  1. QUOTE(Spiff @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) Manny can throw people out, he's been doing it all year. W-T-F?!?!?! I think it's more reflective on Fenway and the fact that some of these assists occur after runners are trying to take an extra base on one of his errors. I didn't see the play tonight, so I can't comment on that.
  2. Don't worry guys, next inning we have our 2005 equivalent of Bronx Bombers up.
  3. Here is what concerns me. outside the AL Central, we our around .500 against the rest of the AL.
  4. umm, are you serious? Well, we have the top of the line up next inning...
  5. ugh, I'm out of market, so I'm using Yahoo Gamechannel. Did Crede just err?
  6. Do you trust Contreras with the ball in the playoffs?
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) With the big asssumption being that either Crede or Lowell could adjust to being a bench player, and that AJ pitches better than the combination of both Marte and Contreras. I wouldn't make the move if they wanted Marte.
  8. Odalis had a no hitter through 6 after coming off the DL. 7 ip / 3 hits / 1 bb / 7 ks / 0 runs
  9. also, Lowell's K #s aren't high this year. I think he is on pace for a career low. The balls he hit just aren't finding the gaps. It makes me think it's a fluke.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) I wouldn't mind Lowell if I was able to take some sollice (sp?) in knowing that he'd regress somewhat to his career numbers, but man -- .230/.281/.351, that's just pathetic. And like you said, his career numbers are good -- last three seasons, he's posted OPS+' of 116, 132, and 127 -- that's awesome. But, he's on the wrong side of 30, and is still owed over $20 million. I can't see the Sox committing themselves to that kind of money... It's a risk, yes. It's not a risk for this year though. It gives us a back up 3b/1b who can spell Konerko or Crede 3 times a week. It also allows us to land Burnett. Now, if Lowell's #s return and he is our new 1b next year, the deal works out great. If he continues to slump, then it doesn't work out. Thing is, IF we go all the way this year, it won't really matter that much.
  11. Call me crazy, but I would'nt mind taking Lowell in the deal. All signs point to this being a fluke year. His #s this month are decent. I like that he can play 3rd to keep Crede healthy. Also, if he can move to first next year, he could replace Konerko.
  12. Uribe & Gonzalez would make a hell of a platoon. Uribe against lefties / Gonzalez against righties.
  13. In 65 at bats, Getz has 8 walks compared to 1 strike out. .338/.421/.446 lilne.
  14. This is Livan's comments today: "I'm not happy for three years. After the season, I'm going to tell you" why, said Hernandez, 12-4 with a 3.44 ERA and the unquestioned staff ace. "It's 99.9 percent I'm not going to pitch no more" this season, he said. "I'm done, I think, so let's see what happens. ... I'll go to sleep and I'm going to make a decision tonight." His right knee has been a nagging problem all year, and it was drained May 16. But Hernandez said it's not bothering him enough to affect his pitching -- nor was he told to have the knee worked on. "It's not the doctors. It's me. I'm the doctor. I don't need it, but I'm going to" have an operation, he said. Pressed to explain why, Hernandez said: "I'm tired of something. ... I'll tell you when the season's over. I'm mad." Will this mean Nationals will try to get rid of him? Maybe he wants to play with his brother. It's just an idea.
  15. I was at that game, pretty entertaining.
  16. Back in May I purchased one month of MLB.tv. I wanted to see how much I liked it before I decided to get the whole season. The thing is, I can still use it and I haven't been billed for another month.
  17. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 01:31 AM) Would you rather have Jermaine Dye or Ken Griffey Jr.? Ken Griffey: 35 yrs old, $10+ mil, 20 hrs, .287/.365/.540 - .905 OPS Jermaine Dye: 31 yrs old, $4 mil, 19 hrs, .263/.328/.510 - .838 OPS Who is better? Probably Griffey. Is he worth $6 mil more and the players/prospects we would have to trade? Not a chance. Griffey is just a name that people are getting crazy over. He isn't anyone we need.
  18. Contreras, Takatsu and a high prospect (McCarthy?) for Schmidt. I'd do it if they would. I could feel good with Buerhle, Garcia, Schmidt & Garland playoff rotation.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) I've said this before but having Bobby, Damaso, Neal, Hermy, Cliff, and now im even happy to have viz back for next year just makes me extremely thrilled, the bullpen is in fantastic shape for this year and next. Isn't Pollite a FA at the end of the year?
  20. I still think Schmidt, Burnett, Perez or Lilly are better options than Contreras. What we saw tonight was vintage Jose. He strikes out 4 of the first 5 battes he faces. After that he gives up a 3 run homer. He proceeds to retire the next 12 batters he faces. After that he gives up, essentially, 5 straight doubles. Contreras is a fine pitcher when there is little pressure on him. As soon as the pressure is increased and he has to work from the stretch, he flounders. His whole career has matched this pattern. There is no way I feel confident with him as a starter in the playoffs.
  21. Carlos Beltran probably propelled the astros to the NLCS.
  22. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) Watch the Twins get Hanley Ramirez, now that would be bad. I don't think the Red Sox will trade Ramirez.
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) Interestingly enough Gammons mentioned if someone would take Odalis's contract he'd be available, if Odalis is healthy his contract is very fair, Kenny should look into that. Lowe as well. I was a big advocate of Perez earlier this year when he was a FA. If the trade price is right, I'd trade for him and get his contract. He is only 28 years old. His ERA is over a run and a half higher this year than last year. I think a good defense behind him would make a big difference. His k/9 is the same as last year (around 6) and his control is still good. If his shoulder is fine, I'd be all for trading for him. His contract is only $24 mil over 3 yrs.
  24. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) I couldn't be less confident, that is correct. Top 20 WORST WHIP LIST (Minimum: 60 IP) 1. Vincent Padilla 1.91 2. Al Leiter 1.85 3. Hideo Nomo 1.77 4. Russ Ortiz 1.76 5. Sidney Ponson 1.73 6. Tom Glavine 1.72 7. Jamey Wright 1.68 8. Ramon Ortiz 1.66 9. Darrell May 1.66 10. Chan Ho Park 1.66 11. Jose Lima 1.65 12. Kirk Reuter 1.65 13. Mark Hendrickson 1.64 14. Oliver Perez 1.64 15. Orlando Hernandez 1.63 16. Kevin Brown 1.61 17. Jeff Francis 1.60 18. Jason Jennings 1.60 19. Byung Yung Kim 1.60 20. Eric Milton 1.59 I mean, outside of Jeff Francis and Oliver Perez, all of these guys are really, really bad. Tom Glavine is good.
