2011 NFL Lockout Thread
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) Not being a smartass here but has there ever been an instance where a player was released after sustaining something that would have been revealed in a blood test? I would actually think that a blood test is part of the physical a player takes and HGH is not tested. With the physical nature of their sport wouldn't it be good to know exactly what the health status is of a player when drafted and signed? I totally agree with this. If a player is found out to have a heart irregularity or a condition such as spinal stenosis at the combine, then they are going to be rooted out and probably will go undrafted as a result. A similar situation was Eddy Curry in the NBA, when the Bulls found out about his heart condition they wanted no part of it and justifiably so. None of these teams want to be the team that is sued because a family member deems them liable for allowing the player to play. When it comes to the health of these players, lets face it, there is not much that is private. It is in the teams best interest to have the knowledge of some sort of a defect in a player before allowing them to potentially kill themselves in an extremely violent sport. A blood test is not going to be invading any more privacy than what these guys go through at the combine. And on top of that, I highly doubt the WADA is going to be testing for anything other than what they are there for, dope in the blood.

And its not saying he hates all mentally challenged people, its not furthering the use of a word that is hurtful and discriminatory, especially using it in the context of insulting a reporter. That not being sensitive, its being a rational empathetic adult. let it go.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) If an athlete or somebody of stature says something that impacts you to that degree ( I don't mean you. People in general) then you need to take a look in the mirror and access what's wrong with you. And another thing: You said most mentally challenged people would take great offense to somebody using that word. False. I know for a fact that most mentally challenged people don't even realize they're mentally challenged. At this point, Im going to respectfully ask you to stop. My cousin lives in Misercordia, and I have worked around these people my entire life in volunteer work. Your facts are being pulled out of your ass, and your comparison to people calling you the N word holds no water in this discussion. It doesnt make it ok if someone calls you that for you to turn around and say other degrading words. This is a basketball forum. This conversation should return to basketball from this point forward.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2011 -> 08:55 AM) I don't think Crawford "mauled" him, I think there was a lot of contact but Rose generated the contact by jumping towards Crawford. Crawford swiped down across Rose's body with his arm as well as getting his body.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 9, 2011 -> 08:43 AM) I don't think we were going to win that game anyway, but he knew it was a foul when he blew the whistle. Everyone on earth knew it was a foul. He chicken s***ted out. and that just blew my mind. crawford mauled rose on that shot, and salvatore walked to the scorers table and was EMPHATIC that it was an inadvertant whistle. oh well, i see the bulls putting a beatdown on the hawks in chicago and closing it out in atl

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 8, 2011 -> 10:36 PM) I don't even think the inadvertent whistle play was actually a foul. The issue (and it's a major one) is that a whistle was blown, stopping play for no reason. Who knows what happens if the play isn't stopped. I agree though, refs had nothing to do with the loss. O RLY? http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nba/news/story?id=6510882 Thats funny, because even Bennett Salvatore thought it was a foul It wasnt the reason they lost the game, but that was a critical non-call at a critical time, and even the ref that made the non-call admitted he screwed up

i do not like Rondo(due to a lot of his little antics in the bulls/celtics playoffs) but i have nothing but respect for what he is doing. His first series back in the game and he catches the ball one handed and dribbles up the court with the arm that was dislocated

regardless of what happens tonite, i think Danny Ainge is going to catch a lot of s*** this offseason for the Perkins trade. Trusting the 0'Neals in the middle for the playoffs was moronic at best.

2011 Films Thread
I dont know if any of you heard about this, but Quentin Tarantino has written a sequel/homage to the legendary spaghetti westerns Django(1966) and Django: Get a Coffin(1968) which starred Franco Nero. These films are the inspiration for many films, including the recent Rango. Tarantino is expected to start putting this movie into production within the next year, and Franco Nero has confirmed he has a part in the film. Will Smith is in talks to be the main character A Smith/Tarantino pairing could be quite interesting to say the least. One other thing, this film(to be called Django Unchained) is going to be set in the old west, the original dealt with the main character as a slave becoming freed. There will be a lot of racism in this film, apparently QT did not hold back much

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 7, 2011 -> 08:57 AM) Yeah, I just got caught up in the moment. Rose had my ass mesmerized. Then I remembered MJ and I came back down a little. However, the 8 point burst out of Rose in the 4th quarter when the Hawks cut it to 11 points was Jordan-esque. Not the whole game, but that two minute span when he said "Nope, STFD"

QUOTE (Felix @ May 7, 2011 -> 12:40 AM) It's really laughable how defensive you guys are. But hey, Rose had a fantastic game. Congrats. I was really just goofing around. Look, I realize that Paul is a really good player, we discussed some of this in chat a few weeks ago. Rose has a few flaws in his game that he is obviously working on, and even with those flaws he ended up being MVP. The sky is the limit for him at this point in his career, and that is exciting for the fanbase after the Floyd/Cartwright/VDN and end of Skiles years. It is just as aggravating for some of us when we get excited about a great game or burst and someone says "Yeah well he isnt as efficient as Paul" as it is for people like you(fans of other teams) that interpret our excitement as "ROSE IS THE BEST EVER AND THAT IS THAT!". Plus, there are a lot of condescending remarks on both sides that make it worse(which admittedly I have been a part of). At this point, in this season, IMO Rose has been far and away a better player than Paul. Over their careers, Paul has been much better. Their circumstances are different, their coaching is different, and their surrounding personnel is different so there is no definite answer to who will ultimately be the better player over the course of their careers. Because I am a Bulls fan, of course I will put my money on the hometown hero everytime, with no shame.

Took me about 32 seconds to realize it can't. Anyway, epic game. Nothing wrong with that. MJ is the best player to step foot on a court. Rose has his own legacy to define

The Lakers to me just look like they expected it to be easy, and Pau is playing extremely soft which isnt helping things at all. The Mavs are just playing run and gun and the Lakers just cannot keep up with them at this point in the season, they are gassed. Strangely enough, the Lakers and Spurs look extremely similar in how their series are playing out, a step slow and expecting the other team to let them do what they want. It surprises me, Phil Jackson is usually pretty good about not allowing his teams to play like that. When it comes to the Mavs playing the Bulls, of course I think the Mavs could give the Bulls problems, but I think the Bulls youth and defense is a much better matchup against the Mavs. Of course if Dirk goes off and is completely unguardable, all bets are off.
