  1. QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 01:01 AM) I answered that earlier: Good point, but Prior's decrease in velocity has to do with recovering from injury while Freddy's loss has to do with either A) loss in ability, or B ) stopped taking performance enhancers. Whether it's reason A or B, Prior is much more likely to recover his velocity and even if he doesn't, would still be the better pitcher of the two. Keep in mind, Prior currently has more velocity than Garcia. Ah, i see. More assertions and unproven points.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:59 AM) I still don't understand how Coop is going to magically heal Prior. Coop apparently has magic dust for everyone except White Sox pitchers
  3. QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:56 AM) Your stats don't take into account how Prior would pitch over the rest of the season if he were off the Cubs and on the Sox. I think Prior could benefit from a change in scenery more than any other player in baseball, and the fact that he'd be coming to a winner with a great pitching coach means he'd be likely to perform better than Garcia would. Why is it that Cooper can turn Prior around but not Garcia? Seems like with you the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. And your assertion that Prior would pitch better if traded is unfounded and something that can not be taken into consideration. For all we know Prior could come to the Sox and throw one pitch and blow out his elbow, shoulder, calf muscle, etc.

    Films

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) went and saw pirates 2 this afternoon. it was entertaining. definitely not as good as the first but a good theatre movie still. sucks how they ended it though. disney sees $$$ to be had and is cashing in. also, saw superman returns on wednesday. awesome. would put in my top 5 of all the recent comic book/super hero movies that have been out--behind batman begins, the 2 spideys & the punisher... it had a limited release yesterday (Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Austin & Toronto) and will be released to more markets on the 14, 28 & Aug 4th according to website... well yeah, they filmed PotC 2 and PotC 3 at the same time, so the story is already done. the ending was just a transition. Disney already is cashing in.
  5. Why is it that Cooper can help the Cubs injury-problem pitchers, but he can not help the White Sox pitchers?
  6. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) Cubs fans by far. They are horrible people. I hate their fans so much I just want to punch them in the face whenever I see one. irony at its finest, lol
  7. I am wondering if Mark Shapiro makes it to next season. This was supposed to be the year when the Indians took the next step, and they have massively regressed and are now sliding back into rebuilding mode. This past offseason Shapiro clearly dropped the ball in replacing his departed players. I wonder which players are considered untouchable and which players are on the list to be moved ASAP?
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) Oh baby. Did anyone see the highlights from Baltimore versus Florida, where Cabrera was getting IBBed and swung at one of the balls, lined it into center and drove in a run? God, that's beautiful. I remember a player on the Brewers(Scott Fletcher?) did the same thing to the White Sox in the early 90's when Garner was running the team and trying to fight Hawk and Wimpy. I think the Brewers rallied from some large deficit during that game and that hit blew up the rally. Pat Listache was teh shizzle that year.
  9. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) Can I make a call that we NOT use this word anymore? Flubsessed? No you may not. Are you afraid it applies?
  10. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) I'm not gonna pay the $3 per article the Sun Times wants to actually read these things, but here are the summaries they provide from a search: Convinced? No, I want detailed notes, in depth interviews, and at least two references proving your point.
  11. she looks like a bargain bin Angelina Jolie.
  12. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) Checking the Sun-Times archive, I find the following Mariotti article from October 22, 2003: "Wave him home: Guillen is right choice for Sox". So I think you're probably wrong on that. I would like to read the article before I decided that. Just because Mariotti used a happy go-lucky headline doesnt mean his story is happy go-lucky. I think Mariotti ripped it as a cheap solution, he was talking up Cito Gaston bigtime.
  13. And, the response. Hilarious. I wish I could stick around all day and watch the comments unfold. Ok, I am almost sure that Jay completely ripped the choice of Ozzie Guillen as coach for the White Sox. The guy is such a bald faced liar in print, it is silly that he can just write whatever he wants. Also, Teddy (Theodore) Greenstein has some interesting comments about Jay Wouldnt that be hilarious if, in the wake of all this mess, Mariotti gets fired for letting his ego get out of control and ripping the Sun Times? It wont happen, but damn would I love that drama
  14. QUOTE(Contreras @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 01:06 AM) Ok. Of course, it's wasted pixels to tell someone they remind you of XXXXXX, when the aforementioned someone has zero idea what you're saying. Yeah, I guess. But everyone else on the site knows exactly what he is saying. And he is right too....
  15. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) Cubs fans don't deserve to have Zambrano. Maybe he'll come to the Sox, Venezuelan mang that he is. Oh sure, after the Cubs ruin his arm.....
  16. http://www.suntimes.com/output/couch/cst-spt-greg212.html Cowley has Mariotti's back, lol. Well, the Sox havent been shy about telling the media that they read the papers.... The guy that threatened Mariotti was probably talked about by Mariotti, no doubt.

