  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 10:50 AM) I have to agree with you. McCown is playing out of his mind. The defense is atrocious so you might as well use that Cutler money to try to patch up that side of the ball. McCown can obviously get things done for the next year or so until you figure out your long term QB plans. This is the kind of mentality that got the Bears stuck in a "Havent had a good QB since Sid Luckman" drought. I think the D can be fixed and Cutler can be paid. The question is, does Cutler want to get paid like Stafford? If that is the case, then they will be forced to let Cutler walk.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) McCown could be a stop gap for a year as they groom the next QB from the draft. Here are your choices next year: (1) Resign Cutler and make minimal improvements to the defense. (2) Let Cutler walk and make moderate improvements to the defense. If your goal is to win in the next 2 years, you choose option 2. This is their window. Right now before all of their aging defensive stars are too old to play. I think Tillman (resign him) and Briggs have another year or two left in them. Sign at least one decent safety and draft another along with some pass rushers. Then hope that Bostic develops after an offseason and Briggs is still at his pro-bowl form. IMO if they resign Cutler you're looking at the same team as this year - around .500, no serious threat to make the playoffs or make any noise once you get there because the defense will still be terrible. And you can't be confident that Cutler would actually play the whole year. He's injury prone. I think number 1 has a lot of variance depending on how Cutler is signed. If he signs a franchise deal, then it will be minimal improvements. What if Cutler signs a team friendly deal? I know Cutler has a lot of detractors because of cutlerface, but i think the guy is smart enough to realize that Chicago is one of the best situations for him. The Free agent options have a lot of things that dont look good for him, new coordinators, players, systems. If he wants to just get paid like Flacco/Stafford, I think the Bears let him walk.
  3. I just cannot get over how strong Alshons hands are. Everytime he makes a catch, it is perfect form, point in the triangle, and the ball does not move at all. Last nights endzone catch was amazing because he kept his feet in bounds, but the catch in Minnesota was unreal because of how much he was moving and the ball didnt even shift
  4. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:57 AM) I'd like to see the Packers hire Wade Phillips. I know him and Ted Thompson are close. kicking Dom to the curb?
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:50 AM) I was referring to Wade as being our DC if we fire Tucker. I don't know that Tucker had a fair shake but the piss poor fundamentals of this defense are sickening and I wouldn't have a problem if Tucker was fired for it. Now that I would be all over
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:40 AM) My biggest issue is the poor tackling. DeCamillis is a joke too. He has no excuse and needs to be fired immediately and the Bears need to bring in someone who really has a history of defensive excellence. Depending on who the Texans hire, I would be all over Wade Phillips. Wade Phillips as ST coach? I dont think he will be taking a step back from DC to be a ST coach. The Texans may suck, but IIRC their defense is still top 5. Im sure many teams will be looking for him as a DC if the Texans dont hang on to him
  7. qwerty, feel free to start your own thread in SLaM if you want to have some sort of free form talking/typing if you need to express this. Im positive there are others on this site that can share some of your pain
  8. Such a crazy year. Injuries, the defense and ST falling off, the offense becoming something to be proud of, Jeffery becoming an absolute beast. It may be frustrating as hell, but I'm watching until it's all over
  9. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 07:34 PM) What are you talking about? HHH being promoted is a major topic in wrestling circles and a lot of people have reservations about it. You non stop complain about HHH, that's what I'm talking about. Suck it up, unless he dies or gets busted cheating on Stephanie, he is going nowhere.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 09:01 PM) How do you defend Marshall plus Jeffrey, it is not possible And Bennett, and Forte
  11. Two bad defenses. Two good offenses. So far the Bears have the only stop. Lol
  12. Aldi is too irregular with things that I need for me to go there frequently. Right now I go to Butera in elgin for my meat and fruit/vegetables, and go to Jewel for pretty much everything else. I used to go to Valli food in Hoffman Estates/Schaumburg before we moved to Sleepy Hollow. I miss that place, their prices were better than everywhere else near me.
  13. omg you are as bad as the guy that used to come on this site and post how many times the Cubs were mentioned over the white sox.
  14. QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) Numbers wise they're already comparable and Q has room to grow. The first half of 06 you guys are touting Count had a 3.38 ERA, Q in the 2nd half had a 3.21. I know that's cherry picking and mismatching a bit, but I think it's somewhat valid. He was dominating until he hurt himself, i believe he hurt his back in June. Look at his splits in April/May, then in June is when he got hurt. He was dealing
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) I guess to me being an ace is not a state of being. You either are one or you aren't. You might be able to impersonate one for 35 starts, but it becomes quite clear over your career whether or not you are one. We have always known that Chris is an ace. Before he had ever pitched like one, we knew that was what we had. Jose Quintana could go 22-2 next season with a 2.8 ERA and we will still know that he is not an ace. Hard to say with Contreras. By all accounts in his Cuban years he was every bit an ace, which is why the Yankees backed up the cash truck when his Contreras defected. What we saw looked like an ace. Your opinion is that he is just a good pitcher that got hot, but he pitched the part of an ace for that team. He wasnt just a really good 2 or 3.
  16. Matt Stafford fumbleface, in glorious slow motion
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 12:56 PM) FOTF? fart on the fire.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) But of course, he wasn't an ace. That's the cool thing about having a lot of really good pitchers. Chances are, at any given moment one of them will pitch like an ace. Contreras was super inconsistent and just got hot. That's why he only cost us Esteban Loaiza, who was also an ace for five minutes. Nobody comparable to Chris Sale on that team and that's okay. It wasnt any given moment though. His numbers for almost a calender year were that of an ace. He wasnt inconsistent at all, he was straight up dominant. Before the 05 break, and after the 06 break it was the inconsistent guy. But he absolutely elevated his game to an Ace.
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) I'm of the opinion that an ace is one of the most overrated possessions. I think having a great rotation is the best thing to have, but having an "ace" is not all that different from having a really, really good pitcher. What ace was on the 2005 team? It was filled with guys we'd say were 2s and 3s. Contreras finished out that season as an ace. And continued that through the beginning of 2006. He was just filthy after the break
  20. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 09:46 AM) Sometimes its better to say nothing. says you
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) Take the best offer you can get then move a guy or two for Price and ink Price to a long term deal. Hopefully at the end of the day you have Price and an A rated prospect Sale would fit into Tampa's budget as well...... LMAO, you think the Rays front office would just take a guy or two for Price?
  22. Im pretty wary of trading Sale too. Returns like the A's got for Haren are the exception, not the rule. Johan Santana and Miguel Cabrera's returns were abysmal
  23. He was pretty filthy in his prime. Too bad he wasted most of that prime in Toronto
  24. Its just gonna be an ice cold game tonite.
  25. Yea that was an amazing catch to end the game. Tough way to lose for the Vikings on that pass interference call
