  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) Didn't Carlos start killing the ball at this time last season too? I remember him going on a huge tear before the ASB and then going back to being bad after getting hurt against the Angels. I think the difference is last season he started off slow, got really hot, then got hurt and was mediocre the rest of the season. This season(so far) he started off really hot, cooled off a little bit, and now is starting to get back to where he was at the beginning of the season. If he stays healthy this year I think we are going to have another 08 type season out of CQ
  2. From Lee Elia, Chicago Cubs, Manager, in April, 1983 (before Wrigley Field had lights for night baseball), following a home loss to the Dodgers and in front of writers and microphones: "F*ck those f*ckin' fans who come out here and say they're Cub fans that are supposed to be behind you, rippin' every f*ckin' thing you do. I'll tell you one f*ckin' thing, I hope we get f*ckin' hotter than sh*t, just to stuff it up them 3,000 f*ckin' people that show up every f*ckin' day, because if they're the real Chicago f*ckin' fans, they can kiss my f*ckin' ass right downtown and PRINT IT. They're really, really behind you around here...my f*ckin' ass. What the f*ck am I supposed to do, go out there and let my f*ckin' players get destroyed every day and be quiet about it? For the f*ckin' nickel-dime people who turn up? The motherf*ckers don't even work. That's why they're out at the f*ckin' game. They oughta go out and get a f*ckin' job and find out what it's like to go out and earn a f*ckin' living. Eighty-five percent of the f*ckin' world is working. The other fifteen percent come out here. A f*ckin' playground for the cocks*ckers. Rip them motherf*ckers. Rip them f*ckin' cocks*ckers like the f*ckin' players. We got guys bustin' their f*ckin' ass, and them f*ckin' people boo. And that's the Cubs? My f*ckin' ass. They talk about the great f*ckin' support the players get around here. I haven't see it this f*ckin' year. Everybody associated with this organization have been winners their whole f*ckin' life. Everybody. And the credit is not given in that respect. Alright, they don't show because we're 5 and 14...and unfortunately, that's the criteria of them dumb fifteen motherf*ckin' percent that come out to day baseball. The other eighty-five percent are earning a living. I tell you, it'll take more than a 5 and 12 or 5 and 14 to destroy the makeup of this club. I guarantee you that. There's some f*ckin' pros out there that wanna win. But you're stuck in a f*ckin' stigma of the f*ckin' Dodgers and the Phillies and the Cardinals an all that cheap sh*t. It's unbelievable. It really is. It's a disheartening f*ckin' situation that we're in right now. Anybody who was associated with the Cub organization four or five years ago that came back and sees the multitude of progress that's been made will understand that if they're baseball people, that 5 and 14 doesn't negate all that work. We got 143 f*ckin' games left. What I'm tryin' to say is don't rip them f*ckin' guys out there. Rip me. If you wanna rip somebody, rip my f*ckin' ass. But don't rip them f*ckin' guys 'cause they're givin' everything they can give. And right now they're tryin' to do more than God gave 'em, and that's why we make the simple mistakes. That's exactly why. "

i have also read that this is a cross between E.T. and Close Encounters, which makes total sense with Spielberg involved. The story surrounding the boy who is making the film is supposed to be the central story, with the Alien escape being the secondary story

