Ben Wallace traded!!!
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 05:39 PM) I woudl think that would be the case. I really wanted Pax to flip someone for some picks, but this was a great trade. I have no idea what Cle was thinking. I'm sure they were thinking along the lines of Wallace finding that old touch next to Z. He was the best when next to Rasheed Wallace, basically being the ignored one who needn't ever even think about touching the ball. Ben Wallace fits that system perfectly, and I think will bounce back with the Cavs. I still don't see why they'd do it. Wallace was a cancer for us and the team is better by him being gone alone. Then you look at Drew Gooden who is still only 26 damn years old, you get Hughes who at least wants the shot (though he's glass and not very good when he takes the shot), and two young players. I'm in love with Simmons.

Ben Wallace traded!!!
Don't underestimate what we got in Cedric Simmons. Simmons is a high upside guy, he was basically Cleveland's Tyrus. He was drafted just after Thabo and Ronnie Brewer. DraftExpress rated him as a "project" and said best case scenario was a "Poor Man's Dwight Howard" and worst case was Kendrick Perkins. Read below all that they had to say about him. link

the deal PAX DID A GREAT JOB HERE. Simmons and Brown are both valuable, especially Simmons.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) What a load of garbage. If we want a selfish shoot first guard that doesn't really play much D, we could just keep Gordon. If a deal doesn't dump Wallace, I don't want to see it happen. He's got to be wrong. It's not Gordon, its Wallace. There'd be no reason to do Gordon/Duhon for Hughes.

QUOTE(JFields27 @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) bucher just threw up another 2 min before 2 oclock saying that Cavs first plan is to get Wally from Seattle and that the backup deal was Hughes to the Bulls for Gordon and Duhon which is interesting Check this out.... from ESPN regarding the other possible Cleveland trade Two of my most plugged-in sources say that the big trade Cleveland is pursuing, as our good friend Brian Windhorst warned us about in his Akron Beacon Journal blog, is a multi-player exchange that would bring Ben Wallace to the Cavs. We have not been apprised that any deal is close or received a reliable read on the Bulls' level of interest, but we have been assured that it is being discussed: Wallace and teammates Chris Duhon and Joe Smith heading to Cleveland in exchange for a package headlined by Drew Gooden ... and Larry Hughes. It could also be done with several other Cavs in Hughes' place, so we'll have to see if the Bulls simply pass, push for an alternative scenario or accept Hughes and allow Cleveland to proceed to Part 2. Cleveland's other 11th-hour Cleveland trade target to hearten LeBron James, after Jason Kidd and Mike Bibby landed elsewhere, is Seattle's Wally Szczerbiak, who holds appeal for LeBron's Cavs as a dead-eye shooter and as a college-ball legend in Ohio. It appears that the Cavs' preference is scoring Wallace first and then trying to add Szczerbiak. But the Cavs' usual obstacle -- they have only three expiring contracts (Ira Newble, Devin Brown and Shannon Brown) totaling not even half of the $13.3 million owed Wally next season to package with Donyell Marshall -- make a successful play for Wally difficult even if the Wallace stuff doesn't go any farther.

QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) God I hope this is for real. If Danks has mastered a cutter, then I really really feel good about him next year. With Floyd being praised beyong belief, Danks appearant "sick" cutter, and MacDougal doing really well, there is a LOT to be excited about these Spring Training games. This is the kind of s*** you read about every year. Everyone is either in the best shape of their lives and looking amazing come the first few days of spring training.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) I think both will surprise this year. They both have the stuff. Its amazing the same people who are broken hearted over Garland moving on, are the same people crapping on some young kids getting a shot. Garland was anything but a sure thing a few years back. Or do people forget Judy. GIve them a chance. If they suck, then move them out and try someone else out. Meh, never was a huge Jon fan. However, I think its much easier to stomach depending on one unknown youngster in the rotation, not two... couple that with praying JC comes back. We're talking 3 ? marks in the rotation. One thing you knew you were getting out of Garland was 200 innings of just better than league average pitching. I'm not too concerned though, I'm not expecting a WS this year, and Garland being here instead of Cabrera wouldn't change that one bit.

NBA to hold outdoor game in preseason
QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) The NBA is becoming more of a joke every year. The trades that have been going on lately have totally ruined the integrity of the game. Teams are trading huge stars for nothing and it has turned into an arms race in the West now. I know they blocked it from happening but what happened with Stackhouse was ridiculous too. It is pretty funny that teams have to piss money away to a retired Keith Van Horn just to get a BS trade done. Something needs to be re-worked, because having him involved in a deal is a bit ridiculous.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) Er...don't they play tennis in that stadium? And that ball seems to be a little lighter and...um...smaller. So, I think it'll be fine. And it's a great idea. In fact, I think they should do it during the season in a warm weather climate. Yeah, but tennis is an outdoor game, NBA basketball is not. from AOL Sports full article- White Sox about to sign Bartolo Colon?
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) Signing Colon would be the equivalent to signing El-duque in 2005 IMO. HE came off a couple years of bad injuries but pitched respectable as a 5th starter and won 10 games... When El-duque had his shoulder soreness- McCarthy was ready to come up and pitch. I think Danks being the 6th starter and spending time in triple-a for some seasoning wouldn't be a bad thing. Im all for this move... its a minor risk worth taking. I couldn't agree more. If they do sign Colon (nowhere do I see this confirmed) I think it's a very smart move. - DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
