  1. My girlfriend is awesome: "so yesterday i totally got yelled at for watching the sox game at work" "but yeah...you should be proud of yourself and the job you've done on turning me into a white sox fan-and don't you dare say i'm a bandwagon fan or any of that crap-i did it for you" "i don't even watch the cubs too much anymore-half the time i usually watch the sox games so i know what kind of a mood you're going to be in"
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) None...but I'm at the bar every Sunday cheering them on. I wake up hungover at noon to watch em from my couch/bed
  3. QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) nah, we're just grumpy old men Bingo.
  4. Besides alcohol? LOL I don't know...but it depends on what he likes. What is he into? You should probly plan something based around his hobbies/likes (and hopefully it's fun for everyone else involved). That's what would make a good bday party in my mind.
  5. Konerko's just looking for excuses, and reasons to b****
  6. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) In general most people respond better to positive reinforcement. There are exceptions of course. If it was up to me & I could orchestrate it for every home game I would have the fans yell in a uniformed chorus "WE WANT TO WIN!" Maybe I'll try to get the crowd going next time. That covers both cases: 1) The guys who feed on good vibes 2) The guys who need a kick in the rear once in a while Better yet it sends a STRONG message to the FRONT OFFICE as well. Alright, this has gone too far... Players play. They aren't dogs, and won't win based on who's cheering who or what.
  7. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) I'm not saying you don't have a right to boo. As a fan you do. But what do you hope to accomplish by doing it? Positive reinforcement has been proven to be a better psychological tool to getting the best out of people. Booing a player on your team has never made any sense to me. Booing players on the other team make all the sense in the world. So I would say the best time to express your boos is when the other team takes the field prior to your team coming to bat. That's when you should express all your frustration that your team is losing. When your team finally comes to bat, if they do nothing say nothing. If they get on cheer loudly. That's what I do. I also throw a sucks in there as well to make sure my team knows I'm booing the fact the visitors are beating us. I can't create positive reinforcement if all they are doing is negative things in the ballgame. Negative reinforcement still works. Also, booing players on the other team sometimes pumps them up. Some guys like getting booed in opposing parks.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Maybe it's just me, but some people are blowing this comment way out of proportion. What's PK going to say....I love bandwagon jumpers, hop on board? PK is our best offensive player...he can say whatever the hell he wants as long as he produces. I bet Illini fans had no problems with Weber as their coach, even though he said some pretty stupid things. Yeah, and i'm gonna rip him a new one for costing us the tying run yesterday. Paul just needs to shut up, he's obviously pissed off enough fans, whether they be bandwagoners or hard core.
  9. As my roommate's away message reads a lot of the time, "I am Curt Schilling Everyone else is a dumbass/douchebag/moron."
  10. I love Boers and Bernstein. I think you either love em or hate em. I just like to get some laughs in, and they are hilarious. Only other show i listen to is MJH, and even that's going downhill with all this damn bears talk, 95% of the show.
  11. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) I just wish he would highlight us die-hards more. The bandwagoners are the Cub fans & the Chicago fans who aren't really baseball fans but just want to ride the wave. Die-hards will always remain Sox fans & cheer them on. Win or Lose. But it doesn't mean we can't boo or be doubtful or talk negatively. Of course we want them to win every damn game. But we aren't going to cheer blindly.
  12. During the course of this season, i've slowly turned my girfriend from a casual cubs fan to a casual sox fan. She says that i've made her enough of a sox fan that she wants them to win because she knows it will make me happy (or knows a loss will make me pissed off). Either way, she's been better than expected in dealing with this. She knows not to call during games (often calls 2 minutes after last out), and she won't call or even IM me after a real tough loss. She's a die hard Illini bball fan like i am, so she knows what being passionate for a team is all about. My best friend told me that i can't be with someone who doesn't understand my sports teams obsession. At first i thought it was funny...now i realize he's right.
  13. Konerko can take this quote and shove it. Any true sox fan can doubt this team if they want. They can also boo. It doesn't mean we're off the bandwagon. First of all, all true Sox fans aren't on any sort of bandwagon. We're core fans and you shouldn't be talking about these bandwagon crap. Second of all, quit playing like crap and you won't get booed or doubted. We have every right to doubt you or talk negatively about you when we have put higher expectations on you than to just win the division. Konerko, you and your teammates put those expectations on yourselves. When you start playing like crap, you are going to get talked about. We're not going to pretend everything is nice and dandy and say "go white sox" when you lose 7 straight. The expectations are higher, so deal with it. Quit being such a baby.
  14. QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) just buy me some cotton candy and i'm happy I better not be around

    Back to school

    I had ice hockey class today, awesome. My schedule is packed Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday, but i have Fridays off and only hockey on Mondays. Pretty sweet, 4 day weekends. I'll probly have to do an assload of work for journalism on those weekends though.
