OK, Everett . . .
Pods doesn't have the range nor the arm Rowand has. Pods is just fast. That doesn't make you a great outfielder

Friday night lights..
All i want to say about the story of Friday Night Lights is that it is awesome. I read the book many years before the movie came out, and the book is flat-out awesome. Steff, i know you probly won't wanna waste time reading the book now, but the book does the team and town more justice than the movie does. The movie is a bit juiced up. But overall the story is a great one IMO, and yes it's true. HS football is a HUGE deal in Texas. To anyone who saw the movie and didn't appreciate it fully...i recommend the book if you have time.

The Sox Offense
At the same time...same league, same baseball, same batters box. His at bats are just brutal right now, no excuse for it.

The Sox Offense
QUOTE(TheDybber @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) I'm sorry, did I see the record right? Is that 6-3? We are only 9 games into the season people. We haven't even hit double digits yet and we are already switching batting order? Let the players get comfortable. If this is still going on by the end of May (first quarter of the season) THEN you can start worrying. We are in first. Wrong attitude at this point, IMO. Just because you are in first NINE GAMES into the season doesn't mean there aren't problems you can fix.

Billy Beane Jr's all over the place in this thread... Though even Beane wouldn't take one year, extrapolate it, and call him the next Mark Grace.

On a side note, Gload should not get rid of his wife...and he does, i'm all over it

QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) If you extrapolate last years numbers, Gload would've been right at Grace's average season 2B total. Let's see more than just one year of extrapolated numbers before you call him Mark Grace, is what i'm saying. I don't want Gload as our starting first baseman unless we have some ridiculously huge power pickup somewhere else. IMO, people are really overplaying this ozzieball crap right now. It's won us games, and now no one wants power anywhere. But like quickman wisely points out - The HR has, in fact, won us some games this year. Period.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Look at their stats. Sure, grace did it for a much longer time but you can see gload can become a mark grace type player. Both have below average power for a first baseman. You have to remember grace never hit 20 in a season. Grace is a .300 hitter and gload definitely has the potential for that. He is a .301 hitter in the majors and grace was a .303 hitter. Both are lefties with really good gloves. I can see gload being a .300/ 15-20/ .360/ .450 type player which would be very similar to grace. The lowest i see gload hitting is .270-275 in all honesty. Will Gload lead the majors in doubles for an entire decade? I just wouldn't bank on Gload becoming Grace, even if they are 'similar.'

That's a whole lof of ifs right there, and some trades i don't think are possible. Anyway...while i'm not obsessed with the HR, like quickman said, you still need to hit some. Take Konerko away from this team and you really have no power for all intents and purposes. "ozzieball" can only do so much for a team. All i'm saying is, if you are going to under-produce at 1B, you have to make up for that somewhere else in the lineup, and by a big margin. With our current roster, we don't have that, and it's not going to be easy to acquire that either. The only position "available" for that updgrade is 3B.

How the hell does Gload=Grace?

The Sox Offense
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) Jermaine may just not be that good anymore... His three year splits are BAD, but obviously those are effected by injurys. Still he's .240/.306/.429 vs. RHP since 2002, that's not the line of somebody who I'd like hitting behind Konerko. Another reason why Rowand shouldn't be batting 6th...

The problem though witesoxfan is that you are getting that production at a very big power position in MLB, and the rest of your lineup is now lacking in power. You have to somehow replace Konerko's power, or Gload is really a glaring weakness, no matter if he puts up "respectable" numbers or not.

The Sox Offense
Since i don't expect much out of Crede and Uribe batting 8th and 9th, they haven't been HUGE disappointments to me. My biggest concern so far this year has been Dye. He has done absolutely nothing for me, and has had some terrible at bats. IMO, he's trying to pull the ball a little too much as well. Dye really needs to start earning all this money.

I think our RA's at Illinois are pretty worthless, don't have much impact, etc...if you're making a difference, all the props to you.
