Jeremy Roenick sounds off about fans
Milkman delivers replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) he is mad that the players association didnt take the first deal, and is pissed off at all the people who are saying hockey is dead. i have to agree with him on the most part because as a hockey fan we don't need the people who rip on hockey to come back to it when it returns to greatness, hopefully. I've already used this response today, but here it goes again: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! -
Buehrle's chances of winning a Gold Glove just got better.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) Eric milton = butter parque's lover. Eric milton = most hated pitcher in baseball for qwerty. There's a few pitchers I hate more than Milton. Carlos Zambrano, Kris Benson, Randy Johnson, Scott Schoeneweis, to name a few. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) The newest Gammons article says that the Blue Jays turned down Ryan Howard for Lilly. So Id say Lilly is out of the question at those prices. SB Wow...for two reasons. First, I can't believe the Jays turned down Howard for Lilly. Second, didn't the Phillies learn their lesson with Milton (flyball pitchers don't work in that bandbox)? -
I used to be confident that we'd keep Timo, even though he didn't deserve a roster spot. Now looking back on the last few weeks since Frank's return, the choice is clear as day. Willie has had some big pinch run opportunities and has scored some big runs. Ozuna is clearly going nowhere. And Timo has hardly gotten any PT at all. The writing's on the wall, Timo Perez is the odd man out.

BMac to start Wednesday against Detroit
Milkman delivers replied to bjm676's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 05:08 PM) Gotta remember, Detroit's pen hasn't been that great either so hopefully we can get to them early in the series. If B-Mac can throw the change for strikes, and establish his curve, and leave his fastball down in the zone, he'll pitch well in my mind. Don't give up on him because his last 2 or 3 starts haven't been great, gotta remember how well he threw in his MLB debut against the Flubs. That's a whooooooole lotta ifs right there. -
Every year around this time I see one of those pictures with a bunch of sharks swimming just feet away from people, and it scares the hell out of me every single time. Even when I'm in my own pool, sharks somehow cross my mind. Damn, Jaws.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) What about Andy Pettitte? With his contract, the Astros can't demand much for him; it would enough for someone else to take him off their hands. Plus he has the postseason resume that could help us a lot, and he balances our top 4 guys, slotting perfectly between Garcia and Garland. He seems like a much better choice than a mediocre pitcher like Ted Lilly. Maybe the Astros would take Jose Contreras for him straight up? At least they'd be getting a healthy pitcher. Should Pettitte's health problems concern me? Pettitte and Contreras make exactly the same amount of money. I doubt that trade would seem good to them. -
No offense, but BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) "Past statistics are not relevant to the future" I'm sure that you've won plenty of debates in your time. Hit the road, man. You're just another terrible poster from the 2005 class. How many quality posters have registered on this site since the beginning of the year, maybe two? Thanks. Though I'm sure I'm in your "terrible poster" class, I don't think you should bunch so many people into that group and belittle that many people.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 10:13 AM) SPOILER!!! I loved Romero's decision on Cholo's fate!!! That was a brilliant move and one I had longed for in zombie flicks. I haven't seen this movie nor do I plan on seeing it any time soon, but this interested me. What happened?

Putting a freeze on the Meltdown talk

This thread is pointless because 75% of the Meltdown Thread was people berating anyone being slightly negative. The Meltdown Thread itself was mainly optimisitic. -

QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 09:31 AM) Jason Jennings, Rockies Jason Schmidt, Giants Noooooooooo Rockies' starters. We're looking to win now, and those pitchers always take a while to be good again. Besides, none of them are really that good. Jason Schmidt....hell yeah. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 09:22 AM) IMO, Marte will not be here in September. Good, he can bring us a lot in a trade. -
With Detroit's offense, I'm scared to have McCarthy start. They could crush that kid's ego in no time.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) That's because you conveniently cut off my quote. Both players had elevated pitch counts because they both throw a lot of pitches (Colon already had 114, Zambrano had 108). And as I said, in close games most managers would rather bring in one of their better relievers than put in a starter that has thrown a lot of pitches in that game. As for the struggling thing, I'm not talking about allowing runs, I'm talking about walking a guy on four pitchers or allowing a hard hit single or two before they get yanked. I'm too lazy to check the box scores, and it doesn't really affect the argument anyways. If it's a 1-0, 2-1, or 3-2 type of game, you're not that likely to see a starter come back out. There are some exceptions (especially if the pen sucks, not the case with most of these teams), but you don't see too many 8 or 9 inning starts in the playoffs. Anyways, odds are our pitching will stop teams from getting more than 4 runs, meaning we'll be in the game the whole way and quite possibly in the lead, and that's assuming little to no offense, which isn't always the case. We can argue this forever, but we're probably not going to change each others' minds. I believe that other teams' top guys flat out dominate us. I've made my conclusion from seeing it happen. The only guy I can remember us having any luck with was Harden.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) I'm in the same boat as you. In my eyes there are no untradeable prospects, McCarthy/Anderson/Sweeney/Tracey/Baj/Valido/Young, I don't give a s*** who they are or how well they play in the minors. If trading them can net us a stud player for the bullpen/rotation/lineup, go for it and bring them in. Seeing Reed and Morse in Seattle doesn't bother me one bit because all I have to do is take a look at the Sox rotation and see that stud in the 2nd spot hell just watch Friday's game and then tell me you miss Reed, Morse or Olivo. I agree with you on all of that. Another thing is that I have this fear that this guy will be just like Borchard. Borchard tore up the minors and he was a sure-thing starter of the future. I cringe to think what we could have gotten for him if he just had the balls to trade him. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) If it was said in this thread then it wasn't Jason it was Jim. They are both extremely reliable sources. This was the quote from this thread: That was all he said. I trust him as a reliable source however I just don't see the Sox getting Lilly but I wouldn't put anything past KW. With the way El Duque's been since going on the DL and with Contreras gradually coming back down to earth, I would absolutely love for Kenny to get a stud pitcher. I couldn't care less about McCarthy. I've seen too many sure prospects turn to garbage to give a rat's ass about him. I'm not saying he won't be good, but he sure as hell is no sure thing. I'd trade him along with every other prospect we have for a proven talent. -
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:44 AM) Actually in the playoffs it seems like they are more likely to come out if they are starting to struggle That's the problem right there. Neither one of those examples you mentioned were struggling in their respective games.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) Since when do you listen to what people around here say and take it seriously. Lilly is an option but there is absolutely no gaurentee KW will get him, in fact I'd bet against it. It was Chisoxfn, if I remember correctly. And that guy seems to know what he's talking about. Therefore, I believe what he says.
