  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2013 -> 12:11 AM) No I meant for one season no other variables. Is there anyone you want other than him at this point. I'm a bit biased since I love his game but he's a real elite player. For one season, it'd be hard not to take Chara. Maybe Karlsson. He's a great player. He's one guy I was right about very early on when a lot of people hated this small guy who seemingly played like the skinny guy in Ice Hockey. You could see he was an extremely great skater at that point, was very quick, relentless and had good instincts. He just needed some experience and a bit of bulk. I mean, the guy scored what Lance Armstrong did in his prime on the fitness test on the bike.
  2. Loving me some Blacklist and Chicago Fire this season. The League ended on a positive note.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 28, 2013 -> 12:00 AM) It's been a tragic year in many regards with a lot of deaths, unfortunate situations caused by human beings. That said, we are all thankful to be alive and are great assets to this planet ... and though we may disagree on Ozzie Guillen's value to a team and Paul Konerko's value, we can agree on one thing (I think). Turkey and stuffing is delicious. Happy Turkey Day! Well now you've done it. Rowand44 will be here soon to go on his annual rant about hating Thanksgiving food. Of course, he's either an idiot, or simply doesn't have a family that knows how to cook. Or both. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Can't wait for everyone to appreciate what they have for a short time and then run out to the stores tomorrow night and push people around for things they don't yet have...
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 10:26 PM) Good debate tonight. Would you trade Keith for any other D man? Are we factoring in age, like as in a trade? Or just for this season? If based on age/potential: Karlsson and Subban. You'd trade Keith for one of them right now without a doubt. Other guys to consider: Chara, Suter, maybe Weber. That's probably everyone I'd bring into a discussion.
  5. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) But the same arguments were levied against those schools (with the possible exception of TCU in '11). Shoot, people on this board argued after Utah beat Alabama in '09 that the Utes only won because Bama didn't care. NIU probably loses if they get a BCS game. But the fact that they are in the MAC, or that they lost to Florida State last year, are irrelevant to whether an undefeated Northern team this year "deserves" a shot at a BCS bowl. Fine, take out last year if you must. I don't think this current team stacks up to a Boise St from years ago. I don't think they hang in there with a top 10 team in a BCS bowl, and looking at the resume, they aren't on par with those teams, just as the resume wasn't last year either. Being in the MAC isn't irrelevant, as that's the only way we can judge their resume is by the relative strength of the conference and the teams they have played.
  6. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 09:28 AM) How do these teams that switch conferences get the games scheduled. They also added an extra game a year or two back. I think some games are locked in, the major OOC games Texas/OSU, ND/Michigan, I think the patsies are added a little later along with the conference games. The fact is teams will not travel to Dekalb, you wanna play NIU, play them at Soldier Field. Major teams want to play in major stadiums. As they should. If the American conference, I do not even know what that is, gets an automatic bid, NIU makes it no worse. Now with Fresno, NIU and that silly American conference game the BCS games drop down in visibility. One of those make sense but all three, nope. Northern needs to pass Fresno to get in. Iowa is actually looking like a decent win fro NIU. NIU has also won big recently and is playing its best football of the season. That along with a tie into the Chicago market gives them a decent marketing niche. The best thing for Northern would be a Gator or Outback bowl against another 10-20th ranked team. Sadly, that is not an option. A good game would be New Year's Day, NIU V Northwestern or even NIU v Notre Dame at the good ole Soldier Field or the Wrigley Field. Chicago really should have built a dome stadium. Might want to check northwestern's record...
  7. Anyone have a specific brand or style of golf shoe to rec?
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 08:57 AM) I've never watched a game with an Illini fan who wasn't crying about how announcers were biased against them. You didn't watch last night, so whatever. You also just had an unbiased fan spell it out for you. Try to keep your students from being ejected again.
