Ill tell you one thing. If this managed to happen we can forget about the Olympics. We would be talking about 1-2 weeks of bar brawls, rioting, hate crimes, vandalism and looting with the whole country and a lot of the world watching. In 05 I couldnt handle Cubs fans at the bars who were just there to root against the Sox (even though a division rival was in it too) Imagine what would happen. There would honestly be fights in tons of bars every night.

I wonder how much different it would be then the Subway series in 2000 or whenever that was? Its easy to say living in Chicago but I think the Cubs/Sox rivalry is bigger than the Yankees and Mets. Especially because most Yankee fans probably use most of their hate on the Red Sox.

Gaffes, Misstatements, and other verbal stumbles
DrunkBomber replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
I put that its completely irrelevant. I couldnt care less about things like that and I think its a waste of time to use them as argument points. Im much more concerned with the policies the candidates stand for and how they apply to their track record. -
QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) Do you know who cares about this??? Cub fans. This and attendance. Every time I remember how I heard BS growing up for being a Sox fan I see this and realize if it wasnt for real fans the Sox would die and thank god there are idiots like us to always root for them.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 08:20 AM) I think I wasn't clear on the whole Wright/Trinity thing. I wasn't saying it isn't still an issue for some - I was saying that because its been so aired out, they don't have to make a big deal of it. All they have to do is hint at it every so often, to keep it fresh in people's minds. That's easier to do, effective, and makes McCain look less divisive, so I think that's the plan. As for not knowing him, it seems you do - as you are aware of his voting record. And I don't think McCain's rally speeches are any more an indicator of his policies than Obama's are to his. The GOP will, as I said, definitely try to get Obama to focus on his record, mostly because there is so little of it. I agree completely on the Trinity issue. Everyone that had a problem with that story isnt going to forget what was said so to repetitively use it would be in poor taste. Im sure the media will keep it fresh enough in everyones mind that McCain can focus on further exposing Obamas lack of experience instead. I personally hate it when politicians spend more time focusing on other candidates weaknesses instead of focusing on their own strengths. I realize its always going to happen either way though which is what turned me off an Hillary even more. Let the media air out the dirty laundry.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) Just watched American Gangster. I know I'm probably one of the last people to see that movie, but it definitely lived up to my expectations. Once again, Denzel was awesome in his role. The storyline is great but the only problem I had with it was they tried to force too much into not enough time. I know it was really long but there was a lot of stuff that doesnt get explained that could be crucial in the story.

White Sox sign Esteban Loaiza/Option Wassermann

When Ozzie went on a rant about needing more offense I didnt think he meant for the other team...Maybe if we play our cards right we can lure Carl Everett or Robbie Alomar too. -
I played drinking games with Lance Briggs and Bobby Wade at U of A in '02 I think. I had idea who they were at the time.

any chance tonight's game is rained out?
DrunkBomber replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It says its gonna rain on and off today and tonight but nothing heavy. Id assume they wont cancel the game. -
That reminds me, I actually posted this in Slam last year but I saw Jim Thome at Claimjumper in Lombard when he was on the DL and it was actually when the team was on a road trip.

One time I saw Contreras walking out of an AARP office...and that was like 6 years ago.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) from chicagosports.com Not sure if I'd make the trade. I'll have to think it through. Would a lineup of Hinrich Wade Deng Beasley Gooden be good enough to win the East? If it included the second pick absolutely. However, theres no way that Miami likes one of those guys so much more than the other that they would trade Wade and the second pick for it. I doubt it would happen at all but it would have to be something like our pick for Wade and another player or a future draft pick.

I just watched 21 on DVD. I was pretty disappointed, that movie kindd of sucked.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 06:40 PM) http://www.redlasso.com/ClipPlayer.aspx?id...9f-0546c2b52336 Here is the last round of Kimbo vs Colossus. Decide for yourself on Thompsons face push and Kimbo's stamina. Kimbo threw a couple of haymakers that i didnt notice I didnt disagree about Kimbos stamina, I knew he was shot. I just didnt think calling the fight the way they did was controversial or that Colossus was reacting to the decision. He seems out of it from when the punch that cut his ear landed until about 5 seconds after he realized it was over. With those uppercuts Kimbo was throwing, if he would have landed one of those he really could have hurt that guy.
-
Id like to see Brett Rogers get his shot at Kimbo but I doubt that will happen. They actually might go deeper in the barrel to find a bigger bum for Kimbo to fight. Theyre gonna have to be very careful picking his opponents in his upcoming fights.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) If anyone sees the replay for the WEC card from Vs. last night you should watch it. The last two fights are awesome. Was that the Pulver/Faber fight?

I saw last week a minor leaguer got traded for a bunch of bats. If we need one that bad Im sure we got someone in the minors that can demand at least one good bat.

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) Imo, he knew exactly what was going on, he was just flabbergasted at the stoppage. His eyes followed the refs hands (the signal that the fight was over), his eyes then snapped back to the refs face and he looks incredulous. The ref was saying something, probably that the fight was over, then he flailed out at him. I can see that I guess but I doubt we will never really know. Theres no way the guy is ever going to admit he was dazed but at the same time a few seconds before the fight was stopped he looked like he was lost.
-
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) definitely not a punch, it was an open fingered "push the face away" type deal. There was no swinging involved, Thompson was still trying to get his bearings when it happened And to Drunkbomber, I agree with the "Colossus fighting the ref" comment, but I definitely think that Kimbo was just about done when they stopped the fight. I dont disagree with that at all. I know Kimbo was exhausted, but I think he did enough to end the fight and I think Colossus had no idea what was going on when the fight was stopped. You can see it in his face.
-
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) I dont understand what you didnt like, thats exactly what happened I dont think that the reason he took a shot at the ref was because he was mad he stopped the fight, I think it was because he didnt know what was going on. If you look at the clip of the end of the fight you can see Kimbo landed enough shots where he was dazed. The look on his face when the ref grabbed him said it all. I do think the fight was a joke in the sense of Elite XC trying to find a guy Kimbo would smoke but I dont think there is any doubt Kimbo won the fight or that it was stopped prematurely. Colossus was done and if they would have let the fight continue that guy would have gotten hurt. If Colossus did in fact hit the ref in the face because he was pissed and not confused I would think he would be in a hell of a lot of trouble. You cant go and hit a ref in the face because you disagree with a decisison.
