Bulls do not hire Doug Collins as head coach
Kyyle23 replied to thedoctor's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Alright people, Doug Collins in one hand, Flip Saunders in the other -
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) I know that was probably sarcasm, but there's no way JR/KW would pony up $22 million for 1 year for Barry, especially not at this time with all the charges. If Bonds is sitting around waiting for someone to throw him that kind of money, then he better throw his retirement party now.

I would love for Coop to get a shot at Greinke if he ever became available. If that kid was in any organization other than the Royals, I think he would be a dominant force by now. This is the time if there is any for the White Sox offense to get healthy, The Royals are coming off a pretty long losing streak. Tonite I am predicting a 4-2 White Sox victory

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) I just saw something amazing. Twins had a guy on 3rd with 1 out, and they Delmon Young got him in with a hit the other way. Unreal. that is amazing. Delmon Young hasnt been able to do much of anything this year

http://www.redlasso.com/ClipPlayer.aspx?id...9f-0546c2b52336 Here is the last round of Kimbo vs Colossus. Decide for yourself on Thompsons face push and Kimbo's stamina. Kimbo threw a couple of haymakers that i didnt notice

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) Agreed. Also, I think people are making a bit too much of the 'hitting the ref' thing. He was frustrated, it was an immediate reaction, and it was more like a disdainful push than a punch. I'm not saying it's okay to do that sort of thing, but I don't think he was thinking of hurting the ref. definitely not a punch, it was an open fingered "push the face away" type deal. There was no swinging involved, Thompson was still trying to get his bearings when it happened And to Drunkbomber, I agree with the "Colossus fighting the ref" comment, but I definitely think that Kimbo was just about done when they stopped the fight.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Roger that. Exactly my thoughts. I like the "baseball card" analogy. Here's one that my co-worker (Cub fan but baseball nut) floated: why not make Harold Baines the hitting coach? I mean, the guy could definitely HIT so it's not that crazy--or is it? Thoughts? Who knows. Some people think "Those that can, do. Those who cannot, teach". Others believe that people who are the best at hitting should be the teachers. Ultimately its up to Ozzie to decide what he wants out of his hitting coach and who he wants to be the coach

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) Huh? How is that an argument to trade Floyd for a secondbaseman, who Cooper wouldn't be coaching? Or are you saying that after you trade Floyd, you go out and do another trade, for a "cheap" pitcher? I took it as PD was taking for granted that Coop can fix pitchers, so why not sell high and buy low since he can fix others.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) I would agree with your logic if we didnt have a pitching coach known for turning around the careers of guys we acquired cheaply via trade. thats something you can appreciate, but you should never count on it. As soon as you start to expect Don Cooper to do that every time, you are going to start getting disappointed.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) I just didnt like this part : Trying to make it sound like Kimbo was too tired to continue and Colossus tried to fight the ref for unfairly ending it. I dont understand what you didnt like, thats exactly what happened
-
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) He didnt know what was going on at all. You could see it in his face, and like you said he hit the ref in the face. Kimbo, not being the most polished competitor, was throwing some punches that if he landed on a guy in a daze like he was, really could have hurt him. That fight was over. According to yahoo today it was fixed though. http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news;_ylt=Aned...o&type=lgns Good read

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) Unless team chemistry can improve bat speed, then who cares if they're getting along or not? Rowand would make them all get along and improve batspeed. And cure cancer and solve world hunger Cintron would be Robin to Rowands Batman

Sign Bonds, watch him go to Jail. That would be awesome

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) Ozzie could do a couple things - fire Walker, and shift the order around. The former is, at this point, probably a good idea. The latter may or may not help, but probably doesn't do a lot. As for the roster, there are actually a few small things that could be done, and that may provide a little spark. Here is what I'd do, now that Uribe is ready to come back... --Send Wise back down to AAA --DFA Ozuna --Bring back Uribe as a backup infielder, righty PH and defensive replacement (Ramirez to start 2 out of every 3 games or so) --Bring up Chris Getz, to get a lefty bat on the bench (and Getz can play basically all the positions Pablo does) --Start playing Anderson as the de facto starter in CF --Put Swisher, Thome and Konerko as a rotation at 1B/DH. Sit Thome against LHP, DH Konerko and 1B for Swisher. Against righties, mix it up, but keep Thome in. --Once one or two of those three bats comes back to life, move Swisher back to CF. --Also, if PK starts having major problems with his hand/wrist, put him on the DL for 30, and call up Eldred, and continue that rotation. So, there are actually some things that could be done that may help out the offense. They are at least worth a shot, IMO. DFAed when Uribe was activated. At least that was on the ESPN ticker

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) Orton is out for awhile. They ended the match out of nowhere. Did a bump where he went for an RKO and HHH countered by throwing him over the top. Orton came right down on his shoulder. They think he broke his collar bone. Looks like its confirmed now http://rajah.com/base/node/12631