  9. Nd needs to play in dekalb, that's all there is to it. So many benefits, no risk.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 08:28 AM) Clearly it's not a no win situation. Beating them knocks them out of a BCS spot and opens up one for potentially yourself or even someone else in your conference. If you lose to them you're probably not good enough to get into a BCS game anyway. So one team needs to take on the task of going to niu to knock them out when its likely they wont even be in the race for it in that year, and turn down a home game. Lol at thinking a big name team would go to niu. No benefit, all risk. Maybe nd will schedule it.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 07:14 AM) If everybody wants to keep NIU out of the BCS, then why doesn't a Top 20 team grow a pair and go up to DeKalb and beat them? That would solve the problem. I have no sympathy for Baylor, Oregon, Michigan State, or whatever team ends up being the one who doesn't go to a BCS game because of NIU. Iowa is the best team that NIU has beaten because Iowa is the best team that will play them. Because that's a no win situation, plus schedules being set so far in advance, they could easily suck when you play them.
  12. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 01:15 AM) Work, for the most part. If something is going on in the sports world that I'm interested in, I'll find a way to mix it in with my music while I drive as well. I'm also one of those people that fall asleep better with background noise, so while I bought an air purifier that has a nice, steady hum for that reason, I'll sometimes have The Les Grobstein Takes Calls From the Stupid Show that airs overnights on 670. Most of my my sports talk consumption, though, takes place leading up to and during the baseball season. With the Bears/NFL- after the third or fourth day of talking about the same game, it's just not that riveting anymore. No denying that they are and will be for the foreseeable future, it's just not my cup of tea. I wouldn't be pouncing on my radio to absorb every second of Chicago Sky or Chicago Bandits talk if they were dominating their respective leagues either. Did you really just compare the bandits and sky to the hawks?
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 12:55 AM) You are lucky that Groce and the Illini won tonight
  14. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 12:16 AM) When did I say anything about race? It's the only reason I could see for having that bother you.
  15. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 10:15 PM) Probably going to have to turn to NPR and hope that they do a sports segment sometime during the 9-1 slot. Not too long ago, I think one of the topics they looked into was The origins of Chicago sports mascots. That's far more compelling than Larry being full of himself, name-dropping people who might not even know who he is, and verbally ogling women in the Chicago media on the air like a creeper. That's just makes for an uncomfortable listen. I really hope Mac comes back, even if it means I have to listen to more blackhawks or gambling talk packed into 4 hours than I'd care to hear in 100 lifetimes. Yes, please don't talk about the best team in the city. More bears talk!
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 12:21 AM) I do. It's a meaningless football game, let the mid majors have some fun. Who wants to see Clemson pull a Clemson again? Baylor's QB tripped on his own two feet. Mizzou sucks. Stupid.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 06:51 PM) Many a BCS bowl have sucked that have had big conference teams At least those teams deserved to be there.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) Tonite NIU takes another step towards angering everyone that does not want to share the precious BCS Because we saw it, and it sucked.
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 11:41 PM) Ha check the fantasy thread. I needed every yard. Or the gronk td that wasn't ruled correctly. Looks like Brady will ne solid rest of the way. Have him solo in one league, him and Wilson in another, that'll be tough.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 11:30 PM) I bet alot of people went to bed at half. For sure. But you could see a ton of empty seats in the second half. If you made the effort to go all the way out there, you can't jet at halftime.
  21. And that's why you never leave a game, you never even give yourself the opportunity to see a comeback like that.
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 10:50 PM) If the Broncos score a td here I'm gonna punch Beli in the face. You love Boston, I knew it
  23. QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 07:37 PM) what happened to the defense in college basketball this year? Seems like a lot of teams are dropping 80-90 points or having 45+ halves regularly. Emphasis on rules/free throws
  24. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 09:53 AM) Your credit score is basically how good of a customer you are for companies who want you to spend $$$$ on finance charges. The more money you pay in interest, the higher your score. The person who actually pays for things immediately instead of taking out a series of micro-loans receives a lower score. Put money in the bank and pay for those new clothes when you buy them, lower score. Take out a $150 loan to buy those jeans, higher score. Best of all, when you have a high enough score, when you take out that loan for dinner, the interest will be lower. You want a lower interest, just not 0% from paying upfront. Again, nice racket and the credit card industry has done a remarkable marketing job as will be witnessed by the following posts that will defend taking out loans via credit cards. Not sure this is accurate at all. http://www.myfico.com/crediteducation/whatsinyourscore.aspx
