Snowmageddon 2015
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 07:47 AM) I lived in Memphis for a few years, and this was a big thing there. Their building codes aren't what they are in Chicago, so there were many situations where pipes were run in outside walls, sometimes with no insulation. On nights when it was going to go below about 25 degrees, the news covereage went into hyperdrive and told everyone to open all the cabinets and run all their faucets all night. It was so cute. And the one time in 3 winters down there they got a measurable snow that stuck (2-3", stayed for a day), the entire city shut down. I mean, other than FedEx's operations at the airport (FedEx literally owned the only snow plows in town, and they NEVER shut down for ANYTHING), NOTHING was open. And of course the night before, there was the bum rush on bread and milk at the grocery stores. Carbondale was very similar. If they got snow, it was a nightmare. My freshman year(fall 96) there was a pretty big snowfalland they spread wood coal on the streets, I had never seen that before. It was extremely messy

I gotta say I am impressed with what CW is doing with The Flash. I really like Harrison Wells character, his motives are slowly coming out, but he has been great at playing both sides

Hawk on the Score with Mully & Hanley this morning
i can handle Farmer and DJ in small doses, but Farmer really grates on me with his inside jokes and calling a homerun for every batter. And I agree with an earlier post that Farmer really doesnt paint the picture well, he leaves out a lot of key details when calling a game. He doesnt harbor grudges like Hawk though

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) Farmer puts me to sleep. he is monotone, but the nonsense that comes out of his mouth more than matches Hawk

Hawk on the Score with Mully & Hanley this morning
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 10:18 AM) I have no idea whose fault it is, but Hawk is way too over the top for my tastes. Which is a contrast to the radio announcer who is too under the top. I hope you arent referring to Farmer, because he is as over the top as they come

Cafardo's manager ranking
QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 08:17 AM) Your way is that anyone that can read percentages can manage. Are there times that you bench a hot hand? Of course. It's much, much more rare that I believe you are indicating. i think what is rare here is Leury Garcia getting so hot over the course of two games that it doesnt make sense to remove him from the lineup. I dont think that ever happened. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) You are strawmanning here. I never said one game. Right right right, you said two games. Straw man indeed

QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 11:26 AM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/v/venturo01.shtml I'm not sure I can even take you seriously anymore. I've just begun using my account and you've already identified yourself as a fan boy. Sure you don't want to follow a different team? Yea, why dont you go ahead and relax a bit QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 11:23 AM) Not the same. and while you are relaxing, let me know why it isnt the same. The Marlins dropped a ton of dough on that team and had to dismantle it in 4 months because Ozzie didnt "immediately make it better"

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 10:58 AM) Because everyone had defined roles...the only time he departed from that pattern from July on was bringing in Ventura as a reliever in an effort to shake things up and because they were all over Shields, he was hanging by a thread the entire game. You are seriously bringing up one random instance in an entire season and expecting me to remember this?

QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 10:39 AM) I'm not saying it was time for a change. They went with Ozzie and I was ok with that. If they went back to him it would improve the team immensely right now. And you know that. No it wouldnt, how much did he improve the Marlins?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 10:36 AM) http://m.mlb.com/news/article/106374740/mi...lieving-in-team The thing is, the Royals were challenged offensively (until the playoffs) to drive in runs with homers, everyone knows that. Bunting/sacrificing made a lot of sense for that team, in that ballpark...because of the incredible track record the bullpen had with just 1-2 run leads...and how important it was for that team in the 2nd half to take the lead early, as they believed it meant a sure win, just like the 2005 White Sox believed as well, especially the first 2 1/2 months or so in 2005 when Pods and Iguchi were in synch. As an organizational philosophy, it worked. You can't expect hitters like Escobar, Infante, Dyson and Aoki to pound out victories...so they basically played a different style with half of their line-up while still hoping for SOME power from Hosmer, Butler, Moustakas, Perez and Gordon. Part of that philosophy was a belief in team playing and making every out count, as well as making contact. The White Sox could learn a thing or two, because ever since 2005/06, and 2008 when Quentin was on fire, their offensive attack has been pretty one-dimensional, all things considered. Their pitching was fantastic, especially the relief, and it minimized Yosts bad managing.

Sandler and Samberg singing the song about breaking character was awesome, especially ripping on Fallon and Sanz. I couldnt stop laughing at the cowbell skit in full, it was amazing that Walken could keep it together but Fallon, Ferrell and Kattan couldnt

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) Do you also believe the White Sox would still have won the World Series in 2005 if they fired Ozzie when the Indians were only 1 1/2 games back? Of course, nothing is provable. Other than bringing in Ventura in relief for Shields, what did Yost do wrong? BTW, I've read all off-season that Shields was terrible in the playoffs and not "Big Game" James, so maybe it wasn't the worst idea in the world... The Royals and Giants had basically the same amount of regular season victories...so why is Bochy a "genius" and Yost is just lucky when there wasn't a single All-Star caliber hitter on that roster? Yost gave away outs like it was going out of style. His team succeeded despite him, not because of him. I am not comparing Yost to Ozzie in 05, or Robin today. They arent the same situation, nor the same people,
