MLB network trade idea
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) I'd rather flip him for Lincecum and Posey. Only if they take the Teahen contract, too.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) Name recognition to create buzz and attempt to get more people to watch? That. It's still dumb. He's no All-Star this year. Sharp getting in is great, though.

Suits
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) I was in banking for 5 years until this past July. The last two banks I was employed by required you wear a suit everyday. There was a Jos. A. Bank in Danada Square which I conveniently drove by everyday that got a lot of my business. Macy's too. Now that I've left the industry I have a dozen suits in my closet that haven't seen the light of day since July. I kinda miss wearing a suit everyday. It definately got me attention from girls if I went out or met up with people right after work. You don't have to be wearing a suit to work to SUIT UP aftewards!

alexei and beckham
I've given up trying to figure out Ozzie Guillen lineups. That is not his bread and butter as a manager (hell, neither is bullpen management). Where his value really comes is team morale management. Game management, not so much.

2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (Cali @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) I might be in the minority on Mad Men, but I found seasons three and four FAR superior to one and two. Especially the first season, the snails pace it went was a little rough, but the acting and characters were too good to give up. The pace picked up in the later seasons without sacrificing any of the acting or character development. I don't think anyone has complained about seasons 3 and 4. Pretty much with every episode come the "holy s*** this show just keeps getting better and better" comments.

So your company wants to give you a promotion...
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Congrats! Thanks Sqwerty. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 04:29 PM) Yeah, the key is to choose the highest number possible without hitting the "oh geez" point where they roll their eyes at you. They posted a range in the listing. I am going to start out high in the range but not at the highest point. Congrats on the raise, Steve! Thank you too, good luck and keep us posted.

So your company wants to give you a promotion...
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) So it looks like early next week they are going to offer me this position, with a starting date of Jan 31st if I accept. I hate to seem crude, but this is all going to come down to $. If they make it worth my while to make the switch, I will take a bit of a leap of faith. If they just expect me to switch over for some promotion in title only, well, that title isn't enough to make me do it. Should be an interesting week. Perhaps I should read the Art of War over the weekend. Now is the time to go for the money yo. What you pull of in negotiations could put you 1-4 years ahead in terms of reviews/raises. Your best chance to make money is during negotiations. I recommend going in with a high number.

Completely unrelated I randomly got a 6.5% raise just for "doing a great job". Awesome.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) But yeah, there are problems with the tail end of the lineup, but if they don't figure it out at the top, they aren't going anywhere. They need to make some hay with all these home games this month - 6 left, only 2 road. If they are still at the same spot going into February, it's going to be a large hill to climb. Yeah, we really need our big boys to do some damn heavy lifting. Toews and Sharp are the only ones playing remotely well.

Realistic Adam Dunn expectations
QUOTE (DOWNTOWN PANTHER @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 07:18 AM) The former Texas Longhorn QB recruit may have a big name, but has hit more meaningless roundtrippers than anyone in the game. As a Cincinnati Reds fan I can tell you that the Reds were drastically better without him. He can hit the long ball, but strikes out a ton. There is a reason he has floated from team to team since leaving Cincinnati. Unless they do a movie about Will Farrells life, Adam Dunn will be best known as the most overrated power hitter of this baseball generation. Thats just my opinion. That's a funny, inaccurate statement. The Reds dealt him at the end of his contract to the Diamondbacks. It was his walk year, and he signed with the Nationals during one of the weirder offseasons in MLB history given the floundering economy for 2 years. That contract was up and he hit free agency, signing with the White Sox. That's not really bouncing around... one team traded him in his walk year when they stunk.
