QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) It's possible they give him $2 million NOT to pitch for them next year and then offer him an incentive-laden contract. Knowing Nathan, he might accept. I'm not sure how wise it would be for them to put all their eggs in the basket of just one potential closer without a back-up plan. BTW, Mr. Capps just blew a 7-4 lead against the Brewers with the Crew now leading 8-7 after trailing 7-0 in the early stages of the game. They're also going to have to decide what to do with Pavano again. And how many Japanese players in the last 5-7 years that have been signed to MLB clubs have actually exceeded expectations? Not many. 2 Ichiro and Nomo. Sasaki was good for a few years in Seattle but he was old when he came over and didnt stay long. Heck, how many have actually met expectations? Daisuke did for a short period of time, but he has really fallen off. Fukudome has been a massive disappointment, Iguchi really was good for the Sox for about a year and a half before he was traded then washed out of the league. A few relief pitchers have been good to decent, but it seems like maintaining any sort of long term consistency has been impossible. Remember how Daisuke had a mysterious gyroball that defied physics? Right.....

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 08:10 PM) Only got to see the bottom of the 9th today, but what a great job by Thornton after Humber continued to be the man. I have such confidence in Beckham's defense now, it's crazy. a pregame graphic stated that Beckham has the best fielding percentage among second baseman. And he proved it multiple times

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) I edited. No big deal. I thought she might've been older. Shack is the one that makes mountains out of molehills. so do you. so forget about it and resume the conversation with William

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) Saturday April 16th, 7-7 record, 3 GB. IIRC they should have been 12-2 or something ridiculous like that

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) One thing I can say for sure is that the 3D in Dark Of The Moon was completely unnecessary. The only part where I felt that it added anything (or even noticed it) was the sky diving scene. I agree, however I think the 3D element was added to take away Bay's shaky camera during action scenes. In that respect I was glad for it

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) Wow, I remember Hum...I have one of their albums buried around here somewhere...I seem to remember it having a zebra on it for some reason or another...I remember green and a zebra... As for the discussion about bands that never made it big, there are just so many of them...I have hundreds of albums by bands that the average person has never heard of, and that even pretty big music people have never heard of... And on a completely opposite note, was mopping the floors in my place and put on Pearl Jam's Backspacer as I have given it a rest since it came out...such an awesome album...the lyrics are really their best in years and years...possibly their best ever. I pray they continue this level of quality with their next album... You'd Prefer an Astronaut. One of my favorite albums, I still listen to it pretty regularly. If you like it, you should give their followup(and last) album "Downward is Heavenward" a listen

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) Best Transformer movie=Tallest Midget? Yes, but I still enjoyed it. It was non stop action start to finish.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 11:32 AM) Do you mean the one who used to be a Decepticon and changed sides? I think they found him in a museum as an SR-71/Blackbird and then he "teleported" them all to Jordan? And he was involved in the final battle as well in Egypt and helps out Optimus with an "assist" of weaponry. No, the one in T3 that looked like Albert Einstein, and gave the soldiers those arm weapons and bombs. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) I've never left a movie theater mid-movie in my life, yet had I not driven my friend (and to a theater 30 minutes away, thanks middle of nowhere Missouri) I would have left 40 minutes in. And then at 1 hour. And then for the next 1.5 hours. I couldn't stand this movie- absolutely hated it. I enjoyed the second one far more than the third- everything just seemed so disjointed. And trust me, I know how just turn my brain off and enjoy a film for what it wants to be... I saw the Expendables in theaters and loved it. head scratcher there. 2 was by far a bigger mess plot wise than 3. It was pretty straightforward for me.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) LOL. So a couple of nice games in a row wash away the 3 months of garbage and multiple games lost because of his poor play? Ok Thats not what he said, he said "should he continue to climb". He isnt forgiving Juan because he had a good 4 games in a row And if he were to revert to a .296 hitter, then hit second half will be amazing. Im not counting on it, but it would be nice

Shockwave and his octopus destruction vehicle were pretty cool in T3.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) The big problem is they can only sell so many guys. They have two massive deals on their books for a really long time. Morneau isnt going anywhere with that contract and his injuries, and Mauer is still the face of the org despite his year. They could possibly sell off Thome and Kubel to an AL contender looking for a LH DH, or Kubel to a NL team looking for a LH outfielder. I dont know how they feel about Young but he is another guy with injuries piling up this year. Liriano is such a hot/cold player for them, I really think they would explore moving him for prospects. Capps is another guy who can go if they feel confident about Nathan rounding back into form.

New blog post about Hawk, "Moneyball," Sabermetrics, etc
Kyyle23 replied to 3GamesToLove's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 12:41 AM) I'd also like to point out that while the Red Sox are a SABR team, they are not run in a Moneyball fashion. The entire point of Moneyball is getting an obtaining assets that are undervalued. The A's haven't forgotten about OBP - no team should - but Coco Crisp would not have been a member of the A's 10 years ago, and he sure as hell wouldn't have 24 steals (Ray Durham is quoted in Moneyball saying something like "In Chicago, you were applauded if you stole a base and applauded if you were caught stealing so long as it was a good attempt. In Oakland, if you steal, you better be safe because you are scolded if you are caught, close or not"). Right now, it seems that defense and doubles hitters are undervalued by baseball. The problem is that the translation of defense statistics (which are very subjective and are somewhat dependent) to actual results varies wildly. There are better ways to track defense, but there is nothing that translates as well as offensive numbers do. Pitching is similar to that as well, but pitching numbers translate too, though ERA can be a bit misleading at times. That is exactly what I thought. The A's were running a tight budget and had to go after low value, high OBP guys. The Red Sox throw money at the best SABR players available. Not quite the same thing. Moneyball didnt win two world series in Boston. Money did -
Going for 4 in a row, the series win, and putting the foot on the collective throat of the Cubs Lets go White Sox. No more comebacks, time for a barnburner/laugher

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 07:30 AM) You mean Ironhide? Yes he was, he's been in in both of the first two. No he wasnt. Ironhide has been a suped up GMC Pickup in all three movies http://www.wallpaperez.info/movie/Transfor...onhide-302.html QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 11:31 PM) You'd be the guy to ask these questions. 1.) Was Ironside the tank in the first one? 2.) Who was the old Autobot that gave the soldiers the weapons he made? 3.) Was Stratosphere even in it? I saw that he was supposed to be, and voiced by Uncle Phil, so I was looking for him. EDIT: Apparently that was the video game. He identified himself as Que in the movie, but on the IMDB it says Que/Wheeljack. He was rather forgettable IMO. Not in a bad way, just kind of there.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 11:16 PM) That was the best Transformers IMO. Yes it was. Bay couldnt resist injecting his patented cheesiness, but good lord was the fighting awesome. My favorite scene was the highway chase when the 3 escalades came after Sentinel Prime

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) Just watched the new Transformers. I feel like I just watched Michael Bay masturbate to his own bowel movement for 2.5 hours. Goddamnit. My head hurts. But damn did some Robots throw down. Hey Marko, I looked for you but couldnt find you

I guess I could handle another Toy Story, they did kind of leave the last movie open for a whole new set of stories. Of course they could also just pick some new toys and voices as well

QUOTE (southsidepride15 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) LOL. I hope you take this as a compliment KyYlE....for some reason I picture your real world self to look much like your avatar on Soxtalk. Rob Van Winkle stole my look in the early 90s. i have that hat, but my jacket is green

i would like to thank bucket of suck and CLEE 45 for declaring the game over in the 5th inning and proclaiming randy wells to be untouchable. without your undying support and unwavering loyalty, the sox never would have made this comeback
