  1. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 08:49 AM) OLD MAN??? HOW DARE YOU!!! It's true that "my time" was the late 70's and early 80's, but probably my favorite era of wrestling was the Monday Night Wars into the ECW and "Attitude" era. There was just so many fun angles, a lot of guys getting to show their personality and humorous side, and just a lot of variety and competition between three very different companies with very different approaches. Back in the old AWA/NWA/WWWF days, almost all of the main eventers were really solid technical guys. Verne Gagne, Nick Bockwinkel, Billy Robinson, Bob Backlund, Pedro Morales, Dory and Terry Funk, Jack and Jerry Brisco, Harley Race, Pat O'Connor and many many more. In those days nobody scoured Muscle Beach for performers, they almost always came from the amateur wrestling ranks. The downside of that is many of them didn't have the mic skills or flashiness most guys had and have since. Thus the need for aging wrestlers who could talk well to become managers. I think Flair's career would be enhanced by becoming a heel manager, and it would help guys who can't work well on the mic. Flair talking so Batista and Orton don't have to??? Count me in!! I know Ric doesn't have to do anything after Sunday and his legacy is solid, but if he wants to stick around it would be great for the business to keep him in a prominent role. I haven't seen LCR around here for quite some time. That surprises me, especially in an election year. He must be too busy with his personal or school schedules. havent seen much of Aboz either recently
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) I dated a girl that literally had to put on makeup to take the dog for a walk, there was makeup all over my condo. My gf now can roll out of bed and look amazing to me. IMO, the hottest girls are ones that look just as good out for dinner than in a jersey tailgating for the game. Of course, now we all need photographic proof of her rolling out of bed now. Hi-res pics please.
  3. LOL, Jay is catching a lot of flak for asking to have the comments section removed from his online column. Apparently he didnt appreciate the comments on his writing. Teddy Greenstein wrote about it: The guy just loves to rip people and hates to be ripped on. The comments in Couchs column are humorous
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) The View: Hasselbeck Equates Rev. Jeremiah Wright with Jeffrey Dahmer Elizabeth Hasselbeck has to be the prettiest dipsh*t in the world. Every time she opens her mouth on that show something stupid comes out. I still think it was funny when her and Rosie got into that argument, when the next guest Alicia Silverstone came out, she completely and obviously walked around and away from EH ang gave everyone else a hug
  5. Im going to remain my usual optimistic self and say the Sox go 92-70 and surprise everyone. Slam me if you please, I dont really care to argue, I just would rather hope that they are going to do well than dwell on thinking that they are gonna suck. I have a similar feeling to this year that i had in 2005, i dont know whats going to happen, but I dont have a sinking feeling about the season like I did last year.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) I have read the riftwar saga as well, and I thought they were quite good. I thought Sethanon got a bit too heavy in its borrowing of Tolkienesque themes and how the ultimate evil could only be stopped by a couple of unlikely heroes, etc., but I liked them. I wont say that they are on the same level as Tolkien, because you are absolutely correct that there is some borrowed themes. my point was actually in regards to Fiest being able to create entire races/cultures/languages/politics within a book. If someone tried to conquer those books in the same manner that Peter Jackson did LotR, I think the movies would be phenomenal. JMO

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) Agree completely on LOTR. The films were really good and all, but the books are among the best fiction the 20th century has to offer. I don't think anybody will ever be able to pull off what Tolkien did — creating not just entire worlds, geographies, histories, and mythologies, but actually going so far as to build entire functional languages based on his expertise as an ancient language academic scholar. I make a point of re-reading the books every few years and I'm always completely blown away by what he was able to accomplish. I actually feel the same way about Raymond Fiests Magician/Riftwar books. If you havent already, you should check them out. Starting with "Magician:Apprentice"

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) Watched Tsotsi last night. Nice little flick about a thug in Johannesburg that discovers a baby in the back seat of the car he had stolen. Nice cinematography and an emotional story. Would recommend to anyone who doesn't mind subtitled films. Did I recommend that to you a few months ago? I put it on here as a recommendation and someone told me they were putting it on their netflix queue. It is a good movie, it makes you think about what happens in some of the less fortunate parts of the world.
