  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Before this year started, I estimated how many wins Buehrle can get if he pitches until he's 40 with the same kind of success he's had so far. In the end, it came out to 328 career wins. I doubt he'll get there (especially if he can't beat playoff teams, ha), but it's a nice goal. if he keeps up this pace he will. He has a big advantage because these innings that he throws won't hurt his arm that much because he isn't a power pitcher and has excellent mechanics.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) He just needs to get the same strike zone Maddux gets that will come over time. He has more wins than Maddux does at the same points in their career. We might be seeing something very special with Buehrle if he keeps up this pace.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) Buehrle is a lot more comparable to another Braves star, Tom Glavine. yeah I think he is comparable to both. More so to Maddux though.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) And if you had to pick the pitcher on the Sox staff who's stuff most resembles that of a young Greg Maddux...(possibly throwing with a different arm)...who would that be? Who is Mark Buehrle?
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) He isn't? Besides the hype, he's consistently been better than Prior. And who cares who the best pitcher on the team is? Oswalt isn't the best pitcher on Houston....yet he's still damn good. There's no doubt in my mind that Garland has been our best pitcher this season. Nope neither of them. Greg Maddux. He leads that team in innings pitched, is second in wins, and has started every single game this year. Call me crazy but Maddux also does something else that is key. he keeps his head on straight and doesn't blow up when something goes wrong. Maddux has been their most consistent pitcher this year. He hasn't started as many games as Zambrano this year but i will bet you anything he will lead that team in IP.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) Also...even if you were able to totally disregard the personality issues with Zambrainless, I still wouldn't trade him for Buehrle. plus his physical issues with him being out of shape will hurt his career. Plus he doesn't give you the innings that Buehrle does.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) Yes. There's a much better chance of Zambrano becoming a lights-out ace than Buehrle. Both have thrown a ton of pitches early in their career. Zambrano has that heavy sinker with the great velocity, and even on off nights, he can still keep the ball in the park. Zambrano isn't even the best pitcher on that team.
  8. Buehrle has also done a good job of keeping the ball in the park considering he pitches in a great hitters park.
  9. QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) Which begs the question ... Would you trade Buehrle for Zambrano? No. He has a wonderful arm however he has a 10 cent head and until he matures he will be nothing more than a Mid-Roation starter.
  10. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) Lay off the Kool Aid Kid. I think the point was made HE'S NO ACE. Good pitcher yes. A good number 2, ACE? NOT A CHANCE IN HELL. Giants Ace Jason Schmidt (Hurt this Year) Cubs Ace like it or not is Prior- All of Buehrle's stats are better than Prior's this year. He is much better than Prior IMHO. Angels? Colon and Lackey may say somethign about that- Colon maybe but not Lackey. Red Sox? Schilling has sucked this year but he is an Ace- he has sucked this year. Yanks? Forgot a guy named Randy Johnson- Buehrle has better stats Braves? John Smoltz and Tim Hudson will give ya a ride for your cash Padres? What in the Heck is Peavy. Brewers? Ben Sheets Baby (Of course he got hurt) A's? Barry Zito, but i think he's more in Mark's mold Potential Aces Diamond Backs Brandon Webb Royals Zack Greinke Mariners Felix Hernandez Tampa Bay Scott Kazmir Pirates Oliver Perez Nats John Patterson Tigers Jeremy Bonderman A's Rich Harden Giants Ace Jason Schmidt (Hurt this Year) Cubs Ace like it or not is Prior- All of Buehrle's stats are better than Prior's this year. Brewers? Ben Sheets Baby (Of course he got hurt)- Never won 14 games but is a very good pitcher. Wouldn't take him over Buehrle just yet. A's? Barry Zito, but i think he's more in Mark's mold Potential Aces Diamond Backs Brandon Webb Royals Zack Greinke- He has sucked this year Mariners Felix Hernandez- He is a ROOKIE Tampa Bay Scott Kazmir- Not a great year. Pirates Oliver Perez- He has had a brutal year Nats John Patterson- Huh? He is good because he pitches in the best pitchers park in baseball Tigers Jeremy Bonderman- Again his stats are better. A's Rich Harden- Has never sustained his success over a full season.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) Now that I've calmed down, I probably shouldn't have bumped this thread at the time, but Buehrle has to step up his game. He has pitched very poorly down the stretch and he and Garcia have been a big part of the Sox losing so much of the lead. For our supposed number 1 and 2 starters they sure haven't been pitching like it down the stretch. Also, in response to Josh's post, Buehrle is a very good pitcher and would be a #1 starter on a lot of teams but that doesn't make him an ace. There are very few aces in baseball and up to this point in his career Buehrle isn't one of them. Also, Peavy is better than Buehrle, Buehrle is more durable but thats about his only advantage over Peavy. Also, with Smoltz on the Braves and Pedro on the Mets I would hardly say Buehrle would be a lock to be the #1 on those teams. Same with Zambrano for the Cubs. Buehrle is much better than zambrano. Almost all of his stats are better. He also pitches in the AL which is a tougher league to pitch in. Also I didn't put the mets on that list. Pedro might be the best SP in the NL right now. Right now i would take Buehrle over Peavy. Im a huge Peavy fan though.
