2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
IlliniKrush replied to He_Gawn's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I saw the line at 18.5 and 19.5, wonder how that stacks up. Edit: Here you go... According to SC: TCU had a 4.5% chance of winning according to the BPI game predictor. Ranks entering game Kansas 6th, TCU 246th. Larger gap in BPI than any of 1 vs 16 matchups in 2012 Men's basketball championship. So essentially there's your 1/16 upset. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) Really, season ticket demand for the NHL is that high? Well it obviously depends on the market, but in Chicago? Uh, yeah. -
I like how Gronkowski is the new Kaner.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) They are definitely not a tourney team, not even a question IMO. Just ILL fans going from one extreme to the other. Fixed -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 12:38 PM) I think it is more about advancing his career than the money. I'm not sure, but I think Steve is around 30 and no kids? That's not the time to be afraid to step outside of his comfort zone... True he wants career advancement, but the first post he made simply said 50% increase, so it has to be a huge factor. After all, you usually advance your career to make more money. So it all comes back to that. I'm not saying what I'd do in this situation, but I don't think it's a slam-dunk.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) I'm mostly concerned with ruining my morning workout schedule, as stated. Just being stupid - we'll see. I don't think you're being stupid, I think it's a tough decision. Money isn't everything - lifestyle, downtime/flexibility, commute are huge factors. Depends how much you want more money and/or need the money, plus how much the 50% raise is. Another thing to keep in mind is your wife's schedule and any sort of family schedule when you have a kid.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 08:25 AM) I seriously despise Ray Lewis. Anyone who likes him doesn't have a brain.

Terrible timeout management by Jim and the 49ers. And questionable play calling on the last 4 plays. Burn your first timeout in the 3rd quarter while way behind. You have to play like you'll get back in it, and need it to stop it late. You knew that would come back to bite them. So they move forward with 2 and have both on the last drive. You either use both, or use none. Saving one didn't do anything, you knew you'd get the ball back with no time left if you only had one left. They take a timeout before 3rd down (IIRC) before almost getting a delay of game. The call to Crabtree was also terrible - throwing the ball 2 yards and had he caught it he was going nowhere. Would have liked to not have used a timeout in case you didn't get in, and leave yourself with 40ish seconds left if you get a stop. But since they did, you might as well have used your last one before 4th down.

Why the f*** would you return a kick 9 yards deep in the....oh, okay then.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) Illinikrush how can you forget me man? Sox and Tigers last game of the season! That was me you were sitting next to LMAO. Here's the thing. I thought I saw long term potential until it donned on me we don't share many common interests. That's what this new girl brought to the table. She's not a co-worker she just works at the same university. My current girlfriend is great but she's just missing that X factor. Now I'm aware that this might be sheer infatuation with this new girl and I'm not trying to base a decision on that impulse. I know that if I keep seeing both women that's the epitome of having my cake and eating it. I'm trying to nip it at the bud before I get into the "player" territory. I remember you, just didn't know how old you are...

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) Thank god the NHL lockout ended, cause I'm done watching Illini b-ball for the year. Stopped watching about the same time last year and it did me well. Enjoy your bye on Thursday Hoosier fans. It would be SO Illinois to make it a great game and possibly pull the upset. Bye bye seniors. You're garbage. It's like McCamey, Tisdale, and Davis again....except worse. -
Here's my live at the Super Bowl prediction! 49ers 27, Ravens 24.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) I have a pretty delicate situation. Here's the story: I have been dating a woman for a year and couple of months now. She is a really sweet girl and I like her. However a week ago, I met a new woman by coincidence and we started talking. I have so much more in common with this girl and we connected really fast. I am started to have feelings for this girl and I am already feel like it's tearing me up inside. I like my girlfriend a lot but I wasn't aware that I was so vulnerable to a new woman swooping in like this. I'm not sure if this post is too vague for a response but if anyone needs any clarification, I'll be had to shed a light on it. Thanks in advance for the responses. If your gut says the new girl is it, time to be honest and cut ties with the old one before it becomes really hurtful. If you're having that strong of feelings for another girl, it doesn't appear to me that you like/love the first one that much. Do you see long-term potential in the first one? I'm not sure how old you are or what you're looking for, but somewhere that has to be in the back of your mind.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) Don't we have someone here that works for REI? Squirt? I ask because I just had the worst customer service experience (no exaggeration) in my life at my local REI store and I'm stunned. The dude was being a smug asshole and lectured me on why I shouldn't be returning an item that I bought. He wasn't going to do it at first, but said this time he would. He said that they "don't do returns" unless the product is damaged in some way. He also told me REI wasn't a rental store for people to try stuff out and bring it back. Considering all the tags were on the pullover I was returning, I have no idea what the hell he was talking about. Like, yeah dude, I was definitely wearing this around town with all the tags still on it. Anyway, if this is how their customer service people are taught to act, then I'm never shopping there again. And I love REI so it will sadden me to do that. I've spent lots of money there in my life, but never had to return something until now. You'd think they'd treat their long time customers better (not that he had any way of knowing that, except for I guess my membership # was on the receipt). That's brutal. I normally don't go out of my way to complain about someone, but if it's something like that, I'd feel better bringing that up to a manager or calling someone else about it, especially since you still want to shop there and not have one bad apple ruin it. If everyone else is normally great to you, hopefully it was an isolated incident. Hell, if you explain your situation and how much money you spend there, someone may give you a special offer or something. Also, they "don't do returns?" I'm pretty sure they have a written policy (I don't know what it is) that was likely on the receipt. I don't know that I would have been able to hold back from pointing to it and saying "actually, says here you do"

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 09:27 AM) I was wondering about that. The way he reacted was like a fight was about to break out or something. At first I thought it had to do with the ref who just passed him. It was pretty confusing. -

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 08:49 AM) He did, after the time expired. Didn't count. Not something I would recommend doing, but it was after the clock expired and I have to assume he was doing it for the fans. I'm sure they will tell him not to do so again because the opposition could perceive it a different way. Seemed to more of a celebratory thing than an "in your face" kinda thing. Outside of IU fans, it's pretty easy to realize how it was "perceived" -

So Oladipo apparently did a windmill dunk as the clock expired, which is why Crean had that weird stare. Classy. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 2, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) Digger just made a fantastic point: The big 10 as a league is overrated because Illinois was 12 and 1 out of conference and is now 2 and 6 in conference, Minnesota has lost 4 in a row so while we thought the big 10 was the best conference in the country, it clearly has been proven to be overrated. What? Yeah, that was stupid.
