C.C. Sabathia
QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) Sources told FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal that the Brewers are offering Matt LaPorta in a proposed deal for C.C. Sabathia. Or at least that's what the Indians are telling other suitors in order to drive up the price. If it's true, then Milwaukee shouldn't need to add much more to the pot. Rosenthal says that shortstop Alcides Escobar could also be involved, but it's hard to imagine that happening unless the Indians sent additional talent Milwaukee's way (Rafael Betancourt? Masa Kobayashi?). Jul. 4 - 1:04 am et If the Brewers pull this off, they should still be in the market for a closer. I wouldnt want to go into any post-season with Gagne in the 9th

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) I'm not going to spend pages arguing this, but Blum single-handedly was responsible for the go ahead run in one of the wins. I'm not sure how he doesn't deserve the lion's share of the credit for winning game 3. I'm not saying Uribe didn't do more for the teams in terms of the overall picture, but I can't think of an individual play that Uribe made that meant more than Blum's HR. I know many will argue the outs in the ninth of game 4 meant more. I agree that they were both incredible plays. I don't agree that we don't win the games if he doesn't make either play. If Blum doesn't hit that home run, I believe it was only a matter of time until houston finally scored. One game. Even if the Sox lose that, its one game. And if the uribe DOESNT make either of those plays in game 4, you can say that there is a possibility of not one but two men on base in the ninth inning of a 1-0 game, with 1 out as the away team. Im sorry, but your argument doesnt hold weight here. uribe's plays in the ninth inning of game 4 are equally if not more important than Geoff Blums one at-bat. Plus, you have to figure in every out that Uribe made in the series, much less the playoffs. he was huge(literally and figuratively) in the entire scope of the post-season that year. A bench player doesnt mean more than a starting SS

Loss
I cant remember the last time I went through a game thread and didnt see "OMG, WE NEED TO BENCH ________ AND _______ NEEDS TO BE DFAed, AND THE SEASON IS OVER" its nice to see "Tough one to lose, nice effort by the pitching." Duchserereereerer was as good as advertised. he moved in and out, changed speeds on all of his pitches, and got out of trouble.

Stone in, DJ out?
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) I'm not sure if there is enough room in a booth for both egos of Hawk and Stone. It should be interesting to see how long it lasts,if it happens. Singleton does a very good job in the studio. It's where he belongs with prepared material at his own pace. He was always a little off beat and slow when reacting to plays on the field. I enjoy Farmer's stories as well as the banter between him and Stone. I will miss the pair. It is much better than what Hawk and stone will be. Hawk was nothing but respectful of Steve Stone when they were paired together last year. He didnt disagree with him, they shared many stories(even stuff Hawk hadnt talked much about before), and he genuinely appreciated what Stone had to offer. Im not advocating that DJ should be let go or reassigned because I do like him, but I dont think that Hawk and Stone would present an ego war problem

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) I would argue Geoff Blum did more than Uribe to secure the series win. When the Sox went up 3-0, everyone knew they were going to win the series at that point. Had Houston won that third game, the series could've gone either way. Granted, the foul ball was a spectacular play, but in the context of the series I don't see it as being particularly crucial. I think it's easier to canonize because it was such a difficult play. What? You would argue that a player who got one world series at bat did more to secure the WS victory than the starting short stop? Im no Uribe backer, but thats insane.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) Uribe did make a couple of great plays to secure that 1-0 win, but I some people seem to be insinuating that were Uribe not our shortstop, we wouldn't have won that game. Yes, he was in the middle of a couple of good plays but I think framing his value in terms of the world series win is a bit much. Well, he is thought of well enough during that series to get a nice fat spot in the memorial out in front of the Cell.

Are we talking about the catcher standing up and squeezing the glove twice at the eyes so the pitcher knows to throw high? Thats bush league? I thought that was standard for a catcher calling for the high heat?

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) I'm still in Carbondale. I swear I spent a lot less than that, so I'm hoping I find some cash laying around my room, but it's pretty depressing to wake up and have about 20 bucks less than you thought you had. Hmmm, sounds like you started at pinch, wandered over to Winstons Bagels, and ended up at Sidetracks. At least, thats how I always ended up spending more than I meant to

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) Best estimates are 1 in 333 live to reproduce, back on the same section of beach. I was thinking as a fundraiser they should have painted numbers on the back and taken bets. There was also concerns about the gulls that were circling. Crabs, Gulls, sharks, rays, fish. Those turtles are in danger as soon as they see the light of day for the first time
