QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:52 AM) Yep, and it was an awful pitch. I have no clue why he didn't try to strike him out with the splitter. Also, I always thought the philosophy was late in the game that if the tying run is up, you make them beat you to the opposite field. In general, that's a good philosophy. Because they are less likely to go opposite field to tie the game on a HR. Depends on the guy though obviously, and where he's looking for the pitch. Many times catchers can notice if a batter is looking out or in, s*** like that. But yeah, probly should have stayed away on 2-2. 3-2 you just need to bring a strike, out in or wherever.

Just follow the instructions from the thing at US Cellular between innings... Always remember, Ice is nice. Also, motion is lotion. LMAO

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:45 AM) BTW, Hermanson doesn't seem too pleased about AJP's pitch selection to Cuddyer. In tomorrow's tribune, he states how AJP called for a low and in slider to Cuddyer, and Hermanson said he hasn't thrown many to righty batter. Thursday's day off can't come soon enough. Shake him off. Or go talk to him about it. You still threw the pitch.

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) that's the major thing that halted my interest in CFB up until i was at college. A top 4 team tournament at the end would make a world of difference. The BCS is messy. Up until about 2 years ago, i supported it to a T, one of the few people who did. Tons of arguments about it over the years at high school and s***. However, the one thing i LOVE about college football is that the regular season is uber important. Lose, and you are pretty much out. Big games are BIG games. I wouldn't mind an "and one" game after the bowls. But some years a 4 team tournament wouldn't work. What if 2 teams are undefeated? Why should 2 other teams get a shot at the title, if they have one loss? Etc Etc. There are tons of scenarios. But at least 4 is reasonable. Some people are like let's have an 8 or 16 team tournament. Are you nuts? Regular season would mean nothing. Ohio St/Michigan? Who cares who wins, cya in the playoffs. Oklahoma/Texas? Same thing. FSU/Florida, and so on and so forth. Games wouldn't mean s***, college football would lose it's luster. So you have to be careful with the solution, if it involves a playoff or whatever. At least the BCS is trying to improve every year, instead of being stubborn and thinking everything is perfect. I'm not saying all playoffs in all sports are bad at all, don't get me wrong. That's not what i dislike about the NFL. But the college game is different. Regular season is epic. Every week is win or go home. Gotta love that.

Thanks GHC. Figured as much, i guess, but couldn't really get pissed seeing as i only saw it live. Good to know i was right, though...still sharp on those calls.

He was dominant tonight. Twins hitters were literally walking to the dugout shaking their heads. It was pretty sweet to see. Then the 16th hit.

Can someone do me a favor who saw the game on TV or saw a replay or something...was the guy at first safe on the bunt? I was at the game, but only got one look at it, just like everyone else did. It was awful close. My first instinct (unbiased as always, because i'm an ump) said he got him just barely, but that was super close. Just wondering...not gonna blame the game on it. But when Ozzie came out again before the bottom of the 16th to talk to the first base ump, i figured he went (or someone else did) and saw a replay, and was telling him that he got it wrong. Otherwise, what the hell would he be talking to him about?

Just got back from the marathon game, boy was that a lame night. 5 hours 9 minutes for that.

I'll be there tonight, and since there's no Keith in attendance, they might win.

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) God the NFL sucks, how many ego's can one league handle? Just one more reason why i love college football way more than the NFL.

Yeah, i'd say Hawk went a little too far. I mean his comments lasted 1+ batter. Bit on the ridiculous side. Announce the game. And if he goes on his "where does griffey play" rant one more time....
-
Oh i remember that play well. Nothing pisses me off more than bad base running. Errors happen, 0 for 4's happen, but base running should always be there. Run hard, that's all you have to do (and just not make stupid decisions). It's the one constant you can control. Hustle. It's also the most coachable aspect in baseball, IMO.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) Here is the bulls*** quote of the night from Pauly Konerko "I didn't know where the ball was," Konerko said. "I was jammed so bad. After I saw the play go to third, I tried for second. I was safe. I'm out 99 out of 100 times, so I know when I'm safe." You didnt know where the ball was. How the f*** is that possible. You sat statuesque watching the ball go up. You posed like you were on the box of wheaties and then you come up with the comment, I didnt know where the ball was. :fyou You know what, me might not be lying. Maybe he didn't know where the ball was. And that's perfectly fine, i have no problems with that. If that's the case, though, START RUNNING TO FIRST, you can never go wrong running to first at any time in any at bat. He was safe, sure, but i don't care. If you are going to make the play that close due to stupid base running...2 different times...then you should get flamed for it.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) I still say the play that showed how this team played tonight happened earlier. Crede has a close play at the plate, he should of plowed over the catcher. That would of energized our team more than anything. Not only does it show the twins we can play hard, but it shows that we are the new badass on the block. But crede slows down as he gets to the plate, then tries some around move and is tagged out by 3 feet. If he plowed over Mauer its a closer play and gives us a chance to score. That to me, was a big tell in this game. You don't run over catchers for the sake of running over catches. It just causes problems. Mauer gave him the plate. You only run a guy over if he's blocking the plate. Showing you are the new badass on the block is done by winning the game, not making up for something you are still whining about from last year. Who cares. That's not how the game of baseball is played.
-
Also, if Uribe could throw a ball to the plate without bouncing it, we may have saved another run.

Bear with me here, this description might suck. Did anyone have one of those whiffle ball machines? The one i had, you would step on this circle like thing, which would trigger the machine to shoot a ball up into the air, then you'd hit it. It was electronic. I remember playing with that thing for hours.

I had a decent amount of pogs...but i had about 15 different slammers. I bought em in this package, there were all types of thicknesses, materials, etc. It was nuts. I would have each slammer be used for a different stack...depending on how many pogs were in there, you know. I was a real strategist....lmao. Pogs were banned at my elementary school, i do remember that much. Kinda weird.

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) anybody else have one of these? they were magnets and you could keep track of standings and stuff. I had one of those for hockey...magnets and then filled out the standings with a dry erase marker. I had a separate board for the playoffs.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) Can you do me a favor and never correct my spelling or grammar again. Take a look at your post one more time. They're. Edit: Nice edit Kalapse. Perhaps we should discuss Griffey in this thread, just a thought.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) That's how I feel about it. Everybody I know does it, but I don't see exactly what it does. One of my friends said it was a way to meet people but you aren't meeting them. You're just putting your name on lists and such. I've refused to join it as well. All it is, IMO, is a contest to see who can create the biggest friends list. "Please by my friend, you'd make #218 on it!!!!!" Facebook is lame.
