George Carlin Dies
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 02:43 AM) Only shame about Carlin is he had to end on the heels of his March comedy special on HBO. I thought it was atrocious. He literally spent half his routine on religion, and even used a few jokes from previous acts -- (ie, I was a catholic until the age of reason). I was just telling a co-worker that his last special was not even close to what he used to be like, very laid back and not very like him. What a shame. Somebody needs to send a phonebooth back in time to get Rufus

Films Thread
QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) Eh.It was alright I am just done with all these comic book superhero movies. If it wasnt for Batman coming out soon I would say I wasnt going to watch another one in a REALLY long time. Its amazing that New York has atleast 133 f***ing superheros and monsters roaming around.Pick another city Hollywood. Well, Batman is in Gotham and Superman is in Metropolis. And the Xmen are in upstate New York (I think). I love superhero action flicks, I dont mind the sudden surge in popularity. When you get a real stinker nowadays its kind of a surprise, mostly because of how great special effects are now and how much people want better scripts.

Mariotti cowers when writer confronts him at Wrigley
QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) Does anyone watch Chicago Tonight? If anyone does, and saw Mariotti recently rip someone, then there's the tipoff. Thats probably what started the confrontation in the pressbox. Not only did Mariotti rip his coworkers in print, he went on to do it again on television after all of his colleagues went with "No Comment".

Mariotti cowers when writer confronts him at Wrigley
QUOTE (palehose23 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) I wish I could tell you who it was but the rest of the press box was hip to this yesterday. So keep you ears open to ESPN1000 and the Score because someone might talk about it soon. If you think about it, the list of people he ripped in that column wasnt all that big. I dont think Mariotti would call the police on a woman, so Slezak is out, and he has already had documented problems with Telander. I honestly think it was Telander or Cowley, and I am going to lean towards Cowley. We will probably know soon, Mariotti isnt very good about keeping grudges and people he doesnt like out of his columns.

The Importance of Tomorrow's Game
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) I watched the game yesterday with 7 friends, 4 of which were Cub fans. They gloated, just like I would have after a win. It's baseball. You win some and you lose some. Get over it. No, dont you understand, if the Sox dont win then our lives in this town are effectively over. The Cubs fans will be able to gloat and I will be sad and the columnists will talk and civility will come to an end as we know it.

HineyBird poops out another gem
QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 09:51 AM) Mariotti was ripping Ozzie for making jokes about Piniella needing a body double when they filmed a commercial while they went to a modeling agency for Ozzie. Maybe if Mariotti had ever entered a clubhouse or played a sport himself he'd know that that's, uh, jocular fun. It's nothing serious. Ozzie wasn't "ripping" Piniella. He was just BSing a little, and nobody minds that. He has no sense of sarcasm or proportion. And he puts too much grease in his hair. I watched the interview that Comcast aired that Mariotti is pulling this crap from. Piniella was laughing about what Ozzie said and he replied by saying that ozzie wasnt as good looking as himself, but Ozzie did eat less. Ozzie and Piniella were very complementary towards each other and there was no animosity between them and their comments at all. The guy just loves to stir up crap wherever he can. He loves mixing and matching quotes to make it look tense and angry

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 06:58 AM) I dont know why your gloating so much, yes he has performed better as of late but his overall stats are still pretty poor. Last I checked you don't grade a season on just one good month, if even a month. Lets see him keep it up for the rest of the season and hopefully post-season. Why wouldnt you want to gloat about a player on your favorite team doing well? Especially to fans of the same team?

Trade deadline
QUOTE (Fotop @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) Time to float a crazy idea....ichiro? (not sure if this one's been mentioned yet) Think he's virtually untouchable due to the marketability he provides for the Marniers, but if they wanted to REALLY blow that team up and start over you'd think his name would be mentioned, right? He'd warrant a King's Ransom, but he'd certainly be worth it. /endpipedream We have been pipedreaming about this in the Bavasi thread since McLaren was fired this morning

6/19 Game Thread PIT @ CWS, 1:05pm CT
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) Crosstown series means as much as this game does. There is a shot a winning this game not sure what is going to happen over the weekend. Also who has pitched more than one inning in the last four days? That was a sad little inning there. the overall meaning may hold the same, but you can play your sunday lineup vs the Pirates and win. You cant go into a series vs the Cubs with a bullpen on short rest and hope to scrape by. That team can really hit, you need to have all of your bullets

6/19 Game Thread PIT @ CWS, 1:05pm CT
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Get the bullpen up. No use in having 12 pitchers if you are not going to use them. You want to go into the crosstown series with your bullpen on short rest? It isnt as if the Pirates are pitching better. The Sox need to hope Gavin can hold it together for a little while

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) Oh can it, I root for Gavin and think he's actually a good pitcher. However, I don't care if an error was made or not, you can't give up 6 runs to the Pirates (especially the bottom of the order). Werent all of the runs driven in by the top of the order aside from the run scored on the error?
