  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2012 -> 06:26 PM) Yes you can. You can turn a little bit and it will change your sight line slightly and you won't be looking directly into the sun but still see the ball. In fact, Rios did exactly that earlier in the game. He had plenty of time to do it. If it were more of a line drive, I may give a guy paid as much as he's paid a break, but there are plenty of high school RF who would have caught that ball. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) He was camped under the ball. There is no excuse. He could have looked from an angle, he could have used the webbing of his glove as a blind. If Adam Dunn were out there, I could see where it could be a problem, but an everyday OF, no way. You need to go out and take some fly balls. "Turning a little bit" doesn't change the fact that you are looking back up directly into the sun. Turning doesn't put the ball or the sun in a different place, and you're still standing in the same spot - where the ball is landing. Again, ball into sun = doesn't matter what you are shielding or trying to shield. You can't shield the sun and suddenly only have the ball appear. It's not a magic show.
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 18, 2012 -> 05:49 PM) my bold, to reiterate my point that I think he was trying to knock him down You're seeing what you want to see there, that's clearly not what that means. It's unfortunate because if it wasn't high, it's not even a story, and he would have been in the game.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 18, 2012 -> 05:29 PM) Are you satisfied with what was done today? One purpose pitch thrown way way behind LaFair or whatever his name is? What actually was done? I would have enjoyed hearing Ozzie rant about the p**** Cubs throwing at and hitting in the face one of the best players in Chicago baseball history. You need a new TV or something. The pitch was right at him, and narrowly missed him as he moved towards the plate.
  4. QUOTE (kev211 @ May 18, 2012 -> 05:06 PM) Haha I'm 22. I just graduated College, sure I can go out and drink(like I will tonight) but it's no longer socially acceptable to go out and get smashed and blacked out. Those days are over. Kane is 23(?) those days are over for him as well. Enjoy being 21 and most likely your last year of college because after that its expected that you grow up. Expected of him, but won't happen for a long time, if ever.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ May 18, 2012 -> 04:24 PM) I expect a pro to be able to adjust his angle and not let that happen. However, Rios doesn't play many day games, has rarely played in Wrigley, and I assume he won't let it happen again. No big deal. Again, you can't. You're standing in the spot where the ball will land. To adjust the angle enough to get the ball out of the sun, you'd have to run at least 10 feet to the left or right, as it's coming down. Unfortunately, the sun wins sometimes.
  6. For those of you that played outfield, regardless of sunglasses and mitt, you know that if the ball goes into the sun on the way down, you're f***ed. That's the worst.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 18, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) You don't think he threw at Paulie on purpose? Did you see his interviews yesterday? He's a badass and threw at the guy who blasted a two-run home run. Yes talking about an announcer means you will throw at someones head guaranteed. With a breaking ball.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 18, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) I disagree. He was headhunting our best player after his home run. You are seriously beyond clueless
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 18, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) Samarj should have been ejected. The umpires blew that one. Guy hits home run and colorful pitcher hits batter in the face the next at bat? I do wish we'd have drilled him instead of throwing at the other Cub, but at least Humber threw at one of them. You need a new hobby
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2012 -> 02:44 PM) No way. Gordon went through the runner like a running back hitting a LB. He knocked him off of the base. That was a terrible call. Correct. The slide was not taking him off the base at all everything was initiated by the fielder.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 18, 2012 -> 02:37 PM) Well, here comes the fight and the ejections. Sox have to throw each pitch at Samarjia (sp). Dumb
  12. If you are going to hit someone id wait. Hitting him here could be game over for Humber. And no it wasnt intentional.
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:37 PM) I don't remember Patrick Kane making ridiculous claims to the media about how cocky he was and that he would be called up when he wants to be called up, etc. I see what you are trying to do here, but you are failing miserably. I see what you are trying to do here, but you are failing miserably.
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) Sorry to interrupt the Kaner alcholism/sweathogging conversation, but an #8 seed is about the make the Finals and probably be the favorite, crazy stuff. The Kings look good, think they just major under acheived in the regular season. Even with all the upsets every year, no seed higher than a #5 has ever won the Cup. During the season the Kings would've struggled to score a goal with a HS goalie in net. It was bizarre.

