  1. HALPERIN’S TAKE: What John McCain Underestimates
  2. So much for this being the probama thread.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) Daily Show was very solid tonight.
  4. Daily Show was very solid tonight.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) Nope, I am sure that his past experiences have nothing to do with who he will recommend, that only happens when evil Republicians get involved. I probably should walk away from here now, as you won't want to understand what I am saying here. You haven't provided a shred of evidence to suggest that Johnson directly created the predatory lending fiasco. Insinuations don't hold much water.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) Because picking the second most powerful person on the planet doesn't affect policy? Come on. You know better than that. He's not selecting the VP. He is vetting the possible candidates. What about the Edwards and Ferraro choices leads you to believe that his Fannie Mae experience caused some sort of conflict of interest?
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 07:29 PM) The funniest part about it is that personally I don't have a problem with it. I prefer my officials to have corporate experience, as it aids them in understanding the business cycles and macro-economics. I have a problem with the two faced campaign that Obama is running here. I'd have much more respect for the guy if he actually put his money where his mouth is. This guy is not going to be VP. He is not part of the Obama cabinet. He was the CEO of Fannie Mae 10 years ago. I don't see the equivalent with what "we" have been complaining about for 8 years. GWB actually appointed his cronies to high level positions that actually affected policy. This guy is asked to help vet VP choices. To me it's apples to storm windows.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) Sounds like he is working private equity group. Much better. Based on Johnson's last 2 chances to help pick the Dem's VP (Ferraro and Edwards) I think it's obvious he has an extreme pro-housing market agenda that was intended to crush our economy and line his pocket book. /sarcasm
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) You're damned right there is. The VP is a MUCH bigger deal. First, he's not going to be the VP. Second, Darth Cheney excluded, when has a VP ever done anything worth noting (EDIT: in recent history)?
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) It probably won't impact voters at all, which is unfortunate. Its just another hint that dispite all of the propaganda otherwise, the exact same types of people are going to be running an Obama White House as a McCain White House or a Clinton White House. Its ironic that Obama has the gall to say he doesn't take money from special interest groups, yet hires a person responsible for the mortgage meltdown to help pick his VP. Yeah, I am sure there won't be any conflict there... Sort of like no one had a problem with Bush and Cheney picking energy executives to write energy policy, right? Big difference in the 2 things I highlighted.
  11. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) I think you are confusing outrage with something else. Everytime someone points out something wrong or something that doesn't look quite right, it isn't 'outrage'. Now if the reply would have been something like "That f&cking Obama chose that a$$hole to pick his vp! He couldn't pick his nose right, how's he gonna pick a vp!", you might have outrage. My point is this "issue" isn't even a blip an anyone's radar screen. A non-event if you will.
  12. IGN early review of Metal Gear 4 = 9.9 out of 10
  13. And my final attempt at bashing McCain's awful speech last night...
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) In other words his a Washington insider, a corporate head honcho, and a guy who helped shape the policies that led to the biggest banking crisis since 1929. He is pretty much one of the guys that he has turned into a villian on the campaign trail. Yeah, real change there I'm not sure what your issue is here. Obama is not asking him to be the VP. He's asked him to be part of the staff that vets the potential VP. Johnson isn't being asked to help out with policies or stances of the Obama campaign. I think you are manufacturing your own outrage. I honestly doubt this is something that will impact voters.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) Yes, it's politics as usual. I don't think Obama picked him because of his Fannie Mae experience. It might have to do with his experience in vetting VP choices. And by any chance do you know any of Johnson's stances on predatory lending? Was he a big proponent of it back in the day?
  16. Johnson served as Fannie Mae CEO from 1991 to 1998 and has a long history in both Washington politics and business. He served on the boards of numerous companies, including The Goldman Sachs Group, KB Home, and Target Corporation, and has been Vice Chairman of Perseus LLC. He also was a corporate finance managing director for Lehman Brothers. He was an executive assistant for Vice President Walter Mondale (1977-1981) and a U.S. Senate staff member. Johnson also helped screen running mates for Democratic presidential nominees Walter Mondale in 1984 and John Kerry in 2004.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Wait a sec... The former head of FNMA is one of the people heading Obama's Veep search? LMAO. And this is funny because?
  18. Some quality entertainment from TPM regarding McCain's speech last night. It's about 5 minutes long but worth watching all the way through. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/198681.php
  19. The Veepstakes begins...
  20. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) Fox IS that bad. They've even all but acknowledged it. Hannity + O'Reily? come on now. No kidding. Even their morning show went over the top in attacking Obama over the Rev Wright issue.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) Finally. She hasn't conceded yet. She'll probably at the inauguration in January claiming that she would make a better President.
  22. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) completely untrue. yes the game is lost, but you handle these things delicately. and she wasn't egging on her supporters, she said we're going to make a decision in the next couple of days. they all know what that means. and the reason she's talking w/ party leaders and such is to decide just that - what is BEST for the party. She's not in this for herself any more than Obama or McCain is. Wouldn't the best thing for the party be to support the nominee? He won last night. That wasn't even acknowledged. She didn't stop the crowds' boos or chants about Denver. She showed no interest in unifying this party.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) I like this deal Why?
  24. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) wait you really think she should've done that?!?!?!?! hell no man. these people came out to support you one last time - you don't crush their spirits like that. they don't deserve it. you let them have their fun for the last time. The game was lost. Why is she living in a delusional world and egging on her supporters? What happened to party unity? She's in it for herself and nothing else.
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 08:03 AM) I disagree. I think its going to be a close call, and if anything, I think its leaning a bit towards McCain at the moment. Lots of time between now and November though, so we'll see. What are you basing that on?
