4/13 Gamethread: Sox (6-4) vs. Detroit (2-9); 1:05, WGN

QUOTE (DonnyDevito @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) We should just trade Fields right now. or not. it will be interesting to see. Crede is THE MAN! funny how nobody wanted to trade for him. teams like the SF Giants are kicking themselves in the arse. Sure, lets trade Fields before Crede is signed or goes into Free Agency -

As of right now the Sox have outscored the Tigers 20-5 in this series. And overall 46-15. Ouch -

Has anyone noticed that some of the better 3rd baseman in the Sox organization in the past 18 years(namely Robin Ventura and Joe Crede) seem to come up aces whenever it comes to grand slams? -

QUOTE (DonnyDevito @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) HAHAHAHA! i didn't think it could get any funnier than yesterday's home plate ump nearly hitting gavin floyd in the face...I was wrong! Miguel Cabrera shouldn't even be playing!! QUOTE (Maverick0984 @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Cabrera looks hurt too What happened? Gameday isnt showing me the fun stuff -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) I loved how patient Cabrera was against Moyer. However, why play Thome today? He's been struggling so much, he's struggled in his career against Rogers, and he's played in every game this year. Rogers too -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) I'm not extremely happy about his success at the plate either, but I'm just beginning to wonder.... When will Sox fans realize that their are two phases of the game for position players? Offense AND Defense. I for one, have been extremely pleased with the play at 2b from Juan thus far. He is our 9th hitter (except when Toby Hall plays, hah), not everyone in the lineup needs to be some OPS hog (although it would be ideal). I was actually wondering how the reaction would be if Richar or Ramirez came in and hit in the .250-.270 range, yet were miserable in the field. Last year Uribe was a liability to the extreme because the entire team wasnt hitting, and his overall defense was suffering as well. But with the team hitting well right now, and with Uribe providing great-stellar defense, I really dont have many complaints about snacks and cakes right now. He is even taking walks every once in a while -
Stoney new guy on the Score-somebody should tell the Sox

QUOTE (palehose23 @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 11:39 AM) Finally they have fixed the problem Stoney is actually a member of the broadcasting team Well thats a good thing. If he wasnt, then they wasted all that money on advertisements all over the Cell and on the Score. -
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 11:31 AM) That bolded part doesn't even make any sense. Doesn't proving he has talent = what he does on the field? I don't care what "stuff" a guy might have, I'll take results over it everyday. You too, my friend, are missing the point. We all are. He has stuff, so pile the crow on a plate and start chowing down.

Say Gavin gets blown up for his next 3 starts, does that mean someone needs to create a thread so that you can be accountable? You too are missing the point. It has NOTHING to do with performance on the field. It has everything to do with him, however, proving he has talent and does have major league stuff. 50% of this board didn't see that this year. I think, even if he does get shelled for the rest of the year, at this point you have to admit he does have ML stuff and talent. I couldn't get over the number of people who didn't see this last year when he was struggling. What an arm the kid has. Potential and talent is not worth eating crow. Results are

That should be annoying for them. It's silly because I am calling people out and holding them accountable for their comments? Don't get me wrong, I am not saying Gavin will get Cy Young consideration or even get 10 wins this year. What I am saying, is you have to admit the kid does have good stuff and he does have talent. Half of this board didn't think that this year, which completely blew me away as I thought it was blatantly obvious what a great arm the kid has. Getting our friends on SoxTalk to admit they are wrong is like pulling teeth I know, so perhaps we should just blow up this thread? To me it's a good thing when you step forward and admit you're wrong otherwise you're no better than Mariotti who says whatever he wants with no recourse or accountability whatsoever. Why the rush to get people to eat crow? Say Gavin gets blown up for his next 3 starts, does that mean someone needs to create a thread so that you can be held accountable?

Apparently the Yankess went into full panic mode regarding the Red Sox jersey buried in the foundation by a dumbass worker who blabbed about it, and they have now found and unearthed the jersey.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 06:12 PM) So, what's wrong with C.C.? Maybe he is one of those guys that buckles under the pressure of an impending contract? Maybe his knees are buckling under his imposing weight? It doesnt seem like he has lost velocity, but he has really lost his control, so he is all over the zone and getting lit up when he finally comes to the plate. Isnt he a notoriously slow starter though?

I remember as a kid going to the Cascade drive-in on North avenue in West Chicago with my family to watch the doublefeature for 5 bucks a person. Before the movies and during intermission they would play The Stooges, and I always loved watching that stuff.

His fastball was ranging from 90-93 MPH, but staying mostly around 90 MPH. His curveball, what more can you say about it, it dropped about 18 inches, but the pitch that was totally messing people up was his changeup. He got Maggs out on it twice, he was throwing it on full counts, 1-2 counts, it didnt matter. And if Floyd can stay competitive and keep himself in games, I think we are just scratching the surface.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 08:05 AM) I saw that highlight on sports center last night, and that curve was sick. But I was pissed, I was hoping they'd show more highlights, but they only showed like 2. Well they needed that extra time to show all of the rain delays in the Boston/New york game. No ESPN show is complete without showing Papelbon warming up 16 times. So they just cut out some of that worthless almost-nohitter nonsense and complete domination of the tigers and inserted Papelbon getting up 4 times in 2 hours. It was necessary

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 08:47 AM) I have been hearing this stat more and more this year and I really dont know what qualifies a reliever to earn a "hold".But considering the way the game is setup this day and age with relief pitching having defined roles out of the bullpen I would think this stat could be a good reference for those relief pitchers that wouldnt normally get as much as attention as closers and starters.I could see it as a bargaining chip for those negotiating future deals. I think it is already a bargaining chip for middle relievers.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 08:54 AM) since my tivo/cable box is gay and for some reason I can't pick up baseball games on comcast, I was not able to see the game... how sick was Floyd? If I were you I would go browse the MLB.com and ESPN.com highlights. There is one of Floyd striking out Miguel Cabrera on a curveball that is about as sick as they come. Miggy buckled his knees and just started walking to the dugout. He had that curveball all day long.

QUOTE (max power @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) A 4.5 era is all this team needs from their #5 starter. Lets hope that Contreras can do that for us then.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) lol, Chicago is not ANY better, Philly is just a smaller version of us. Ask Rex Grossman. I dont know, Philly has a long list of doing some things that make the treatment of Rex Grossman seem pretty mild

Gavin just dominates the Tigers. It doesnt make sense, but he does. Didnt he 3-hit the Tigers last year? Verlander took it on the chin today. His stuff was pretty good as well, he just didnt have any run support and didnt have a competent bullpen to hand over the ball to, so he was left in one inning too long. Leylands hands are pretty much tied now until either Dombrowski trades for bullpen help or the bullpen pulls it together somehow. Either way it benefits the Sox right now.

MMMk, I just saw a statue of Juan Uribe at the park on the White Sox pregame show. WTF is going on. I dont care if he made a brilliant catch in the World Series. he is Juan Uribe. You dont make statues for Juan Uribe, you just make sure that there is a buffet for Juan, and a buffet for the rest of the team -
The Tigers/Sox brawl in 2000 was probably the best, but the Cubs/Sox brawl in 2006 was pretty close behind based on sheer shock value
