QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 06:52 PM) So if you're a player and you take some substance that might contain something on the banned list, you get 50 games and tarred and feathered for life. If you're a manager and do a little blow, you get no penalty? Why did they give him a drug test in the first place if there is absolutely no consequence for failing? No rehab, no suspension, no nothing. I'm pretty sure most people employed where drug tests occur probably wouldn't get off as easily if their test had the same result. He offered his job up immediately and the Rangers said they wouldnt make him resign. You are right though, totally crazy rules for PEDs vs recreational drugs.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) That would be great, actually. I wouldn't mind seeing some kind of "off-season" for the older guys, to rest their old bones and give some new guys a shot on the major shows. Not sure how paranoid guys would be about "their spots", but as a viewer I'd like to see something new. They have to do something with the NXT crew, and they have to see what they have in some of the FCW guys as well. It makes sense, it(after Mania) is when you see the most guys in WWE take off time, we already know Taker and HBK are taking time off, they have been talking about Cena having a herniated disc for a while now, Orton has been on TV for a long time without a break, Stephanie is having another baby so HHH will be taking time off soon and recently WWE dropped a lot of dead weight off their roster. I could see it happening.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) I stand by my criticism of pixar raping itself in two successive films. Had they been lampooning some other cultural touchstone I wouldn't take issue with it, but it was at best two production teams that didn't communicate, and at worst a rare example of pixar being lazy. That is what I'd like to see them avoid - lazy, uninspired filmmaking. And so far they have done a remarkable job of it. Re, the Godzilla comparison. I love the franchise because it got so campy and low rent and that was part of my childhood. There is no question in my mind that the reputation and legacy of the original film has been dameged by decades of shoddy remakes. So, if the goal in serializing pixar's best work is to provide camp fodder for a new generation of kids, then let the subpar sequels fly. I may be selfish here, but my hope is that the amazingly rare phenomenon of a flawless big screen track record that is pixar remains intact. I just done see how sequel for a movie ruins this track record. What if Brad Bird meant the Incredibles to be a 3 story Arc, and the Moleman was leading into it? With the game tie-in, it is possible

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) I loves me some bad Showa era Godzilla installments, that is true. But not one of them can hold a candle to the 1954 original (the version without Raymond Burr spliced in, thank you very much). The beauty of Incredibles and the way it ended, with the Underminer (the Mole Man parody) showing up and the family going into battle mode, was that it let the viewer know that this family of superheroes is out there fighting the never-ending comic book battle against the baddies. That those adventures are not chronicled for us in sequel upon sequel (akin to month after month in the comic world) doesn't diminish the satisfaction of imagining they are out there doing battle somewhere on our behalf. The Monsters Inc. talk brings up a key criticism of mine regarding Toy Story 2. The airport baggage conveyor belt seen was totally derivative of the Monsters climax scene with all the bedroom doors on the conveyors. Pixar ripping itself off. That's the lack of original ideas that I'm afraid the sequels could devolve into if they go that route. You didnt quite answer my question though, you LOVE your godzilla movies. Lets say you were a kid/teenager when the original Godzilla came out. Would you think "I hope they dont make another. This is great, dont mess with perfection."? Its all in the eye of the beholder. Personally I like reading books/comics/watching movies that continue on with a character or storyline. I want to know what happens next. And I am sorry, but your Monsters Inc/Toy Story 2 criticism is kind of weak. There have been plenty of movies that have made fun of the mysterious behind-that-door baggage service at airports. The story in itself didnt rip anything off, maybe they did use a similar idea in one scene, but overall the movies arent very similar.

QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) Exactly, WWE is fire right now, even im semi-enjoying its product. I have no idea what's going on on TNA but I know they wont revert to complete s*** in a month or two like the WWE will. Why not just wait a month, then boom hit it hard ! Im actually thinking after Mania, when a lot of the superstars take time off, we will start seeing the NXT guys in the mix and some of the callups that everyone has been hearing about like Dibiase and Hennig and the Hart kids. I actually am looking forward to that.

FlaSoxx, would you be happy if they stopped making Godzilla movies after the first one ever made?

I didnt see the Incredibles as a movie that was supposed to be funny as much as an action adventure.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) They are also making a Cars 2 (coming out next year) which is the first Pixar movie I'm not really looking forward to. But they are also releasing an original movie in December of next year as well. I wasnt a fan of Cars either, but that movie made some money. Aside from the 461 mil in gross revenue, I found this on the wiki for the movie: Maybe Pixar knew Cars was one of their lesser efforts, so they are letting Disney bastardize it for the profits

I think that Pixar has been good enough about releasing original films in a timely manner that they can be afforded a sequel to a franchise. Lets be honest, Toy Story as of right now is the only movie they have done a sequel for, and even though you percieve it as a somewhat cheap knockoff of the original, it could of stood alone and would have been just as successful(IMO). we just had another movie to compare it to. Pixar also has been somewhat vocal in being against the Disney-ification of their originals into sequels, and I think that was one of the main rifts that they had when Disney and Pixar briefly went their seperate ways. There are a few movies that i think they could make into franchise vehicles that could be fun and not watered down(The Incredibles, for one), but I think they will maintain their stance on sequels for the foreseeable future.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) Their mistake. I don't think Depaul and think major school/power conference. That may be their mistake, but a bigger mistake would be sticking someone who is a good midmajor but bad major conference coach at the top. Depaul needs to think big or they will remain the perennial bottomdweller in the big east. Hopefully when they think big, they think big and round and hire Chris Lowery

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 11:20 AM) Pretty clear he's calling Depaul a mid-major :-). If they were still in a midmajor conference, I would agree. But they decided to play with the big boys

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) Yeah, despite the fact that I think the film totally missed the point of Sendak's masterpiece, I do think teh film succeeds on a lot of other levels. I dont think the film totally missed the point of Sendaks book, I think it expanded on it and made the story slightly different so that a 10 page childrens book can be told in a 1 1/2 hour film.

Unis
QUOTE (typewritermender @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 11:22 AM) I'm utterly shocked that EVERYONE loves this uniform. Did you guys all drink the same koolaid? To me it (specifically the black alt) doesn't look classic at all. It looks extremely nineties when having a black gang uniform was cool. The away grays I don't mind. The home pins are indeed classic--but that's just cause they're pinstriped and bland. What about the old navy & white with the "C" hat? What about the light blue & red? I think these were all good looking uniforms. I mean our colors are BLACK and WHITE. yawn. I'm NOT saying go crazy and add rainbow stripes. I'm not even advocating the sock in the infield logo , or the batter with the SOX under him. Just something NEW. And that NEW can even harken back to something OLD for all I care. Anyway feel free to close this discussion because EVERYONE seems to disagree with me, which is very bizarre. Just thought we could talk about what might be next. But that clearly won't happen You dont think the unis look classic, but they clearly borrow from many of the past classic(some hideous) uniforms in the best way possible, that is the bizarre thing here. You dont want rainbow stripes, socks in the logo, or the old batter man in the logo, but you want something new. What do you want? They should not change the color scheme, considering they are the white sox, and not blue green purple or yellow socks. Im glad they are staying with what they have. There are some classic uniforms(Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, Cubs, Kansas City, Twins, Reds, Cardinals) that have all gone through very minor variations and they still look great.