  12. Eh i like Mrs. Fields more than Marshall.
  13. Is westbrook in line for the loss or is it Howry's game.
  14. look let's face it there are a lot of teams he would be the ace of: Yankees Red Sox Devil Rays Indians Royals Angels A's Mariners Braves Nationals Phillies Cubs Brewers Reds Pirates Rockies Dodgers Giants Padres Rangers Diamondbacks Tigers Orioles the only teams that aren't on the list are the Cardinals(Carpenter), Twins(Santana), Marlins(Willis), Houston (Clemens). That's pretty damn good in my opinion. Colon is so hit or miss. He will either pitch a gem or suck. Also even though im a huge Peavy fan he hasn't done what Buehrle has for the period of time Buehrle has. Right now Buehrle is on pace for 250 wins in his career. Peavy also pitches in a huge pitchers park.
  15. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) Do you have like a book of useless trivia? I swear in every single post you have some obscure bit of knowledge that no 16 year old should know. You probably hate Damaso Marte more than any other 16 year old too. what can i say im a baseball savant. Ok not really. What this means with Westbrook is though that he has had a decesion in every start except one. You just don't see stuff like that these days.
  16. Westbrook has a chance to something very historic if he loses tonight. I think he will be the first SP since I believe Orel Hershiser with the Dodgers in 1989 to win 15 games and lose 15 games in the same season. Westbrook is currently 15-14.
  17. This is his big test? I know their are a lot of different opinions on Buehrle and whether he is an ace or not. This game should decide it. We need him to shut the indians down tommorrow.
  18. This is exactly why i want Hermy on the mound in the ninth. Also thanks for mismanaging yet again Ozzie.
  19. These pitches aren't even close either. Does Ozzie look at any stats. Like how lefties have hit marte hard this year.
  20. s*** s*** s*** s*** s***! Im sorry but we have won a lot of games inspite of Ozzie this year. Get him out of there Ozzie.
  21. QUOTE(HeGone! @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) Not the way Bobby's been pitching. I know Hermy's been great this season, but with the bad back, they have to go with the guy who gives them a better chance to win, which would be Bobby. like i said im fine with it for the rest of the regular season however once the playoffs hit i want Hermy on the mound in the ninth.
  22. No not in the playoffs. Maybe to save his back for the games in October however Hermanson should be this teams closer.
  23. I think we will do to the indians what the 99 braves did to the mets that year. What happened was the Braves had a decent sized lead in August (i think it got up to 6 games at the most) and the Mets came back and were actually in first a couple of times. A big September series rolled around at Turner Field with the Braves just a half a game up over the surging mets. Well the Braves swept the Mets in 3 games and pretty much ended the division race. Chipper Jones pretty much won the MVP because of that series alone. He had something like 5 HR's in that series. That's exactly what i think will happen in the Sox-Indians Series.
  24. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) Did you just wake up> no he was plugged into the Matrix. We have brought him back into the real world.
