  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 30, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) I got my first real job because I worked my ass off as an unpaid intern with the Blackhawks while being an Assistant Manager at Blockbuster during all my off time. That internship was an instant conversation starter in interviews, and I wound up picking a job out of multiple offers - something you don't expect as a Marketing professional breaking into the business. So yeah, I got lucky that the internship I chose opened doors for me simply because it was interesting to multiple hiring managers. I also got lucky that Jim Blaney loved me during my internship interview, because I was actually a fan of a dead team. I took a pretty similar path, free internship that was good on a resume and helped me network to get the next job. LOL at the Jim Blaney reference.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) But the Hawks are more than just disappointed in Kane. A team source told the Sun-Times that some in the organization have suggested that Kane seek help. “He’s obviously got some issues,” the source said. “How many more times can these things happen? It’s a much bigger thing than some photographs in a 48-hour window.” Yup. Just a college kid doing college things. No big deal. No one in the Hawks front office knows what college is like. I'm sure Joe is there now spreading the word about how it works. Even though, you know, Kane isn't in college.
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 29, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) Bernstein says the organization has reached out to his parents to help get him under control, and his dad is an ass and loves his drink just as much as Kane and has no desire to slow Kane down. Well this means one thing, Joe now has to go down to the UC and tell the organization how unreasonable they are being, as he's only a kid.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 29, 2012 -> 11:46 AM) Despite his s***ty series vs Phoenix, I'm very glad Oduya is back. Although that probably eats up most of the remaining cap space, his old contract was for $3.5 million Why? QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 29, 2012 -> 01:01 PM) $3.375 cap hit for Oduya. Unless someone gets traded, no room for any other big FA signing And 3.375. Brutal on top of it.

  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 28, 2012 -> 10:26 PM) Sorry, I figured the last line of the 2nd paragraph was good enough to let you guys figure that out for yourselves. You don't have your apartment yet, so I'm trying to connect the dots here...
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ May 28, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) That bit with Hawk blowing up the Metrodome was Emmy-worthy. Problem is he was in it when he did it. Suicide bomber. Never made sense, they showed that last year too.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2012 -> 08:58 AM) I know, as usual, the self-professed expert on what everyone should be thinking, knows all. We're not talking opinion, we're talking facts. Again, do you know where it comes from? I'm not talking about us Sox fans liking the Cubs losing. That's a given.
  9. I don't understand how you can consider yourself a fan of the league/sport and then just not care about the most important 4-7 games of the entire season. Doesn't follow.
  10. I don't think you know where the term "fun bad" comes from. It's actually insulting them more to say it's past the point of fun bad.
  11. Why exactly did they need shoot him? You can't just remove a naked man from the other guy without shooting him?
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 26, 2012 -> 11:22 PM) Sorry Commish. Please send me the address where I should mail in my NHL fan card, I obviously don't deserve one. Correct. If you have ZERO interest in the Stanley Cup Finals, you can't call yourself an NHL fan.
  13. Wait until you see highlights of vandy vs Florida. Vandy 5 runs in top of 9th including 6 steals 3 of them being on a triple steal
  14. QUOTE (The Critic @ May 26, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) Two separate concepts, not related in any way. You brought up leaving a movie with 5 minutes left and I commented on the idea of leaving a movie early. It was assumed the movie was good aka the playoffs
  15. Again, you do what you want, but you can't really be a big NHL/hockey fan if a championship series means nothing to you. Apparently it's only certain teams for you, not the game itself. My point is that it doesn't matter who the teams are. And how is NJ/Kings sucking when they haven't played a game yet? The concert/movie analogy doesn't really add up there.
  16. See what money you are holding? What, do you walk up there with 50's flashing? Plus, just because you have a 20 in your hand doesn't mean they are getting 20, or that you'll tip. I won't tip every time if I'm buying a beer for myself, it's maybe every other. Just me. But if you aren't going to get me decent service when I'm trying to buy your product, I'll move elsewhere.
  17. QUOTE (Papa Tru @ May 26, 2012 -> 11:15 AM) Does anyone else think its ridiculous to tip a bartender? Say what you will about me on this, but I never tip bartenders. I think its ridiculous that I buy a $2.00 beer and then have to tip you $1 or more because you reached down and opened it up. Thats not deserving of a tip, IMO. A waitress on the other hand, she actually has to go get it and bring it to me. That, I have no problem throwing $2-3 bucks for. However, if you are literally standing at the cooler and just hand me a beer I don't think I need to give you anything extra for that. There are enough drunk people in the place that will leave way more of a tip to make up for it anyway. I'm in on this, I don't feel the need to give you a dollar for popping a cap off my beer. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 26, 2012 -> 11:48 AM) You tip bartenders so theyll remember you when the bar is busy. In theory this could be good, but I'm still a guy without a huge rack. They aren't looking for me. And there's no way at a crowded bar they can memorize who each person is and how many times they've tipped, not to mention bars that have multiple bartenders. If you aren't going to give me a attention in a reasonable amount of time for me to buy something from your bar, then I'll find somewhere else, and you just cost your place some business.
  18. QUOTE (The Critic @ May 26, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) Of course they're playing good hockey, they're in the championship round. I just don't care about either team, and as I've said before, I need to have a rooting interest to watch. Watching just to watch would be like watching a Bears game for me. If it's on and I'm in the room, fine, but I'm not searching it out. Good and an exciting brand. Like I said, it's more of the "Stanley Cup Finals hockey is epic and as a hockey fan I want to follow until the conclusion of the season." It's the biggest stage for a sport you (in theory) enjoy. That or I guess you're really just a Hawks/Wings fan. It's like watching a movie for 2 hours then with 5 minutes left, bailing. I know people do this for other sports, but I just don't get it. If you have no interest in watching the championship game/series for a sport, you aren't really a fan of that sport, you're more of a fan of a particular team than anything.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2012 -> 10:02 AM) I'm rooting for Jersey because of Broduer. It was awesome to watch him celebrating last night. I'm beyond impressed that at this age and what he's gone through with injuries, he can backstop them to the finals. I won't be for one team heavily over the other, which is usually the case.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 25, 2012 -> 11:26 PM) I have really enjoyed the playoffs this year, but Kings/Devils is pretty meh to me. I'm sure I'll watch some, but not gonna go out of my way for it. QUOTE (The Critic @ May 25, 2012 -> 11:49 PM) Go Kings, I guess, but I don't really care that much. I'll watch if I happen upon it, but I won't seek it out. Both teams are playing really good hockey. Just because they aren't "name" teams, that means you wouldn't tune in? That's something a non-hockey fan would say. Also, if you're a fan of the NHL (or any sport for that matter), I don't know how you don't watch the championship series for that given sport.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) I'm just saying it's crazy and petty that sox fans on a Sox message board are blasting Hawk Harrelson. The guy may be the face of our franchise now that he is gone. This would be like blasting Paulie. It makes no sense and just seems anti-Chicago. The greatest city in the world and yet Sox fans (some of them) are blasting this legend in this thread. Weird. I just figure out of respect it should be in the filibuster area. Also, Hawk isn't leaving anytime soon, God willing health wise, and it seems dumb to arbitrarily blast him all season long (from now on if this threat lives). No, because Paulie doesn't absolutely suck at his job.
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:29 PM) Lease signed. Mid June move in. Ya, this is happening, Kenny! Aaaaaaaaaaand college Justin returns.
  23. Kings to the Finals. Hopefully they party with something equal to the talent above.
  24. There's currently a headline on the right side of the ESPN MLB page that reads: "Nationals activate Wang off DL" Cmon, you know you laughed too.
