We need to pack the The Cell Tuesday & Wednesday
Milkman delivers replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 4, 2011 -> 02:14 AM) Laugh all you want...but when this team saw a crowd of only 20,000 there tonight, it had to be demotivating. If the fans aren't going to come out for a key game against a top divisional rival, why even try? Crowds like this insure that we will not contend this year. Haha. Aw...cute -
QUOTE (Hawkfan @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:16 AM) Disagree with thread, show the sox some love. They've made what looked like great investments. Although there was obvious risk, they threw their money out there to give us fans a great team. Lets continue to support them so that we can continue to see great white sox baseball. I think and hope that this is slathered in sarcasm.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 4, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) s***, I know I'm mad. Surprised? No. Because I never thought this team was a lock to flat-out dominate. Never thought it would be this bad. But there were pros and cons either way. Outside of Dunn, who's been a massive bust to this point, this is the exact same team that came up short last year. I guess you could say Crain, who's been fantastic, is Putz at this point. It was just automatically assumed that 'well, this team won 88 games last year with Kotsay at DH. Surely that can win more than that with Dunn.' That's the lazy way of looking at it. There are just too many hit-or-miss guys on this team. Offense and pitching. We don't have multiple guys, think the Rockies with Cargo and Tulo, that can flat dominate and carry you for a month or more. Guys that can mask the inconsistency of others. Baseball is not as superstar-centric as basketball, obviously. But it's nice to have one or two. The fundamentals are what's eatin' at me the most. The errors, the poor baserunning, ect. This is not supposed to happen with Ozzie managed teams. Yet it's the case every year, save one. I don't know why it bothers me so much, but I just have to say it since it seems like you do it a lot. It's "etc."

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 4, 2011 -> 10:04 AM) How satisfying it's going to be to STILL take the division and make the playoffs after giving everyone a head start. The Sox are going to do it. I imagine you're the type of person who does not take bad news well.

Oz gives MB champagne and HOF vote on 150 wins

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) What did Charles Comiskey ever do for this franchise? His OPS was ZERO! In all seriousness, wasn't he considered a big piece of crap? -

Milkman delivers replied to Quin's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) So a thought came to me that really frustrated me about last night. Twice this year, the Sox faced a lefty where they only scored one run against the starter (Braden, Britton). In both of those games, the only run came due to Lillibridge. Why is Ozzie not finding a spot against LHP for one of our few dangerous hitters right now? I was hoping that Lillibridge would PH for Rios last night in the 8th. Nope, he just got used as a pinch runner. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 4, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) Winning line up. Teahen is my pick to click. Rios will get off too. Come on guys it's not going to get any worse. It can't. There's too much talent on this team for them to be this bad for very long. It's darkest before dawn. WOULD PEOPLE STOP f***ING SAYING THIS?! -
This thread is slowing down precipitously and that makes me sad.

That's awesome.

It's pretty cool to see that people are taking this with a smile here on Soxtalk. It's OK for us because we're all going to be here again next year. I'm scared that this overwhelming disappointment is going to seriously hurt the organization for a long time, though. Normal fans are just going to stop going to games for years. It's only good in the sense that it will help the team purge the riffraff from the organization.

Victor Conte is the guy I was thinking of.

QUOTE (Pale Sox @ May 3, 2011 -> 11:37 PM) It's becoming kind of funny though, no? When you watch it as if it were sarcastic, it's absolutely golden. Watching sarcastically...that's actually a good reason to see the Sox.
-
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 3, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) From the link in post #37: This is the first and only time I've heard of him confirming that it did in fact happen. Stan Conte? Isn't that the steroids guy?

QUOTE (Cali @ May 3, 2011 -> 11:09 PM) 1997 Marlins, 2003 Marlins, 2002 Angels (I mean they made the playoffs a lot after but bottom out every time, and I'm sure their fanbase is pretty pissed about it ) Took the Yankees almost 10 years to finally buy another championship, I'm sure that was frustrating for all the spoiled-ass Yankee fans.... Doesn't that kind of not make sense? They one it in 1997 and then they were right back there winning it again six years later. And the Angels have been to the playoffs like every season since winning it. The Diamondbacks haven't done too much, but at least they've won a playoff series since winning it all. I don't think the Sox even experienced much of an attendance bump besides the year immediately following their championship. They then became arguably the worst team around.

Francisco Liriano threw a no-hitter tonight.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 3, 2011 -> 10:47 PM) Off topic, but has anyone seen his stand-up act since Full House? It's f***ing miserable. Same tired material interspersed with Full House stories. He's a zombie. The only worthwhile thing he's done in 15-20 years was a cameo in Half Baked. Oh, it's terrible. I saw him live for the first time of ever seeing his standup. It was funny because I was drinking and it was Danny Tanner cursing and talking about f***ing the Olsen twins. I saw a special of his since then, and it was the exact same routine. I mean exactly the same.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) Good question, but with each passing year, it makes me appreciate 2005 even more. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, went right for us and we capitalized on those breaks. It was definitely a fluke, but not in a bad way. We deserved the World Series that year as much as any team has in a long time. I agree with that. This team seemed to have just so much potential going forward from 2005. I can't recall a single other team going from the best in one year to just about the worst only two years later. And it's been nothing but utter disappointments since then.

Have the Sox done less with a championship season than any other baseball team in recent memory?
-
QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 3, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) I'm pretty much cooled down...I think we all had the 7-8-9th innings to get mentally prepared for the outcome. I think it was pretty apparent that we weren't gonna get a hit. We've been flirting with being no hit for a few years now...it was just a matter of time until it finally happened. It's not the least bit shocking/suprising that this happened, which I think makes it easier to accept. Also very true on all accounts.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) Seriously, me neither. Not that anyone cares, but I've emotionally checked out on this team. Sure, they can suck me back in with a 25-5 stretch, but I just don't believe in the organization right now. I'll be watching games now to enjoy Santos, Humber, and hope to see improvements from Beckham/Quentin/Rios/Dunn/Sale/Floyd/Morel This.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 3, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) No we don't, because you guys have sucked for a lot longer, and because your ownership/GM situation has been hilarious for over a decade. Teams that won't augment the farm with productive veterans, teams that won't trade prospects to make runs, teams that won't spend money - they're supposed to lose. If you guys had the kind of payroll this Sox team has had you'd have won something already. This s*** is just laughable for us as Sox fans because everything was in place for a realistic division title and deep playoff run. Look, you take butter, chocolate chips, flour, baking soda, vegetable oil, and eggs, and no matter where you are on the planet, if you mix those ingredients in a bowl you're going to get chocolate chip cookie dough. Somehow if you do the same while wearing a Sox hat, you end up with a turd. There's some weird alchemical transformation that goes on when you take a group of talented players and put them in Sox jerseys and unfortunately our GM and ownership has yet to figure out enough of the formula to buck the trend. at the second paragraph.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 3, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) What do you mean accountability? If Walker comes to work, he does more than is asked of him, he is well liked and respected, what should he be held accountable for? Results do not always mean who was the best. I would have no problem with Walker working in the front office, by all accounts hes a solid well liked guy. If you fire someone for not getting a job done, I think it's rather stupid to just move them to another job with your company.
-
I don't think this is going to be a problem. People aren't going to be going to Sox games.

Milkman delivers replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 3, 2011 -> 09:26 PM) Sucks to be the guy who gave up his tickets to you. If only we had more people there, we may have had a hit! Yeah, I'm actually happy that I got to see a no hitter in person. I don't believe many people get to say that. I blame this loss squarely on the fans. As you said, the team would have put in a much greater effort had they heard more cheers.
