QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 04:41 PM) If Morel executes there, which a major league player should be expected to...then we're all saying how smart it was to trust the game to our great bullpen and nobody's complaining so much. Pineda out for the full season and longer. Tore his freaking labrum on the last pitch of his final rehab outing. Worst possible injury for a pitcher these days. Gavin Floyd to NY? Of course, they also have Pettite in reserve, but Nova's their best starter now. Umm, CC Sabathia says hi

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 02:42 PM) I dunno, I only raise a Q because I sorta wonder whether the definition of a Fluke includes "unable to win your own conference". I guess you could say it doesn't, but since a title is the goal...either way it'd be a disappointment. I think he is reflecting on how many said that the Bulls would be unable to replicate the success they had last season. There was a lot of talk about regression and that they played over their heads last season, that is could not continue. Of course they need to beat the heat in order to validate their #1 seed, but there didn't seem to be much if any regression, especially considering the injury issues that were simply non-existant last season.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 02:00 PM) That's true. I'm not saying a change wasn't warranted or needed. I wanted him to be Sox manager forever, but his tenure was about as long as you'd ever expect in this day n age. I'm just saying I get tired of people taking any topic and turning it into how s***ty Ozzie is (was). Ozzie is a great manager and IMO a funny, seemingly good guy. Who out there can say he's a bad person? Who out there can say he's not at least a "good" manager. I prefer the word "great" but can we all agree on "good guy and good manager?" Before 09, yea, I would agree with that. After he quit on the white sox, let his kid run wild about clubhouse confidential information, and publicly lobbied for a new contract two seasons in a row when his teams were in death spirals...I absolutely disagree that he is a good manager AND good guy, And this doesn't even include his moronic comments about Castro.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) Jordan for Life would disagree with you. He said I freaked out after the loss and loss to Baltimore. So I want the team to win. And I've praised Rios in threads. Yet somehow all of this contradicts "kudos to Robin for singlehandedly preventing Rios from getting a 12 game hit streak" Weird

So, what is the longest consecutive scoreless inning streak by a pitching staff? This will be my jinx question of the gamethread.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) I just never bought into the whole darker side of things. I like my comic book movies to be a little silly. I mean it's about a billionaire who dresses up in a costume and fights crime. Not all comics are silly, despite the premise. People were getting sick of the 60's batman tv show presentation, they wanted to see the Frank Miller graphic novel adaptation. And that's how we ended up with Nolan.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 06:50 PM) Yep. I may be the only person in America that doesn't really care for the Batman movies. Nah, a guy I worked with absolutely hates Bale because of his slight lisp. I never even noticed it until it was pointed out to me. Avengers, TDKR, and Spiderman this summer. And movies in that vein like Prometheus and Total Recall are also coming out in the next two months

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 06:31 PM) I can't decide if I want to see avengers yet or not. I don't really like the comic book movies all that much. I did like Iron Man and thought Thor was ok. Didn't really enjoy Captain America and didn't see Hulk. This summer is gonna suck for you

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 04:54 PM) I actually liked it better than Thor. (if nothing else, the scientist-characters in Thor were really poorly done stereotypes, and I think I'm allowed to focus on disliking that). Natalie Portman was a waste of film time, and her professor was absolutely a poorly made stereotype. Everything Asgard and Thor was awesome, everything else was awful to me. Well, except for S.H.I.E.L.D.

I enjoy this team
I love how all of his arguments start with "ozzie is the best manager ever on the white sox" and finish with "the manager had nothing to do with how the players perform" What exactly makes him the best ever if he has nothing to do with the players performance? Wait, I know! He is judged on his quotes. That has to be it!

i didnt think it was awful, but it definitely left a lot to be desired for me. Mickey Rourke was such a great bad guy and his character was just minimized to the fullest.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) Correct on the Hulks. They were terrible, but I also think the Hulk is a garbage character. To say Captain America was better than Thor is way off. Also, I don't get why people didn't like Iron Man 2. It's a really entertaining action movie. You can't compare an original to a sequel because the original has the back story, which if the character is any good should be the single best stand alone story. Comics aren't made for 2 hour movies. They develop story lines over many issues and weave things in and out like a TV show and you don't have time to do that with a movie. Once a movie character is developed in the original the sequel should be him showing off how bad ass he is, which Iron Man 2 did. But Tony Stark isnt even close to being developed yet from a comic standpoint. there is so much yet to happen in his character, his disagreements with allies like Cap and Thor seem to be woven into the Avengers, but there is a lot more coming. His alcoholism, health(nanotechnology), fights with the government, war machine. Iron Man 2 was decent, but it was fluff. it was a small bridge to the Avengers. You dont like the Hulk, so its hard for me to argue his worth on screen with you. Some characters dont come off as well to others, i get that. I dont understand the disdain for Captain America, I had a Indiana Jones-esque feeling throughout the entire movie, i loved the pace and the growth of his character.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 09:22 AM) I really liked the Norton Hulk movie. The other Hulk movie was really bad. I would have been interested to see Nortons cut of the Hulk. Him not returning to play Banner was a direct result of his disagreements with the editing of the movie. I also enjoyed the second Hulk though, the end fight was awesome. The first one was all over the place, although the fight in the redwoods with the hulked out dogs was pretty awesome

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 08:16 AM) If you get to the end of the season though, he's got a shot at a much bigger deal than that, he'd be sitting there looking at free agency (and a nice $4 million buyout). Its really depends on Peavys comfort level IMO. is he looking to stack money, or is he happy with what he has going and does he want to continue? Lots of "Ifs", my proposal was obviously one of an extremely optimistic guessed result in 2012

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) I guess the question then is...do you think Jake Peavy can stay healthy enough to be worth $23 million over 2 years? This would be a decision I would make hopefully late in the season where I could have some evaluation time with Peavy. Making that deal now would be foolish though, Peavy would have to show me he is back for more than 3 starts.

If I were KW I would say let's take that option and make it into a two year extension. That would pay jake what, 11.5 a year for the next two years? It gives Jake job security and makes the money manageable, and if he actually recovers and has a great year, everyone is happy.
