Yanks KW called about Duque??
Milkman delivers replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) If we could get another starter in a different deal, the Duke for Flash would be a steal. With the Yankees being so desperate for pitching, I think we could get a little more. I don't know exactly what that is, but we could get more and probably should to hurt their chances a little. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) If they gave us Gordon and the Sox picked up Burnett or another starter (similar to him) without giving up Contreras. I'd make the deal in a heartbeat. Shouldn't we get a little more than just Gordan? I realize he's damn good, but he's a reliever. I could understand a starter for a closer, such as Burnett for Wagner, but not just a reliever for a starter. -
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) I really don't believe so. The Braves were 11 games over .500 and only 2.5 games behind Washington a month ago today. The Braves were playing well with rookies at 3B, 1B, and both corner OF positions. They were playing with an injured Furcal and Chipper Jones, Hudson and Hampton were all on the DL. Their bullpen was and still is in shatters. Yet, they are 11 games over .500 and 2.5 games behind Washington. Everyone was waiting for things to catch up with Washington because they were scoring less runs than they were giving up. I don't see how you people think Robinson would have it wrapped up and would have ran away with it just because he was only 2.5 games up and was a "surprise" to everyone. Everything was lucky for them and I do believe everyone saw it that way. Maybe not you guys, but everyone else did. If you say so, chief.

Sammee's still an asshole
Milkman delivers replied to Al Lopez Ghost (old)'s topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) You should try to catch highlights from last nights O's game. Samme was the potential winning run in the bottom of the 10th. Single to right, as Sammee rounds 3rd he peeks back to check the throw, can see that a good throw will get him, and he slides with his spikes about a foot off the ground into the catcher's chest. He's out, and he pats the catcher on the face, as if to say, no hard feelings. I saw it on sportscenter last night, and I hate him even more now. He might as well have dropkicked the catcher, it was that obvious. It's a good thing the catcher had that steal chair with him, or Sammy might've given him the Tombstone. -
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) I think you are completely wrong. No way it would have been a landslide and I believe Cox would have wond it. At the same time they were saying that they were also saying it was luck because they had less runs scored than runs given up. They knew it was just a matter of time until it caught up with them and the BRaves or Marlins took over. Yeah, fathom's definitely right on this one. Robinson had that thing wrapped up about a month ago. Bochy would've even had a good shot at coming in second a while ago.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) I guess you can interperet it in several ways. But my guess is that he's not complaining about playing time, but rather bashing himself for blowing a game in one of the few opportunities he gets to play. That's what I interpreted it as, but it's subjective. I think we make reactions like this on the way we feel about the player. I like Gload, so I assume he was bashing himself. If it was another player, oh, um...let's say Konerko for no reason whatsoever, I would think he meant something bad. I'm sure a lot of people do the same thing, depending on how they already feel about the guy.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:59 PM) What's exactly the situation you're refering to? Is it that there's limited players on the market worthy of trading prospects/positional player, or the possibility of Williams standing pat with our current roster? You can't always be fortunate enough to hold the best record in franchise history during a relatively weak trading market. I expect Williams to make some move, whatever it may be, because this team has not convinced me it is built to contend for a World Series. Takes two to tango, yes. But it's his job to lure potential partners. He better make a move, or else the finger is pointed at him in October if this club fails to advance far into the playoffs. How can Williams justify to fans not doing ANYTHING to strengthen this team? He can't. And I'm sure he realizes this. I do expect him to do something. I'm just saying that it's a seller's market this year, and there just really might not be a fit out there. Take Huff and Baez as an example. TB might as for too many regulars on the roster to make the deal even worth making. They might not take the prospects we throw at them. For Schmidt, they said they might want two starters. I'm sure that's wrong, but maybe SF will stick to their guns. Then, the trade would be useless.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) Vizcaino has been good for the past 2 months. The guy puts on so many runners. He's not very good at all, and putting so many runners on will eventually catch up with him again. Well then, there must have been trade talks about Marte for a long time. He's looked nervous for as long as I can remember about him. He's the guy that'll be gone before the deadline, it seems. Hawk and DJ seem to hate the guy. Ozzie is cursing whenever he's in the game. Nobody likes him.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) Don't be pissed at KW if nothing happens. Takes two parties to get something done and history shows KW goes to great lengths to make moves. We all know he is trying. I don't think anyone could be pissed at KW, no matter what. The guy pulled this team out of his ass, and it's a huge success. I will, however, be pissed at the situation. I won't blame KW, Ozzie, JR, etc. There will be no one to blame, but I'll still be pissed off. The way this team has played the last few weeks shows that they need a kick in the ass to get them going. They seem to think they have the division wrapped up or something. They certainly aren't playing anywhere near the way they once played.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) At the beginning of the season, I don't remember anyone suggesting that we'd be this dominant. I recall quite a few predictions that we have a good team, but that it would be a very close race, with some bad stretches, but hopefully we'd pull it out and I think we will. Now if Politte sports anything over a 3 era in any span, there's a crisis. I still think Politte's overperforming. But we have a pretty good chance this year, even w/o a single trade, just b/c we CAN dominate, and that's pretty rare. Noone always DOES. And the despair is just ridiculous on any team that's been as good as this one. Even fathom has said that he's pretty psyched, and I didn't believe anyone could be more negative than fathom. Until this year. Milkman, I think you're a good poster, I've said that explicitly before. I just think all this 'futility' talk is more than ridiculous. Six outtings for a (more-or-less) 1-inning pitcher is nothing meaningful. His ERA has been like 6, though. I'm just afraid that he's been worked too much, and that it'll keep on affecting the way he pitches. I'm also not too sure about his psyche. I'm excited, there's no doubt about that. I'm also worried that some bad things might happen and screw it all up. -

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) He's done. So are the Sox. They aren't on pace to win 120. It's over. It was a legitimate question, so you don't have to be a smartass about it. In his last 6 appearances, his ERA is near 6. -

Is something wrong with Politte? Overworked? He's been bad his last 5 appearances, according to the stats. If we don't win this game, we're 12-11 in the last 23 games. We can go .500 and still win 95 games, but I sure as hell don't wanna go into the playoffs on that kind of note. We need something to shake these guys up. They're too complacent now.
