QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) He was throwing near 100 with Toronto. When was his Tommy John surgery? He seemed like an awesome guy, a standup guy, and a great teammate. It sucks that you have some people, not you kyyle23, making statements and speculations that he would ever be on steroids. If anyone knows of a site that tells you information about injuries to players during their career, and not just current injuries, feel free to let me know about it. SSI, I found this article about Koch and Benson coming out of Clemson together, it doesnt get too specific about everything around his injury, but here you go. http://cworld.clemson.edu/winter2000/b&b.htm

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) Unless they send Jenks back down and make a trade for a subpar lefty-reliever like an Affeldt. Hey what is Schoenwiese up to? Lol just kidding. Affeldt cannot stay healthy for more than a month. He seems to have the same sort of finger blister problems that have consistently plagued to Josh Beckett. A few elbow problems mixed in too.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) Did you here the latest rumor? There's a chance if Phil Nevin accepts the trade to Baltimore that the Orioles release Corky. Omar Minaya Rejoices! The Mets are now in position to solidify their need of another diminishing bat!

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) Where is the proof of this? I can't stand people that throw names out there with no proof of anything. That is an ugly thing to say about someone and he never fit into that whole thing. Show me some evidence or proof of this. b-b-b-b-but he played in Oakland, very close to Balco! The connection is there! You just have to be imaginative! I always thought that Koch benefited from the immediate results of Tommy John, in which many pitchers gain a little velocity(maybe from the tightness of the new ligaments) and then surely drop to where they were before(some get worse). Its too bad the White Sox had to realize that he was done after everyone else did, but oh well, whats done is done.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) Wagner is more than a slight upgrade over Marte. I understand that, but my point is that acquiring Burnett would probably have a better effect than acquiring Wagner. You cannot compare the two, they both exist in different parts of the pitching world, but I think that Burnett would have the desired effect that the White Sox are looking for. I also think Jenks is going to become a pitcher to be counted on in the coming months.
-
I just see acquiring Burnett as solifying a good rotation. If you spin him for Wagner, it just seems like slightly upgrading Marte(like giving Marte better control and a little more speed on his fastball), but it doesnt seem to me like the move to put the Sox over the top. JMHO
-
I just dont understand the logic of acquiring Burnett only to spin him for Wagner. I feel the Sox could do both if they wanted, and they are waiting for Burnett to happen before they move onto improving other facets of the team. Im not saying that I dont think Wagner is as good as Burnett, Im just saying that they both fill different needs.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) Reminds me of the photoshopped pic of him chasing the donut off the mound. I can't get that outta my head when I think of him. LOL, I would like to see this picture.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) ive said this many times before that they always envisioned contreras being a closer. before they got him for esteban, and found shingo, they tried trading for him about a month earlier with the intention of making him the closer. they must really see something in contreras that would make him a strong closer. i know his #s as a reliever with the yankees were much better, and iirc someone pulled his 1st innings stats from last year and the year before and they were tremendous I think they see his "stuff" as being closer-type stuff. A hard moving fastball and a forkball that falls off the table.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) if that was really how he phrased it, id say its gonna get done and ill believe what anthrax said earlier I couldnt believe it when i heard it either. i started pointing to the radio saying "Ooooh, you basically announced it bruce". But he said it, and then backtracked a bit.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) Big heist, thats an understatement. well, if you include all of the cheeseburgers and fries that were necassary to consummate the deal, it was a ginormous heist.
-
Another thing that Bruce said that surprised me was that they are thinking really hard about turning Contreras into a closer if they acquire Burnett.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) ...just thinking the same thing. If Kenny nets Burnett, he would have acquired the two most covetted starting pitchers available at the trade deadline in consecutive years. Now, that's impressive. You could argue three in a row. even though it wasnt at the deadline, Bartolo Colon the year before was a pretty big heist.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) no kiddin? when was this? between 9:30 and 9:45 this morning., when he was on with Carmen and Silvy. He said a couple of things that surprised me.
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) No. Effing'. Way. He actually said "Burnett will be with the White Sox, let me rephrase that, Kenny Williams is trying very hard to acquire Burnett whether he is a rental or not."
-
Im sure that this has been stated already, but I was thinking that if the problem with Frank Thomas persists, and it looks like he isnt going to be able to make it back this year without constant pain, then Griffey should be one target. I have been laughing at the KGJ bandwagon this whole time, but if Thomas stays on the DL, it changes my outlook. If Griffey and Everett could share the DH/4th OF role much in the same way that thomas and everett share the DH role, this team would probably be more improved. Just my two cents.

Bruce stopped just short of gauranteeing that Burnett would come to the Sox, rental or not. he was talking about how JR ok'ed adding a rental if it was necassary. He also talked pretty highly of Burnett, saying that Matt Clement told him that Burnett has more electric stuff than Prior, Wood, Beckett, anyone he has ever pitched with. I think I read on chicagosports.com or benmaller.com that JR is going to ok a rental, it was KW who prefers to get him signed if possible.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:11 AM) Hermanson has been anything but overpowering when converting his saves. He has been fortunate so far on at least 5 or 6 occasions that that defense has bailed him out. Your beef with Hermanson seems to be when he comes in for non-save situations. I agree, he has been extremely subpar in his outings where the pressure wasnt on, and has given up hits and runs. But to his credit, he has gotten the job done 23 out of 24 times this year when it has mattered.

QUOTE(shakes @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) I laughed ever night they called two shows The Trifecta. Couldn't they have changed the name, or dropped it, until they got a third show back. didnt they run "Outside the Lines" as the third show in the trifecta? Thats what i always saw, I never saw only two shows.

i dont know how prevalent this is in other parks, but Holiday World(In Santa Claus, Indiana) has free drinks and free sunblock, and the food was good and reasonably priced(hamburger 3 Bucks, 14 inch pizza with saus and pep 14 bucks). We had a great time there despite the drive. Its also rated the cleanest waterpark in the world, and I cannot disagree. In the part of the park with the rides, they have the number 1 and number 4 wooden roller coasters in the world, and they are awesome. If you are looking to get away and avoid the uber-crowded parks in Chicago and the Dells, this is the place to go. www.holidayworld.com

Hmmm, Neyer dissing the Sox? No Way! This coming from the guy who thinks the Royals pitching is much improved every year.
-
I just checked Gonzalez numbers (after I made an uninformed statement), I was wrong. Gonzalez can stay in Florida.
-
If Uribe was included in the deal, it makes alot of sense for both teams. The Marlins get a young SS signed for 3 years, and the White Sox get a very solid SS who wants to play for Ozzie. I would do it ina heartbeat.
-
Last time I remember him in the playoffs he struck out alot. That off-season he was shipped to Texas. I think more of a contact hitter is needed, but who knows.
-
the next time I go to a Waterpark it will either be Holiday World or somewhere at the Dells. I can just imagine how crowded Great America gets, even on an off-day. The Dells has alot of different waterparks to offer, and Holidayworld is far enough out there to not be too crowded.
