QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 04:06 PM) Well, since this entire topic is random, let me throw something out there. I heard that if you throw a piece of bologna on the hood of a car and let it sit there on a hot day, it peels the paint off of the hood perfectly in a circle. God i love a good bologna sandwich

Im going to keep on hoping, despite the growing negative sentiment that keeps telling me that I am wrong for hoping. I just want SOMETHING done. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) We are getting Ken Griffey Jr, I'll stake Bruce Levine's reputation on it. I will hold you to that.... -
QUOTE(False Alarm @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) you said, "outkast is more hip hop than rap." that's what i was responding to. if you'd've said, "outkast is more hip hop than gangsta rap," then i'd've had no quarrel. cuz yes, all those acts you name rap: the rap is the vocal line of a hip hop song. thus common sense and all the rest are absolutely rappers. they MC, they flow, they rhyme, they rap (granted that most peeps who listen to hip hop don't use the terms "rap" and "rapper" anymore)--all the same thing, ie the MC's role in hip hop. i don't think either of us are much interested in an argument over whether gangsta rap really constitutes hip hop so i'll leave that issue alone. anyhow, peace. just a misunderstanding over our terminology i guess, and then i kinda responded to the rest of the thread in the same post. wasn't clear to me that they were differentiating gangsta rap from the larger hip hop picture. My statement was a response to White Sox Josh grouping LL Cool J and Outkast into gangsta rap. cheers as well peace

QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) Perhaps Milwood & Lee. Every single one of our starters has a lower ERA and a better record than their Cleveland counterpart. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) Another bat for Cleveland although if Levine said it, he probably is going anywhere but Cleveland. Do you know that any one of the first 6 hitters in Cleveland's line-up would be leading the White Sox in hitting? where would their pitchers be in our rotation? -
QUOTE(False Alarm @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) from what i've heard of him, big boi's a good MC, which means he raps, and he's been a pretty important part of outkast over the years. just cuz andre 3000 wants to be prince doesn't mean outkast isn't (or wasn't, anyway) rap. the term "hip hop" pretty much assumes rap anyway, as i understand it. also, the attitudes about hip hop in this thread aren't really fair. the violent, thuggish hacks that compose most of mainstream hip hop are a small minority. there are, like, a kajillion hip hop artists outside of the dozen or so that get regular radio/MTV rotation, and plenty of them deal with issues other than violence, misogyny, etc. just thought i should put that out there. and no, suge knight has never rhymed. You dont see a difference in Hip Hop and Gangsta Rap? Just because Big Boi and Andre 3000 can rap, doesnt mean they are Gangsta rappers which is what i was saying. In fact, many songs that Outkast and Jurassic 5 perform completely rip on Gansta rappers and their songs. The attitudes in this thread are not against Hip hop, they are against Gangsta Rap. The violent, thuggish "hacks" may only make up a small percentage of what is out there(doubtful), but alot of the mainstream rappers came from that background. Ludacris, 50 Cent, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, even Bone Thugs n Harmony could be considered among this group, even though alot of these guys are considered fakes because their background wasnt tough enough for the critics. The MTV generation likes the violence and thuggery, and they have a big say in top 40, whether we like it or not. I, for one, love Jurassic 5, GURU, Common, Mos Def, Outkast, etc. And you will never hear me calling them rappers just because they can flow.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) Yes, that part I get, but is he saying he does or doesn't think Griffey will do that? Seems to me if Levine is saying he thinks the deal will get done b-4 Wed., he feels Griffey will go to Reds mgmt. and ask for the trade. Did he speculate at all on that? No, he didnt speculate much at all. he just repeated the same things he has been repeating for weeks. He said Griffey is talking out of both sides of his mouth(which is a pot-meet-kettle type story if you ask me) about where he wants to be. I guess the only good thing you can draw from this, if you want Griffey, is that Griffey has never come out and said he wont allow the trade to happen. -
QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) i already have it and its very good, very poppy...down like disco is quite good...awesome shoe-gaze rock... spoon, BRMC, and dandy warhols all put out real nice rock and roll records this year... The Warhols definitely have a disco-rock feel about them

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) Well, I'm confused by this thread. There was one post that said Levine thinks the deal will indeed happen in the next day or so, and now he's saying he doesn't think Griffey will go to Reds mgmt. and ask for a trade? Bruce is basically saying that Griffey has to make it known that he wants out of Cinci to fascillitate the trade. -
QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) i think we really can win the season opener...i cry when i think i might not be able to watch most of this season and i'm gonna miss this ridiculously good defense we have (i'm at school in mizzou right now) Ha! The Rams and Chiefs rule the roost around you. In Carbondale i had to finally break down and get the NFL ticket to watch the Bears.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) If someone can please post what's said (by Levine) ... much appreciated. Those stuck on a 2 hour teleconference would like to know! I got my teleconference out of the way at 10 AM just so I could listen to good old Bruce. -
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) Laying on the couch with a hangover one Sunday afternoon the remote fell off the table and being too lazy to get up to pick it up.. I watched that also. Scary is right. Extremely sad to see that harmless little child grow up into what he is today. You know their shady lawyer, David Kenner? Currently, that guy represents Maurice Clarett. When you think about all the bad decisions Clarett has made in the past 3 years, it all sort of makes sense.

QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) ssweet...i loved that doc "dig"...i really didn't listen to them until then, i'd been a dandy warhols fan for a while... i first read that as tom petty with the black crowes as like his new backing band Are you pumped about "The odditorium...." which is coming out next month? I thought that the Warhols were awesome when they came out, and have gotten progressively better each album. I still havent seen them live, but they seem like they would be really fun.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) not true for all rappers. Listen to OutKast, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and others. Actually Gangsta Rap was originally designed to bring awarness to all the bad things that were happening in the Ghetto. Outkast is more hip-hop than rap. And i dont really think LL Cool J was considered Gangsta Rap either. Suge Knight is nothing but a bully who has been in the right place at the right time all too often(business-wise). I watched the Documentary about Death Row Records(the life and death of death row). What an eye opener, absolutely scary s*** went down in that place.

QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) Agreed. He's a great RB,but like someone said, the offensive line is paper thin.Jones is not great, but good enough. Ced Benson, glad he signed. But now,he better get his ass in gear.He already did his Curtis Enis-like holdout,I hope he doesn't play like him too. No, the O-Line WAS paper thin. I dont believe it is anymore. In fact, I think its gonna be very good this year.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:22 AM) He really seems to just absolutely make things up...and he is respected by all these stations and networks...unreal. name me a credible baseball guy who has the same, or similar job as Bruce Levine. All those guys get the same rap, they throw a bunch of s*** against the wall to see what sticks. Its what they do, every single one of them. Bruce is no different, he is the Cubs version of Peter Gammons(without the salmon colored suits). Sometimes he is right, but it is few and far between, just like Gammons. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) im not sure we couldnt at least get the deal considered again if we wanted to take his whole contract. Desperate times call for desperate measures. KW and JR have to want the best team available for the playoffs. Come on JR, Win or Die Trying. -
Did he have elbow or shoulder surgery with the cubs? Either way, he hasnt been close to the same as he was before his surgery since it was performed. I remember when the White Sox went to Atlanta, I think in 01, They lost I believe 3-2 to Greg maddux. Remlinger came in for the 7th, and just flat out dominated everyone who stepped in the box.
