QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) I mean, it's all based on %. If the cap only goes up 5 mill this year, because they are "smoothing", then Jimmy will get $15 million. If the cap rises to 125 million and all hell breaks loose, yeah, he'll be getting 25 million, but a lot of people are gonna be paid crazy sums. His may be the best "new" contract of the lot. Its just crazy to me that for the last two years we have been reading J4L going "HAHAHA JIMMY BUTLER IS LAME HAHAAHA NO SUPERSTARS FOR YOU" and now Jimmy Butler is becoming a bonafide superstar right before our eyes. And I do math bad. 20M

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) Okay, and...they just walked into the superbowl? Both teams were superbowl ready due to their then-present construction. I would have liked to see Gruden in that Superbowl against a team that he didnt know the playbook. His team won a superbowl. I still wouldnt back up the money truck for him

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) Winning a super bowl is hard, nobody is gifted it. Gruden was as close to gifted a superbowl as anyone has ever been. Callahan didnt change anything in the offense, both sides of that game admitted as such after the game was over. The Tampa defense said Gruden played the part of Gannon in the scout team and told them all EXACTLY how his line calls worked and what he was going to do, to a T

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 02:28 PM) Disagree. They did have a great defense, but Dungy couldn't get it done. Gruden could. As far as the playbook, you could argue the Raiders had Gruden's playbook and couldn't get it done. It's a two way street. Either which way, he ain't coming. Best hope is for Polian and Holmgren package deal. LOL no. You cant argue that a guy using another guys script is just as smart as the guy that wrote the script.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) Gruden has led a team to the Super Bowl while another team should've been in it if it wasn't for the tuck. He's proven he's a head coach (not just a coordinator in over his head) and players like playing for him except Keyshawn who really didn't like anyone but Bill Parcells. Gruden won a superbowl because he basically knew the entire playbook of the Raiders and was handed a ferocious Tony Dungy defense.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) It's a good position to be in if they plan on giving the next coach more power than usual or if there is a package deal out there. Honestly, I don't think the Bears are getting Harbaugh, so I wouldn't bother. I'd be throwing everything at Gruden or Rex Ryan. Ryan was a casualty of a bad GM. Pretty sure Gruden is locked down until 2021 with ESPN. When he announced it during the Bears MNF game a few weeks ago, Tirico made it a point to say he will not be coaching until the contract is up

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) If Emery just franchises Cutler for this year instead of the big contract, does he keep his job? If the year played out the exact same, i would lean towards no. But, he would have a small case where he could say "Getting rid of QB and coach, and starting from scratch".

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) To be fair, I don't think the appeal of Shanahan to McCaskey is the Cutler connection. You may not think that, but its in the water. And all Shanahan talked about last week was how he thought Cutler was a good quarterback

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) WTF is Cutler at this point? I have no clue where this guy will excel. Jay is 31 years old. His shelf life in the NFL is what, 4-6 more years at best? I seriously doubt he is about to flip a switch and become a game manager/reduce his turnovers. What George McCaskey does with the franchise from this point forward should have nothing taken in account for Cutler.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) But he's also a good football coach. One who will have the offense run the ball more, which is what everyone wants right? The fact that Jay had some good year under him is just an added bonus to me, and one that I really see no problem with. you should have a problem with it. They need to stop trying to make patches to force Cutler to become something that he is not.

i just dont think you can play the "well he could have moved down and gotten him later" game like that. A few teams came out and said they really liked Long and considered him late in the first round. Regardless of hindsight. Long was a really good pick.

Did you guys see the picture that Rich Campbell tweeted yesterday of Emery sitting next to George in the press box? That had to be a very uncomfortable time for Emery

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) IMO, hitting on a solid first round pick doesn't mean a guy still isn't an overdraft. If he was the only one and was still a hit we wouldn't have a problem, but particularly with first rounders, drafting guys he likes that he could potentially have moved down and gotten is definitely a pattern with Emery. Long is already a two time pro bowler. It was thought as an overdraft when it happened, most analysts have backtracked on that and admitted that it was a very good pick

QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 05:55 AM) the late great Bill Veeck, they don't make baseball men like that anymore. I'm glad he was a part of white Sox history. thanks, douglas Thats because most organizations have switched from creating a circus in order to draw fans to trying to win baseball games to draw fans. Again, it has been said before in this thread, why are you more concerned about the Sox being a headline silly story than winning games? If a manager and general manager creates a team that wins games, the headlines will be there regardless, without the drama
