can't afford it to have it with a bad team. Kenny can't afford to wait until the last minute to sell. Unless something crazy happens in the next few weeks, the days with this team are numbered. It isn't that I don't think they could, or would, turn it around, it is that they aren't going to absorb the financial hit from this. They aren't going to chance taking a bath on these guys, period. I agree. I've been saying since at least the second week of the season that they needed to start turning it around immediately. They emphasized over and over again that they needed to start out hot in order to draw more fans early in the season. Everyone kept saying that they had plenty of time to get back into it. And while that was true, it didn't make a difference. The whole point of this team was to be in it from start to finish in order to justify the payroll and make the money back. While they could conceivably have gotten back into the race in June and still win the division, the importance of being in the race and drawing fans in April and May was too great to allow them to flounder for all of April and quite possibly this month, too.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 5, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) And somehow not a single step has been taken to address the teams woes. No player has been sent down and no one on the coaching staff has been let go. Unbelievable. Don't worry, they'll sacrifice Morel. It's always the young guys that guy the blame on this team. It certainly won't be a veteran traded or a coach fired.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2011 -> 08:59 AM) Memorial Day. Watch. Have you officially given up? I know you're probably the biggest optimist on the board and it'd really say something if you truly expect them to be selling off parts by Memorial Day.
  14. QUOTE (Andrew @ May 5, 2011 -> 08:21 AM) Exactly. We've officially hit the bottom; can't get any worse than "worst." More or less what I was getting at. I'm just hoping the SP is still hanging in there if/when this team finally decides to start hitting. If they follow the normal M.O. of this team, the starting pitching will not be doing well by the time the hitters wake up. They never seem to click all at once, and usually one aspect seems to be faltering at a high rate while the others are doing well.
  15. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 5, 2011 -> 11:26 AM) Seattle series is the alliteration series. Humber vs. Hernandez Floyd vs. Fister Buehrle vs. Bedard What are the chances?! QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 5, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) It stands for How Freaking Bad are both of these offenses! These are both actually very cool.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2011 -> 12:22 PM) About the same percentage as people who thought 9/11 was some sort of a conspiracy... C'mon, the conspiracy theorists for 9/11 were not that high, were they? EDIT: Awkward wording, yes.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) <!--quoteo(post=2372335:date=May 5, 2011 -> 12:14 PM:name=Milkman delivers)-->QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 5, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) <!--quotec-->Was it really that many? My God, I hate Americans. I suppose that's the wrong thing to say in a thread about the death of Osama bin Laden. I love America, but I can't stand Americans. I remember watching that episode and thinking about how I've felt that way many, many times.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 5, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) I think there are various types of deniers out there. There's your extreme conspiracy theorists who won't believe anything, even if they see it with their own eyes. But I also think there are skeptics out there who question whether Bin Laden is really dead and a picture of proof (including perhaps pictures of his burial service) would leave no doubt. Look at the birther issue. Nearly 40% of the population kinda bought into it. Obama gave proof, and now you're just left with the nut jobs who think it's all a fake. Was it really that many? My God, I hate Americans. I suppose that's the wrong thing to say in a thread about the death of Osama bin Laden. I love America, but I can't stand Americans.
  19. QUOTE (Andrew @ May 4, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) Sure. I don't think many guys here would object to that at all. In fact, I'll just go ahead and say on behalf of "many guys here", let's kick some asses out. I will celebrate like no other when Ozzie gets s***canned. I don't care what day it is. I will go out and party.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) That's why I said give it the season. Changing GMs or managers or coaches really isn't going to make a difference right now. At the end of the year, if the team was crap JR shouldn't decide which of KW or Ozzie to keep, he should get rid of them both, and take all the coaches with them. I would also imagine the KW/Ozzie relationship has a good chance of going sour if the losing continues, because fingers will be pointed, things will be said. I hope this works and still think there's a chance, but if it doesn't, I hope JR decides to try something else. These seasons are starting to seem like re-runs. If the season is obviously over before the actual end of the season, I still want them fired. I know it wouldn't make a difference to the season because it would already be over, but the vindictive side of me wants them thrown out during the year for the added kick in the ass.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 4, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) On a side not, just got home from training. Had no access to news. No one fired yet? No, not yet. I'd expect it to happen later tonight or possibly tomorrow. It would probably be better to do it tonight, as it would allow people to get used to the idea all day tomorrow.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 4, 2011 -> 05:15 PM) Ditto. I love that. So true. Let's give it until Memorial Day before we discuss how true it is.
  23. The title could have been a little less clunky But yeah, I expect ugliness based on our history on the West coast and the team's play this year.
  24. QUOTE (G&T @ May 4, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) I have come to the conclusion, rightly or wrongly, that performance problems stem from lack of accountability. It's not like anyone wants to fail, but when it doesn't really matter whether the manager's kids act like idiots, and the GM and manager are fighting, and you have year after year of failure and nothing happens to anyone, then it is just easy to stop pushing. I just don't think it coincidence that Ozzie's best seasons were in his first 3 years. I don't know why I quoted you. I actually think KW should get another chance with a new manager. The team has certainly been in a malaise for quite some time.