  16. QUOTE (Tex @ May 17, 2012 -> 10:21 AM) She isn't responsible for the math, she is responsible for the scores on each hole. There really isn't any other way to do it. She signed that she made a par on 18 when she made a bogey. That can not be tolerated. Any penalty less than being DQ's would invite people to accidentaly turn in false scores. Remember, this isn't like any other sport, in golf you report your score. Yet there are people that go through with them and know exactly what they scored on each hole, correct? Otherwise how would they know it was incorrect? Have them keep the damn score. People would turn in false scores, even knowing they would get caught? This whole thing is like ending a basketball game, having the star come off the court and quiz him. "I think we won 68-61." No I'm sorry it was 68-62, the other team wins now. The whole thing is beyond stupid.
  17. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ May 17, 2012 -> 07:14 AM) That call was terrible I would be ok if Lawrie pushed him to the ground..... if you aren't going to call the game right don't be an ump. You're classy.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 16, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) Wow, sounds so much like Patrick Kane. I guess since Lawrie wasn't wasted he doesn't get a free pass from you. A "reality check" is exactly what Patrick Kane needs. LMAO QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 16, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) I bet the umpire acting like a douche made Lawrie's punishment a little bit less severe. False, there's a 0% chance his actions had anything to do with how long a suspension is. Plus, calling a pitch a strike in no way warrants hitting or throwing objects towards umpires, period.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 16, 2012 -> 05:12 PM) Spare me. These assholes are making it a headache for the hundreds of thousands that work downtown, and their little get together accomplishes NOTHING. Yay to them for spending the time/energy to do this, but I don't feel sorry at all considering a good chunk of them have one goal and that's to f*** with people/destroy things, not to peaceably assemble in protest. These are organizations with histories of doing this stuff year after year. To paint them as hippies holding hands in a circle singing songs is dishonest. Right on. People who inconvenience others who have NOTHING to do with any of it to try to make some point should all be pepper sprayed. Can't stand people that block people from walking, block cars, break s***, etc. Go get a f***ing life.
  20. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ May 16, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) NU's upcoming out of conference slates: 2012- Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Boston College, and South Dakota 2013- Cal, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, and Maine 2014- Cal, Vanderbilt, Western Illinois and Notre Dame 2015- Cal, Ball State, Army and Duke I don't see a whole lot of Charleston Southern's or Louisiana Tech's in there. Yeah, let's play this game, comparing Illinois to NW in the non-conference. I'm not sure if you're ready for this. From alioneye.com: Illinois hasn’t played a non-conference opponent with a below .500 record since Syracuse in 2007. Northwestern hasn’t played a non-conference FBS opponent with an at-or-above-.500 record since Nevada in 2007. Here’s the lists: So if you include our other non-conference games in 2007 (11-1 Missouri and 2-10 Syracuse) and theirs (6-6 Nevada), here’s the cumulative totals for the regular season records of the last 15 Illinois and Northwestern non-conference FBS opponents: Illinois Fighting Illini: 123-57 (.683) Northwestern Purple People: 47-133 (.261)
  21. Every time a huge military chopper flies through the city, I have this slight worry for a millisecond that we're under attack or something.
  22. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 16, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/5...-bowl-landscape Sounds like the Big 10 may drop its alliance with certain bowls to create more variety. Also may increase bowl eligibility to 7 games. Best part: Coaches like Northwestern's Pat Fitzgerald and Purdue's Danny Hope oppose the increase from six to seven wins, but they're in the minority. ************** With NW's garbage non conference schedule year after year after year, this comes as no surprise. If NW could play 6 s***ty non conference games to be eligible, they would.
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 16, 2012 -> 12:07 AM) How do you know it is factoring in? How do you know that it's not? We can play this game forever. However he came into camp last year out of shape and not ready, and I know people within the organization that have talked about his drinking habits, including nights before games. Again, they were hesitant to sign him to a long term contract because of it. If the Hawks think it's that big of a problem, it is, regardless of what any of us think.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 15, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) But the only excuse is alcohol & partying, right? No way his wrist injury affected him, or the position changes, or just had an off year which happens. He had his lowest shooting percentage of his career, which luck can play a certain factor into. Not only excuse. But it shouldn't factor in at all, that's the problem.