    Smoltz

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:02 AM) I forgot who wrote it and what paper it was in, but there was an article that suggested KW go after John Smoltz and Andruw Jones. I hadn't heard anything since then about either of the players coming to the White Sox. BUT, could KW make it happen? Jones makes 13.5 mil this season, and he's 29 years old. Smoltz is no better, 11 million and 39 years old. That's a lot of salary to bite, but I think they could start by shipping Freddy Garcia away. From there, if the Sox could for Atlanta to bite more off those two salaries, what else would Atlanta be looking for from the Sox? Do they have what it takes to get a deal like this made? I think if a deal like this were to happen, they would have to get rid of Freddy and another ML player, I dont know who that would be unless KW unloaded BA in the deal as well. I dont really see that happening, but I cannot say I would be terribly upset to see BMAC slide into the rotation and see Smoltz slide into the set-up role, but Smoltz would probably want to start. And at 11 million per year, the Sox would probably want him to start too. Smoltz has had so many problems with his elbow though, its a risky proposition. Andruw Jones is rumored to be having some shoulder problems as well.
  18. It is still wierd to me that KGJ would be so against playing for the Sox only because they train in Tampa. Its about the ring, not the location of Spring Training. If he doesnt understand that, he doesnt need to be on the White Sox and I dont want him on the White Sox.
  19. Im starting to feel like this was more of a "work" than it was a real argument. I heard Carmen, Jurko and Silvy mentioning the MJ&H "Maniversary" coming up, where they celebrate however long they have been together. Who knows though.
  20. QUOTE(CleanSox @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) But really, why should he even attempt to answer your queries if his credibility is zero around here? See, when a regular reads a response like this in a thread like this, it just makes me think that you came to this site specifically to argue in Hangars thread. You are entitled to do that, for sure, but the above statement is not well researched. this site has a tendency to go overboard with proof and "verified "evidence" of claims, because I believe the members realize that the credibility of the site is based on the credibility of the posters. If you post something outlandish and hard to believe(even if it is true, see:wcw2323 re:Charlie Haeger.), you better be able to show your facts seperately from your opinion. There are plenty of people who hate the Cubs(see: Cuck the Fubs), and that is perfectly fine(even though somewhat annoying at times), but Hangar has taken his hate and impressed it upon a medium that is hard to define. So he now is defining it the way he wants to, and people are taking issue. Steff has seen this happen before apparently, and doesnt like the way things are going. I can totally understand why. My above thread was in jest, but there was a lot of truth to it, these threads start and finish the same way, every week. JimH and SS2K5 have done a marvelous job of staying to the point of his argument, and Hangar honestly has avoided his questions every time. Why? If he believes in his crusade, he should be able to back it up. But he hasnt, he just moves on with his counting. QUOTE(CleanSox @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) Do you demand the same rigor (and expend the same effort) on the endless stream of threads started with topics like "Wife's Severed Head Flies From Truck When Man Crashes: Police Found Wife's Headless Body At Home"? Absolutely. If someone posts a story about a lady losing her head, and its false, the thread starter finds out. This site is funny that way, people seem to want to hear the truth. Aint that strange? QUOTE(CleanSox @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) Please understand, Jim. I'm not trying to "call you out" as you put it in an earlier post. You just seem like a good surrogate for the serious questioners. When I say "you" I really mean everyone who keeps trying to get things to line up in a way that doesn't offend their sense of the logical. There's the other contingent that seems to have history with Hanger, and still others who always come around when they hear the big dogs start barking. So what else is new in the realm of internet forums? Lets not forget the other, other contingent. You know, all the people registering to run to Hangars defense.
  21. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) Can he ever write a White Sox article without mentioning the Cubs in some way, shape, or form? Hell no. And he cannot write a Cubs article without mentioning the White Sox success either.
  22. HOW THE MEDIA COUNT LOOKS FROM AN INTERESTED VIEWER *Hangar posts numbers *JimH politely asks pointed questions about the legitamacy of the numbers. *Southsider2k5 chimes in, usually something funny about the numbers. *Hangar ignores JimH' question, instead answers(but not really) SS2k5, and once again drones about his time at WSI where the holy grail of bulls*** numbers resides, waiting to be rescued. *JimH repeats his question. *Hangar continues to ignore JimH. More droning. *Southsider2k5 pokes another hole in Hangars numbers. *Hangar references 1981 and 1982 out of nowhere. JimH pulls out his old Van Halen records but fails to care about the numbers. Neither does anyone else. *Hangar attempts to answer whats asked of him. Fails miserably, creates more questions about his numbers. *JimH' blood pressure rises as he asks his questions for the 503rd time, never to be answered. *thread closed. See you next week.
  23. Wow, didnt see the sexist twist in this plot. Im gonna have to keep an eye on this....
  24. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 12:27 AM) I still don't believe they knew how much of a loss Coco Crisp was. He really got them going in that lead-off spot. Nothing against Micheals (or even Sizemore leading off) but that was a HUGE lost. Crisp-Sizemore-Blake would have killed us (and every other AL team) defensively. Wasnt Sizemore more or less the full time lead-off hitter last year, with Crisp hitting #2? Not to say that he wasnt a loss, because he was a big one, I just thought I remembered Crisp hitting second last year.
