2013-2014 NHL thread
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) Why do I constantly feel like we're going to be looking at the Crawford and Bickell deals as the reasons why we lose a guy like Patrick Sharp? There's much worse ramifications that could come out of this. Sharp is Sharp. Losing a Toews or Kane would be the real issue (make no mistake, they're the reason we matter now and they're the reason we should matter ten years from now).

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 12:00 PM) The Bulls have a President of Player operations who punched out a coach. Their medical staff nearly killed a player. The GM fired the coaches favorite assistant for talking s*** at a local charity event. They are not a well run organization. They do have a good mascot. All of these points are very true.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) I also appreciate when bandwagon fans lecture people on who they can and can't root for... Wait. Who's bandwagon here? J4L would die if the Bulls won another championship, as would I. Being pissed doesn't make him any less of a fan.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) So, I don't like MJ as a person (though my grandma did see him film a Hanes ad in Chicago and thought he was handsome), but Steve's sentence is kind of unfair. While it is terribly selfish to gamble to the point of a family member in trouble, it's not like he wanted his father to die if that scenario would be true. Whoa dude, you read way too much into my post. I have never, no ever will, blamed MJ for his father's death. I was just making a crack about how there's always something "worse" people could do. I could have gone with rape, but, that'd be too far even for me!

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) Well this has been one of the more interesting offseasons of the last 5 years, that's for sure. Most enjoyable offseason for me since pre 2005.

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) I love Danks and all he's done, but if they could seriously just give Danks away right now, I wouldn't care. This minus the love part.

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) The Sox apparently have earmarked some money for him if its in the right arena. They had a budget meeting weeks ago and apparently have had the calculator nerds in there all week. This brought me joy.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) MJ fell short of sainthood, but gambling and extramarital sex are not exactly the most serious charges for a professional athlete. YEAH HE COULD HAVE F*CKING KILLED SOMEBODY

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 07:42 PM) You rooted for an adulterer who punched teammates in the face and called a guy he drafted a flaming f***ing f***** who also was a compulsive gambler and has people to this day that still believe his gambling led to a suspension and his father getting wacked. You could root for a guy who's only sin in life is a f***ing espn special. Close this thread. Post of the year.

I'd walk around with an erection for the entirety of a LeBron-Bulls career. Too bad it won't happen.

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) If the Sox pull off what many here regard as "The Impossible" and sign Tanaka, does that change anyone's perception of the Sox chance to win this season? Or does everyone leave 2014 as "work in progress"? They pitched fine last year and stunk. There's still WAY too many variables on offense to think they'd be any good. Our (arguably) best hitter has never seen a Major League pitch, for Christ's sake.

Movies Based on Books
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 11:35 AM) Bringing Malcolm back from the dead in order to write The Lost World because of his movie popularity was such a terrible decision. And conversely, not killing off Hammond at the end of the movie was an equally bad decision. One of the things that bugs me the most about the movie is the misrepresentation of Hammonds character. A funny thing is that his son in the second movie is closer to what Hammond was in the books, a greedy capitalistic SOB that would stop at nothing to get what he wanted, and ultimately died because of his bad decisions. Yes. It really pissed me off as well that they made Hammond some jovial near-nincompoop. That said, movie was still excellent.

2014 Films Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) Steve, Gone Girl was one of my favorite reads of the last several years, I am betting they butcher the movie and I leave in disappointment. The suspense and different viewpoints is going to be hard to capture. I've read it 3 times this year and just love it. Yeah - it was such a f***ing wild book.