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) I'll believe it when I see it. I've heard Uribe was gone twice and nothing happened, most noteably. He said the same s*** after the Blue Jays series too. Now we may change the lineup again, but the reason it worked so well last time was Quentin has been great and A.J. got hot. Another change is just shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic right now, and I doubt we'll see actual roster changes with this veteran group. Glad to see Ozzie is pissed off at least. He should be. Didnt he say he would NOT change things after the Toronto series? I dont remember him saying anything like this yet, especially not in regards to Walker losing his job

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) He was certainly loopy, but considering the quality of punches Kimbo was throwing at the time and the significant leeway Kimbo was given at the end of round 2, Thompson deserved better. agreed, it was definitely favoring Kimbo

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) I've personally while watching MMA have never seen a guy with a swollen ear like that period. I still don't understand why him bleeding from it would of caused the stoppage, especially while he was still coherent. To all of the MMA fans here, do you prefer the way PRIDE went about things in regards to fighter introduction, etc. or do you prefer the way the UFC does it? Concious? Yes. Coherent? Debatable. He took a couple of really good shots at the end there, he looked like he was more than a little bit loopy. He even pushed the refs face away when he was being restrained, he didnt look like he knew where he was for a second

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 01:54 AM) Thompson's ear looked so gross before and after the fight. Made me cringe everytime they showed it. Is it normal for a fighter to come to the ring with something like Thompsons swollen ear, where it would cause an immediate stoppage? I dont know why Kimbo didnt hammer on his ear from the outset and finish him quick. A couple of things about the fight(admittedly from a novice viewer): Kimbo Slice: Kimbo wasnt all that good in his ground game, however he did squirrel out of a couple of pins, and I thought when he did it was pretty impressive. IIRC, he was completely pinned and completely reversed it on Thompson basically by sitting up and pivoting his hips, which I thought was quite the feat of strength. However, Thompson pinned Kimbo against the fence and repeatedly elbowed kimbo on top of his squeaky clean noggin for the last 2 minutes of the second, round, and that was pretty ugly. James Thompson: I really couldnt believe he was allowed to step in the ring with his ear swollen like a peach. I was even more surprised that his own team didnt at least try and drain it before the fight or something. When he was introduced to the crowd you could see the target that Kimbo was going to look for. Robbie Lawler: He showed flashes of excitement, but he looked really unsure of how to fight Smith the entire fight. The crowd booed the fight multiple times. Everytime he rocked Smith, he just backed off and wouldnt finish the fight, it really seemed like he was afraid of a kick to the head with his approach. Scott Smith: His comments after the fight were hilarious "It was a good fight. I think i broke my right foot" But the ending of this fight sucked, and everyone in the ring knew it. Phil Baroni: Can anyone say Disco Inferno? All I can say is if you are going to enter the ring like that, you better bring the thunder. Villasenor schooled him. Joey Villasenor: never heard of this guy, but I liked watching him fight. Gina Carano: Im in love. Seriously, this is the hottest female combatant I have ever seen, and its gonna be a sad day when she meets her equal in the ring, and gets her pretty face all blown up. She looked really out of shape and winded, but when she finally started putting the hammer down, Young's face opened up like the red sea. Kaitlyn Young: She also got winded and it cost her the fight. For a quick second I thought she was going to take this fight, then her hands went down and Carano unloaded on her. Brett Rodgers: Didnt care for him or his off-center mohawk, even though he won. Although it was funny to see Big Black in the background posing Jon Murphy: Didnt look like he was only chasing 3 pounds to Rodgers. In fact, he didnt look even close to the same size. He took quite a shot to the jaw

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 01:40 AM) Yes, its a different team, and yet....the exact same results so far...the comparisons, while seemingly unwarranted, are definitely noticeable. Offensive philosophy the problem? Aging power hitters who don't adjust? A s***ty hitting 'instructor'? I don't know what the cause of all the offensive mediocrity is, but the struggles from 2007 that everyone kept saying "Don't worry, they'll start hitting soon enough", are painfully visible this year, with a 'completely different team'. Why do we have to only compare to 2007? I mean, wasnt the pitching dominant and the offense pretty pathetic and homerun-driven in 2005? Why is 2007 the default comparison? Mind you, I dont want to compare this team to any previous team. While the core is the same, there are many different players on this team that will affect the outcomes of games. Players not named Andy Gonzalez, Ryan Bukvich, Andy Sisco, Scott Podsednik, Mike MacDougal, and Bret Prinz(ie. players who had way more time on The White Sox major league roster than should have). Every year plays out different. You might see similarities every year from previous teams, but that doesnt mean the team is going to do the same thing.
