So, is AJ coming to the White Sox?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) The Sox and Marlins are still enough apart for there to be no negotation window between Burnett and the Sox. Levine reported the Sox would be willing to offer AJ 30 million. However, before they can set aside a window for his agent, the Sox and Marlins would have to get closer on a deal. The major holdup is the Marlins would like a veteran starter in return and may have to swing another deal (to get that veteran) prior to (or after) picking up Brandon/Marte. There has also been some talk of Lowell potentially coming. Basically put, there is definately some smoke to this, but nothing imminent. could the Sox spin lowell of to another team for some prospects if they get him. What other team needs a 3rd baseman? -
michael young would look so f***ing good in a sox uniform. he is one of the best in the AL.
-
not sure what ponson would've done for the padres. Well he might've had a good year for them at the dinner table.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) If I'm Burnett, I'm settling for no les than four years. If I'm the Sox, I don't give it to him. I think a no four year policy for pitchers is too cautious when it comes to guys like Buehrle (and Garland in a year and a half from now) but its a good policy when dealing with the Burnetts and Woods of the world. for some reason there is a myth out there that says that the Sox have to sign him to an extension if he is traded. They don't. even if he doesn't sign right away here the sox are fine because it is similar to the garcia situation in that apparently burnett is friends with Ozzie. He was his coach in florida. -
We need a DH bat if Frank doesn't come back
White Sox Josh replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Frank will be back by mid august. Guys calm down about this. He is always gonna have pain in his foot/ankle for the rest of the year. -
I think he will be back by mid-late august. Why not? It's just inflamation. He isn't going in for surgery. Unless something bad happens and the doctor finds a broken bone or something he should be ok. he was never gonna be 100%. This is all precautionary. RELAX! NOTE: I'm not a doctor nor do i pretend to be one however from everything that i have read this inflamation isn't career threatning.

Did you grow up a White Sox fan, since you grew up near Chicago?- Josh How tough was it to come back from the surgery you had?- Josh

QUOTE(southsider17 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) Yeah but Contreras didn't just get off the juice. he was never on steroids. He was overworked by Oakland and than traded. He was totally abused by them and thats why he lost the velocity on his fastball.
-
QUOTE(southsider17 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) Thing is, most modern closers are brought in at the beginning of the 9th. I would think Ozzie is smart enough to not bring Contreras in with runners on. Contreras has consistently been at the top of the league in Batting Average Against. If he could stay away from walks he'll be an excellent late inning reliever. And, yes, I realize that's a big "if". well if you thought Koch made things interesting than you would be in heart attack central with Contreras as your closer.

Who is the most underrated player of all time?
White Sox Josh replied to White Sox Josh's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 11:49 PM) I'll go with Hank Aaron. He was so much more than a home-run hitter, and IMO he goes underappreciated. He was a damn good fielder in his day ( even played some 2B and 3B ) and a solid hitter aside from the long ball. .305 career hitter, even had several 20+ steal seasons, with 240 total steals. Career .982 fielding percentage. Hank was the MAN. Class act under the hateful pressure, and a damn fine ballplayer. i'm not sure if you know this or not but the Giants almost got Aaron but decided not to. Imagine an outfield of Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Bobby Thomson/Monte Irvan. -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) Lopez is not a better prospect than Valido... he is in a higher level currently but isnt a better prospect. wasn't Valido one of the sox players caught for using steroids?
-
I would say that it is Jackie Robinson. I consider him one of the greatest 2B to ever play the game. He had speed, power, and could change a game like no one else could. Everyone talks about he integrated the game but nobody talks about how good of a player he was. While what he did was incredible he is Hall of Famer no matter what. I feel he should be remembered more for what he did on the field while still be remembered for being very courageous. Who do you think is the most underrated player of all time?

QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) Gonzo won't be a rent a player, if he gets traded to the Sox, he'll sign a few year deal. They're not going to accept Uribe because he sucks. IMO Lopez is a SS better prospect than Valido. i like Lopez. I think he will develop some more patience at the plate as he goes along and he can really play defense. He looks like a pretty good player.
-
QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) Nomar is a hall-of-famer. Uribe is a bench player. Nuff said. Not that I'm for going after Nomar because of his injury history and his high price tag, but come on, that statement is bullplop. He is not a future hall-of-famer. No way in hell. I'm sorry but Nomar was hitting in the .100's this year. Not exactly hall of fame material.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) He's a clutch hitter, still decent defensively and he hits for average and power. That's a reason why I suggested it. eh i think he is below average defensively. you could do worse though. Would a guy like Robert Valido be enough for the marlins. maybe something like this: Marlins Get: Robert Valido Willie Harris Damaso Marte Brandon McCarthy White Sox Get: AJ Burnett Alex Gonzalez
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) I think they would want more. I think a mid level prospect would have to be included in that deal. I wouldn't mind the Sox going after him in FA or Nomar. I think Uribe is just a good bench player at this point. Don't go after Nomar. He is overrated. he can't stay healthy and even when he was healthy this year he wasn't better than Uribe this year.
-
maybe just put uribe in the utility role. Send over another guy from the Minors.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) He's decent with the bat, but I agree and would say he's better overall than Uribe. But what incentive would Florida have to trade him for Uribe? because they would also be getting Marte and McCarthy for Burnett and Gonzalez. They really need some relief help badly.
-
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) You must have a different memory then I do because I hardly remember him "getting the job done" when closing games... As for what Hermy... we could be far worse off... he was 8 for 11 in Save Situations before he lost his job. In fact he racked up 7 straight saves before blowing one against Oakland. This was in 04.
-
I was wondering if maybe the Sox could add Uribe to the Burnett deal for Alex Gonzalez. He would look good in a Sox uniform because he is exactly the type of player the sox would want. he is great defensively and is good with the bat.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) Interesting, this could be a big week for the Cubs, if Wood has to go on DL and they fall further behind in wild card, they may be sellers next weekend They obviously wouldn't sell Lee, Prior, Ramirez and a few others, but I imagine Burnitz, Dempster, Perez, Walker, Blanco would have some value as extra pieces to a contending team It would be interesting to see if they make Maddux available, I know his contract was really back loaded so next years $$ are huge for him, Cubs might want to dump that if he does i think there is a good possibility he could go to either the Red Sox or maybe even the Braves depending on the injuries.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) He allowed one hit and that run meant nothing. Nothing to worry about, to be honest you see most closers get hit a bit before they close it down and that's including Wagner or Lidge or Everday Eddie. Hermy's blown 1 save, he's done an awesome job. even Gagne and Rivera make it interesting most of the time. Whoever thinks that they just go in and go 1-2-3 is delusional.
-
I could care less how interesting he makes it as long as he gets the job done. That's why i was actually ok With Koch when he was actually saving games because he got the job done. If you don't like it, don't watch.