  9. Report: Dolan prefers to keep Isaiah as Head Coach Zeke has pictures of Dolan. He has to.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) I am agreeing with you, and questioning Steve... "I see", said the blind man.....
  11. I had a buddy wake up one night, open his 3 disc cd player, spit in the carousel, close it, press play, and go back to sleep. He also opened the door to the hall and threw up in the hall as opposed to opening the next door which was the bathroom. That was a special day. Schneider Hall floor 7 smelled so bad.
  12. Its strange that Canseco considers himself the epicenter of the steroid scandal, and if he didnt know about it, it probably didnt happen
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) I don't ever remember Josh being annointed the starter either... Do you have a link? reread my post, I said that Joe would be the starter if he was here, not Josh
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 07:54 AM) I must have missed that. No kidding. Last checked, KW said if Joe is here, he is starting and Fields will be in AAA. Which is exactly what happened.
  15. Hmmmm, I worked at a radio station in southern illinois(Rowand44 probably listens to it), and my friend had a show on Valentines Day, but we were single at the time. So my friend told me to grab two cases of beer and come in with my other roommate. We got wasted and told stories about ex's. My ex girlfriend and I had just broken up and I was still a mess, so i got hammered and started telling stories, pretty explicit stories, about us. Everyone who knows us knew exactly who I was talking about, and she called my boss and tried to get me fired, and it almost worked. I am usually pretty good about not getting into too much trouble when i am drunk. Although, the summer I turned 21, me and my roommate turned into bar kleptomaniacs. If it wasnt nailed to the wall, we would figure out a way to get it home. We took bar steins, concert posters, those big plastic posters for drink specials, drink strainers, everything. We never got caught, but one day we just stopped
  16. I just watched a clip of an interview of Canseco on ESPNews, and he said that when he watched Clemens before Congress, he thought that Clemens looked honest and sincere. Was he watching the same press conference I was watching?
  17. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) Damn nongreen users and your mind tricks. Seriously, read what I wrote. Was green really necessary DB? I think not
  18. QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 08:46 PM) Is it wrong to hope for them to lose the rest of their games? I wont hold it against you. I promise. If it speeds up the end of the season, I am all for it. 2006 was pretty disappointing for me in terms of the White Sox not going back to the playoffs, but at least they were competitive. This bulls season blows 2006 out of the water. I dont know that I expected them to match what they did last year, but i thought they were going to compete. this team just gave up, and that is sad. Do you think Paxson would part with the same pieces asked for in the Kobe deal now?
  19. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 06:44 PM) Ok, I get what you're saying here, but don't you think you're being a bit naive in thinking that he has never said this stuff before? I mean, it's quite a leap to go from good normal christian sermons to "god damn america" and the white man is the cause of all the black man's problems. I have a feeling he had a pretty apparent viewpoint that was highlighted by these select statements. This is a guy, afterall, that loves Farakhan and forced Opera of all people to leave his church. And I love this argument that "oh, he's just a normal person, he should get a pass for saying something stupid once in his life." I'd like a teacher to tell say such words in their classroom, or a judge, or someone else that we hold in high regard in this society (gloss over the easy distinction of "public" employee...he's still a public figure in society). Trust me, I don't think this story deserved half the attention it recieved, but I don't think it's a stretch at all to say this guy obviously has some pent up hate for whites and the whites that have led/currently lead this country. What does the man have against Opera? Does he fall asleep during the solos? Doesnt like fat ladies singing? Does he hate music as much as america?
  20. Another stellar effort by the Bulls against the 76ers tonite.
  21. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) it's not pretty much only, it is only Yeah, for now. Who knows if they ever want to cash in again and move it around.
  22. Its a shame, but its the world we live in now. Its all about image. She didnt really die on the operating table though
  23. You know, the Sox(Reinsdorf particularly) take a shot in this article for being hypocritical for letting Fernandez walk and signing Albert Belle, but Fernandez' arm completely fell apart after the 97 season, he didnt even pitch in the World Series IIRC, and he only pitched in 64 games from 1997 until he retired after 2000. And that is including taking off the 98 season to recover. However, the return value for McDowell and Raines was inexcusable, I have no idea what Schueler was thinking
  24. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) oh come on, please sell to EA!!! I am dying for the return of MVP Baseball! Wait, does Rockstar/Take Two have the rights to the 2k baseball games?
