QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) This is what 90% of American businesses do, and have done for a few decades. It is, unfortunately, the common model, and its part and parcel with the way executives are compensated. But this new trend is to cut/eliminate research and development, I don't remember this happening in the 90's. They are basically ensuring that future products they sell will suck and technological progress is slowed. Not a good recipe for success. But on a positive note, companies that actually invest wisely in R&D seem to be kicking ass. Such as Apple. I'll be honest, I didn't see Apple coming out as the major innovator in our economy a decade ago. They have impressed.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) Also the GDP deflator fell from 1.4 to .8. This articficially props up GDP. Not to mention the juicing provided by the gov't. So take these numbers with a grain of salt. Businessweek has a really intersting article about the GDP 'increase'. Seems compaines are selling out their future for a quick buck. Not a good sign. http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/conte...54034724383.htm

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 28, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) This is extremely sad on one hand and hysterical on others. http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelst...role-government Barneys Frank just says it like it is. Shhhhh... don't tell everyone the plan! But then him calling out Nader's irrelevancy is funny. Barney Frank is a f***ing idiot.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Without watching MSNBC or saying anything about their news coverage, one of the reasons this keeps coming up with Fox is that the word "News" there should actually be in quotes. Because Fox's "Hard News" is just as right leaning as their opinion programming. CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS News are all just as biased. They are just pro-Democrat, FOX is pro-GOP.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 24, 2009 -> 12:36 AM) Im taking Labor Relations (LER) 100 at U of I for an easy A and I must say Im so close to just going nuts and blasting at these people (its all online so its just angry posting really, I wouldnt yell at a teacher or a student in a class, ever). Im a pretty moderate person when it comes to politics, I have alot of views on both sides of the spectrum but these people are ridiculous. They are comparing our labor relations to that of European countries while completely keeping out the financial troubles that have resulted due to many of these programs or the cost to have such laws. I also hate the blind drones who follow every word the TA or prof says just to look good. if you want your easy 'A' you'll just have to memorize your professors opinion and disconnect yourself from any sense of intellectualism. anything else will cost you.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) ObamaCo does the right thing here: executives at 7 companies who were bailed out and haven't paid it all back yet are ordered to slash their bonuses and pay. this is outrageous. those best and brightest at AIG earned their pay! after all those negotiations to land lucrative bailout contracts, now they don't even get that bonus they wanted.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) I think its funny you choose the 7 months number, which is actually 5 months of big jobs losses, followed by the economic trends reversing the past two months. But really, the stimulus bill was never going to be a huge boost within the first 6 months anyway. No one ever said it would be. ah, so you predict in another year and a half the Obama numbers will have played out? i don't think there will be any jobs recovery until, at best, 2014. if ever. I think those jobs are gone for good. but lets all hope i'm wrong.
