As an eternal pessimist I'm worried about two things heading into this game: (1) Mark Buehrle has an ERA over 6.00 against the Red Sox in each of the past two seasons, and (2) the Sox historically inept offense following a double-digit scoring performance.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) You people who are so cocky will be best served by not commenting. I don't CARE that Boston doesn't have the pitching. IMO, yesterday's game makes them even MORE dangerous. This is kind of like wounding the tiger. The tiger comes back at you even more pissed off. David Wells is a fatass, but he's a very smart fat ass. Don't count these guys out yet. You NEVER underestimate your opponent in the playoffs until the series is over. THEN you underestimate them while you're celebrating. PERIOD. Any other mindset, write down some tee times for next week. Good points. We should also keep in mind the Sox offensive output after scoring double digits in the previous game. I'm not expecting more than 3 runs tonight.

Please, anyone but Kittle.

Season Finale 10/2 Game Thread
Frankensteiner replied to AddisonStSox's topic in 2005 Season in Review
I would play Dye and Uribe today, they need some game action before heading into the playoffs. Maybe DH Konerko to give him a shot for 100 RBI. BTW, has there ever been a player to hit 40 HRs and not drive in a 100 runs? Seems a little pathetic... -
Hell's yeah.

C'mon Scotty. No K or popup.
-
Freddy looks interested so far.

Ok, I'm confused here. If we win today, do we win the division or just clinch a playoff spot? If they win tonight and sweep us at home, Cleveland could still finish with the same record. So wouldn't that necessitate a 1-game playoff for the division?
-
That's unreal. I'm sorry Carl.
-
Bad execution. That's the White Sox I know.
-
So what's the over-under on the total number of runs scored by the Sox in tomorrow's games? I'll say 6 and take the under.

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) "LINEUP CHANGE: Guillen said he is considering taking Carl Everett out of the designated hitter role today and using Paul Konerko as the DH with Ross Gload playing first base. Before getting a sixth-inning single Tuesday, Everett had five hits in his last 42 at-bats" suntimes article I will s*** my pants if that actually happens.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) Pods is on pace to score 81 runs and knock in 25. He really shouldn't be too hard to replace. Shouldn't the fact that he's on pace to score 81 runs be more of an indictment on the players following Pods in the batting order? As far as the 25 RBI, yeah he's not a power hitter. Thanks for the update.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) And that's why a lot of us want to trade him when his value is high. Yeah, makes perfect sense to me: trade away players that help your team win. We can have Willie Harris lead-off for us next year. Word is there's also plenty of teams looking for top of the rotation starters. Let's trade Buehrle and/or Garland while their values are high.

Pods in Sept: .325 AVG / .391 OBP. The guy is garbage, complete garbage.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) He had his two week DL trip to recover (for an injury that I'm not quite sure was ever too serious). All along, the Sox organization talked about resting his legs for the stretch run. Well, the stretch run has been going on, and Pods has been basically mediocre all around. Groin injuries are notorious for lingering. Just because you take two weeks off doesn't mean you'll be magically healed.

Brian Giles is a good idea. But with PK in line for a fat contract, I doubt we'd give out two huge contracts like that in the same winter. Still, replace Everett with Giles and you have a much better looking line-up.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) I said in the game thread, the 4 guys in the line-up I would be looking to replace are Rowand, Crede, Everett, and Pods I really don't have a problem with Pods at all. He's easily one of the top 5 leadoff hitters in the entire league. Problem is that he plays a position traditionally reserved for a power bat, so you either have to find a power bat for a defensive position (SS, 2B, CF, C) or bite the bullet and move him to CF. I agree with the rest.

Jesus Christ, it's Schoney time.

Slightly off topic I guess, but has anyone gotten Ozzie's post-game comments tonight. I've scanned a couple of threads and was wondering if they were posted anywhere?
-
Jose's been so good for so long that I've been nervous his last two starts thinking he's due for a bad one.
-
Cleveland LOB: 11. Kind of makes tonight easier to stomach.
-
Please be like the White Sox and strand these runners.

What really hurts is bringing in Joe f***ing Borowski (of all people) to pitch the 8th.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) Strikeout swinging over a breaking ball. I'm going with that as well.