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) I was having a conversation with Karko's Throatskin about this film a few days ago. He, like many of the critics/reviewers, is very excited to see this film. For some reason, I don't want to buy into the hype. I get this impression that it's going to be one of those movies with an awesome premise and then a total let down when you realize/see the 'cause' of everything. Examples I gave were The Happening and The Langoliers (bad TV miniseries in the mid-'90s based on a Stephen King novel). I imagine this film won't be in the category of awesomely bad like those two but in the same vein of disappointment. Anyone else get this feeling that the 'great reveal' is going to be a let down? No, I dont think there will be too much behind the great reveal besides the actual look of the escaped creature. I dont see it as a M Knight type twist that will leave you groaning in your seat. I have read rumors that this is the escape of the Cloverfield monster, which i think would be pretty cool. Im excited to see it, Abrams and Spielberg together sounds like a damn good pairing to me
  5. the no-hitter has been a harbinger of doom for the sox in the last 6 years, i wouldnt mind if that was passed to the twins
  6. ah yes, that is also awesome news. im pretty stoked about ridley scott directing "Prometheus". apparently the Xenomorphs will be pretty crazy in this movie, which should translate pretty well into a game
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) Wii U has been announced as the lead version of Darksiders 2. It doesn't get any more "core" than that. Mark Rein also said similar things about the new alien game and said how amazing the unreal engine works with it. Sounds like Nintendo knows what they're doing from what we've seen there have been rumors that crystal knights is working on a sequel to Eternal Darkness too, if that happens i will be ecstatic. this new alien game, is it going to be another Conduit sequel?
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) No, I buried it for the core market. This thing well sell like hotcakes. Doused syrup mixed with ambrosia. But to the core market? History is telling me that not many developers are gonna make multi-platform games, with relatively similar controls for 360 and PS3, then new ones to take advantage of the iPad. History tells you that? You are acting like nothing has ever changed in the console market. Nintendo may have focused on the lighter side of gaming through the gamecube and wii, but they are still a pretty heavy hitter. Im sure developers will jump at the chance to put a title on Nintendo, whatever it may be. Now that the controller has come back to something a little more like a normal controller(scheme wise, minus the touch screen) and it isnt so focused on the motion aspect I think we will see some more titles that core gamers will appreciate.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) Ok, I stand corrected. But look at those. Arkham Asylum...the game is old. Assassins Creed U? Whenever the consoles name needs to be in there, its going to be a different version. I'm expecting something similar to "Madden" on the Wii. A dumbed down AC. well, it has an entire year before it hits the shelves, so i am going to sit back and see what happens. you have buried it based on speculation
  10. darksiders 2 and arkham asylum were also announced for WiiU, as was Lego Stories which is sounding like a MMORPG
  11. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) Kool-aid is delicious when it's 95 degrees out though. seconded
  12. I just read IGN's breakdown of the Nintendo conference, they had some pretty high praise for WiiU, especially the controller. They said it looks bulky and awkward but in reality it is pretty light and feels comfortable in your hand. I just cannot imagine those things being cheap though.....
  13. Lulzsec hacked Nintendo's servers just to show that they could do it. they didnt get any customer info, they just got a file and showed it off
  14. this mike wilson guy reminds me of glenallen hill and marcus thames when he swings
  15. if i had a wikipedia account i would be editing lillibridge's entry right now to let everyone know of his legendary status
  16. Everytime I think this guy has f***ed up more than anything possible, he goes and does something else http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6631663 And the denial, it is just amazing that he can just continue to deny the reality of the situations he puts himself in

  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) So how come nobody is complaining about Dallas getting all the calls tonight? personally i do not find that worthy of a complaint
  20. lebrons pregame speech for the camera was nicely scripted by maverick.....
  21. /waits for Swisher trade complaint
  22. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) While Soriano is obviously overpaid and sucks defensively, he at least has been above an .800 OPS all his years with the Cubs but one. Obviously that doesn't justify his long-term deal at an incredibly high amount, but he still has been a productive offensive player. He is an extremely streaky offensive player, good and bad. Yes, he produces much better than Rios, but when he is on a cold streak, his defense makes him just as worthless. At least with Rios he still is a very good defensive player. They are kind of Yin and Yang, when you think about it
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) For non pitchers, is it safe to say Rios has one of the top 5 immovable contracts? right now absolutely. Chicago has two of them with Soriano and Rios.
  24. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 08:34 AM) Just a quick question: Could this have waited until an interleague series? doubtful considering he was having problems swinging the bat when the bone chip got lodged in his wrist.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) I really loved hearing Hawk say that, because it is exactly correct. I just wonder if Rios is the guy that needs to be replaced right now. I am still not convinced. As for Hawk and Stone, do you notice how rude Hawk has been to Stone recently? I can recall 3 times now where Hawk has made a statement, such as last evening: "Victor Martinez is probably the best protection Miguel Cabrera has had since he's been in a Tiger uniform, and possibly, since he's been in the Major Leagues." Stone sought to add to Hawk's point by saying "And he's a switch hitter as well." At which point Hawk immediately interrupts him and says "Well THAT'S WHY I SAID HE's THE BEST PROTECTION! Because HE IS a switch hitter." Then Stone just goes silent for about 30 seconds. This has occurred a few other times as well recently, in very similar scenarios, where Hawk makes a bold statement, Stone tries to add to the statement by saying something that is actually factual and important, only to have Hawk then interrupt him and claim the point Stone made is exactly why Hawk said what he did in the first place, which couldn't be further from the truth. Seems like something is going on between them. It wouldnt be the first on-air partner that Hawk had a tiff with. But if Stone leaves because of Hawk, it will gain a hell of a lot more attention than DJ or Wimpy.
