  1. Haha. Jon is going to sit these b****es down now. Bring in Viz!
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) WE HAVE A BULLPEN FULL OF GUYS WHO HAVEN'T BEEN USED! What's the point of having Vizcaino if we're not going to play the game with urgency? So you think Vizcaino gives us a better chance right now?
  3. I'm not sure how anyone can be really upset with Garland. Sure, he's having a bad game but he's not gotten enough work because of how Ozzie set up the rotation.
  4. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) Garland: 3.50 ERA, 115K, 26 longballs Oswalt: 2.94 ERA, 184K, 18 longballs This doesn't tell the full story, however. You're right. Garland pitches in the AL, in a more hitter friendly ballpark, has a lower WHIP, and a better winning percentage on the year.
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) It isn't one bad outing. He is 6/8 in save opportunities and 1-1 W-L record. .750 save percentage isn't exactly lights out. I think there are good reasons to be wary of a kid who was just called up from AA a few months ago, and is now closing in the World Series. Especially one with checkered history of not always having his head screwed on straight. I'd be very surprised if this isn't the biggest discussion in Ozzie's office today and tomorrow, I'd think, given how he has managed all year, that this isn't even a discussion and Jenks will be out there next time there's a save opp.
  6. You guys are unreal. The kid has one bad game and there's already "well, maybe he shouldn't be the closer" talk. Get a job at ESPN if you're into knee-jerk reactions. I'm sure Bobby's going to be just fine next time out.
  7. Going into this game, Jon has to be the most underrated player on the planet. The focus is on Oswalt but Garland has really been just as good as Oswalt this season. And this isn't coming from the usual talking heads. I've already seen people here suggesting a trade of Garland in the offseason because he's likely to have 4.50+ ERA next year. :headshake
  8. QUOTE(qwerty @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) One at-bat changes nothing for me. Didn't he just drive in a huge run in the bot. of the 8th in Game 1?
  9. Can Joe Buck just f***ing die? I've seen 1 replay of the Grand Slam and 15 of Dye-gate. f*** you.
  10. That's at least another $1M right there for Koko.
  11. I particularly liked Rowand asking Walker about Wheeler. Isn't that something you want to do before the game?
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) Bulls*** infield hit? That guy led all of baseball in infield hits. He has a great ability to get out of the box on his swing. Not to mention the fact that the Astros are hitting rockets off Buehrle the entire game...
  13. We can talk about some poor ABs by our guys, but this loss should really go on Buehrle. Any game where a team has to score 5 runs off Pettitte and the Astros bullpen is going to be a tough one.
  14. QUOTE(sec159row2 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) game 2 season 2006 paid attendence= 12,650 my prediction... It's going to be way over that. In 2001, the year after being swept in the playoffs, we still got 20,000 some fans to show up for that game. I'll say 25,000.
  15. I'm equally confident in beating either, but a White Sox-Cardinals series has a more classic feel to it (if that makes any sense). So I'm going with the Cards.
  16. I think we'll win against either team, but will still root for the Cardinals to at least make it a 7 game series. Just taking each team's history into account, a Sox-Cardinals WS sounds much cooler than Sox-Astros, at least IMO.
  17. Since this seems to be "Hot Stove" thread for the time being, and since most of us have a woody for Brian Giles, I thought I'd post this: Rosenthal Article I'd feel good about our chances of signing him if the main competition was the Cardinals or Cubs.
  18. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 07:59 AM) I think the first inning will tell the tale for the Sox. If they make some noise it will be good, if not I think they fall back to the offensive crap we are used to. Pods and Dye need to do something. I hope Dye is hitting 7th, with Carl hitting 3rd. Can't believe I said this but I think Carl needs to be moved back up. Can we give this a rest? Carl has been our worst hitter in the playoffs (.211/.250/.211). I honestly wouldn't mind if Ozzie gave Timo a start.
  19. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) Over $90 mil seems like a stretch to me. I could seem them maybe getting one big name guy if they happen to fall short this year ( they don't) to put them over the top, but not more than that. Plus their team philosophy still seems to be the team over any individual player, meaning I don't see them splurging too much. I could buy raises to the individuals already in their organization, but I don't think they'll ever be consistent players in FA, with the possible exception of 07 (there are some interesting players, but that's way too far off to worry about) if they decide they don't want some of their guys. It's going to take another seriously successful year after this one with a concurrent jump in attendance for them to get that high in terms of payroll in my book. Yeah, a good question to ask is what this season will do in terms of increasing White Sox season ticket sales. If that jumps up dramatically, which I sort of expect, I wouldn't think the $90M figure is out of the question. Triple digits is too much IMO.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) Hell, I woulnd't care if he was hitting .050 against lefties...I'd make that deal. a.) The kid's going to hit 40 home runs next year if he doens't get hurt, and maybe for the next decade too. b.) The kid has time to learn to hit lefties. It's going to be hard for him to hit 40 HR if he has approx. 200 ABs against LHP (this assuming he's a full-time player). I just don't like to give up a young starting pitcher entering his prime, regardless of what you get in return. Let's keep in mind the Sox were fortunate enough to go through the entire season without any injuries in the starting rotation. Trading away Garland gives you: Buehrle/Contreras/Garcia/McCarthy/Duque. You're pretty much guaranteed that Duque doesn't make every start, and this time you don't have another starter as good as BMac waiting in the wings. One of the other four get injured, and you're basically f***ed. I say keep all six guys on the roster, good SP is the most valuable commodity in baseball.
  21. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) This gives me a lineup of: Pods LF Furcal SS Thome/Delgado/Giles DH Konerko 1B Iguchi 2B Dye RF AJ C Crede 3B Anderson CF That looks like a really nice line-up but I won't get my hopes up. I get the feeling Kenny and Ozzie have a huge woody for the team chemistry thing, making Rowand and Uribe unlikely candidates to be traded. Hope I'm wrong... I also have my reservations with Thome. At 35 and with injury concerns, it's a real roll of the dice to have him on the payroll for that much money.
  22. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) I was thinking El Duque as the 5th starter. I actually thought the Sox misused him a bit this year. I thought they should be using him as a kind of "Sunday Starter" a la Lyons in his late career - once a week on 6 days' rest. He'd be much more effective as a 25-game-a-year starter, spaced out evenly, than to ask him to throw 32 starts as a part of a 5 man rotation. The other 7 starts are made up for by off days. It also depends on the hitter you get. I wouldn't trade Garland unless I could get a real good LH power hitter. I was thinking Overbay, who is in his prime and I think his 34 doubles and 19 homers turn into 27 doubles and 26 homers at the Cell, but there may be other examples. You might even be able to get another arm out of the Brewers for Garland. Garland for Ryan Howard is a no-brainer IMHO. You have to do better than Ryan Howard if you're trading Garland. Yeah, I know he's young and cheap, but he's basically Willie Harris hitting against lefties (.148/.175/.246).
  23. Waiting another day for Game 3 is going to be torture. I'm ready for them to play right now.
  24. My interest in signing Furcal basically depends on our overall payroll and our ability to secure legitimate #3 and #4 hitters. If we have money to burn AFTER those needs are met, then he'd be a good addition, even if he is overpaid.
