  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 07:00 PM) Major math Fail there Phil, lol. "Houston should kick a quick field goal so they can onside kick and throw a hail mary." Awesome Phil, they were down 13, so New England would still win by 3. Yeah, somehow I think he missed NE kicking that FG to make it 41. That's the only thing I can think of.
  2. Sometimes it actually makes sense to not go for two right way. Sure you know what you need, but so does the opponent. Down 15, so one of the 2 touchdowns needs a 2 pointer. You score a touchdown. If you go for the 2 point conversion and miss, it's now a 2 score game (down 9), and the opponent can play that a bit differently. Take your 7, and the opponent plays like it's a one score game, as it's an 8 point margin. They may have to play less conservatively, which could lead to a mistake and an easier way to get back into the game. It puts pressure on your opponent. You also have to throw like hell down 2 scores, which is easier to stop. If you make the other defense play like it's a one score game, it may open up things you wouldn't have otherwise had. Chances are if you miss the 2 point conversion in most instances the game is over anyway, so might as well keep the game as alive as possible while you can. I definitely see both sides of it, but coaches constantly wait to go for two in the situation above. I don't think all of them could possibly be wrong.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) As an unbiased observed in the OSU/Michigan game, that was a brutal call on the Burke and-1 that was negated. This. It also could have been ruled intentional, he was just trying to hack him from behind. To get neither that nor the and-1...yikes.
  4. The timeout/no time out isn't really an issue. He should be questioned for allowing Ryan to complete 2 relatively open throws to receivers to get in FG range. I still can't believe Atl called TO right away with :13 for no reason, as they had no timeouts left anyway...then essentially onside kick it to have a chance to lose on a hail mary, and still escape.
  5. Just stupidity by Atlanta all around last 15 seconds. Wow.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 10:55 AM) Alright. Lets at least be competitive today ok fellas. By your recent logic, Michigan is playing the "f*** it's a road game" game today. So I don't know why you were worried, LOL.
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) Michigan looking like Illinois. How dare you insult Michigan like that.
  8. Doubt too many people still think Smith should be starting.
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) Anywho, good start Illinois... Wait, the game started? Someone should tell them pretty soon.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) Just compliments your opponent. Just as dumb as the overrated chant IMO. Yup, it essentially degrades your own team. That's why it's stupid.
  11. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) For those of you who may have forgotten or need some pointers, there is a free basketball clinic going on right now in Assembly Hall. Coverage on BTN. I saw the 2nd half of the "clinic" - wasn't very good.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 05:50 PM) Not just one play call in 2010. Try reading comprehension. It helps. Nice cherry pick. What he said stands. Try to come up with a logical way to explain it besides he made a few bad play calls, as any coach does. Missing the forest for the trees much? "I don't understand how after so many years of struggling and being irrelevant, a team gets a coach who brings them into the National Championship Game and a fan would want to get rid of him"
  13. This thread makes me hungry...though for what, I'm not sure. What's the opportunity cost of a bowl of cereal?
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 09:05 PM) Brian Kelly is talking to the Eagles. I'll help him look for a house in Philly if he wants. Who do you want as coach, Touchdown Jesus?
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) For the banner raising ceremony. I'd have to assume that game winds up on NBC Sports Network. Plus the Bulls are home that night anyway.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 11:37 AM) Well if you were a recruit and UK, Duke, Louisville, MSU etc came knocking on the door, what is the draw to go downstate to Illinois? There are so many cooks in the kitchen going after chicago recruits that its hard to have any loyalty to a team that has no real identity in the city. Kam's
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 06:05 PM) The NCAA's do it for three weekends and for 68 teams. Still not the same. At those weekends you've got 4 teams (sometimes 8) filling stadiums that aren't the size of football venues. You don't have fanbases traveling (or expected to travel) in such large numbers until the Final Four.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) It hasn't stopped NCAA basketball from filling up football stadiums for the final 4. That's the championship round at one spot, and people aren't traveling back and forth. Not the same as having 2 fanbases fill a football stadium 3 different times for an 8 team playoff.
  19. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) I believe the SEC would be willing to agree to a format that guarantees them 1/4 of the revenue no matter what happens. And you are making my point. With uneven schedules, etc none of this really matters. Its all just for fun, which is why I think the simplest solution 4 conference champs, is the best solution.
  20. Yes I know rankings don't matter. And id point this out even if it wasn't Illinois. But come on. You shouldn't be allowed to vote if you're this stupid or biased. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball...and-who-and-who
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 10:05 PM) He's not normally. To be honest, he's blinded because he's Catholic and thus overrates ND. His comments are gold right now. "There's no denying that Bama is an amzing football team, but I still stand by the fact the Notre Dame had the most entertaing and best season this year" Tell him to take it like a man.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 07:41 AM) Alabama's perception is based on their performance in the SEC, which is proving to be weaker than people thought, but if you want to hand me some money by giving me ND and 10 points, I'll gladly take it. What will he buy with his winnings? QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) You need new friends. Yeah. Why are you friends with sports idiots?
  23. Hickory will say the debatable calls early cost them all the momentum, or something equally ridiculous
