QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 29, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) It would be more fair to do so if Obama was actually Roman Catholic. The excerpt you posted had Maher specifically targeting Roman Catholics and not broader christianity. Obama's church is part of United Church of Christ, so the Pope has no authority there whether he's a Nazi or not. The example wasnt really anything that I was trying to seriously propose at being true. It was just a quick example of why people shouldnt be held to the standards of the most vocal and controversial members of their political party.

For Example: Since Bill Maher is a liberal, is it fair to apply his thoughts on Christianity to Obama and say he is a member of a cult that promotes pedophilia and he is under the control of a Nazi Pope? The same way that Malkins comments about a terrorist scarf were used about McCains daughter...

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 29, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) Honestly, both the far left and the far right are pretty easy to generalize. They all tend to think and act the same, and if I was reading an argument somewhere I could probably predict a response/reaction with about 95% accuracy. I agree for the most part. When it comes to things like terrorism though I think its in very poor taste to pull an article that talks about something as stupid as this one did and then to assume that because the person that said it is from the far right that every conservative agrees.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 29, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Malkin all have large followings in this country and they represent a pretty sizable portion of the population.Good point. From now on throw out anything McCain or any real politician says and draw conclusions from some of the most extreme opinions in the media. Just because these people have large followings doesnt mean that their opinions are all of a sudden the voice of the right.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 29, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Forget the link he provided and use this one. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi...0,6304563.story Im not saying it wasnt said. Im saying that its in poor taste to try and somehow use this to generalize the right. When the biggest name they use as a critic of the ad is a political blogger, Michelle Malkin, maybe take the news for what its worth, nothing.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 29, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) HuffPo was simply reporting that there was an outcry from the conservative right that it was an inappropriate ad. I dont see the problem in that. Let the record show, i am not a big fan of "partisan" reporting. As a kinda sorta journalist (majored in radio broadcasting), I believe it should be fair and BALANCED. I would hardly consider a controversial political blogger the voice of the conservative right. Im sure if someone posted something some liberal blogger said that was controversial and then claimed it as an outcry of the liberal left you would be the first one to discredit it.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 29, 2008 -> 11:55 AM) I just want to make it clear that it is supposed to be satirical. The point being this whole argument is stupid. Well, it is true! Anytime anyone posts anything from Fox News youre the first one to chime in about the slant they put on things. Then you use the Huffington Post which does the same thing. Its kind of hypocritical.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 24, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) Anyone ever regret watching a video online (specifically graphic in nature) that is so disturbing you can't get out of your head? Earlier today I was interested in the "Battle at Kruger" video and began browsing various link through Google. Suddenly interested in Lions I continued watching similarily themed videos, and through one website there was a side bar listing related clips. Similar to Youtube. One is entitled, "Tourist killed by Lion as family/friends watch." I don't know what compeled me other than morbid curiousity, but I immediately regretted the decision. The short clip chronicled a group of tourists in the early 70's viewing lions inside the confines of their cars, literally, within feet of the animals. Anyone could just step out and touch it. A narrator suggests the video was used in a lawsuit against an insurance company, so you know whatever is forthcoming will be bad. For whatever reason, this man -- with a camera -- exists his car to film a lion laying on the ground. From behind a Lion knocks him over and begins biting. The camera is shakey, understandably, and the clips shown sporadically cut from several lions (with blood visible on the man) attempting to kill this guy, to a shot of his children in the car; his infant child crying in the backseat. Probably due to his older brother and mother screaming. It ends with several lions chomping away on this guy's lifeless corpse. Now, I've seen numerous videos before depicting people dying or being killed, but this one was especially disturbing. I believe what made it so bad, from my perspective, was knowing this guy's family was within plain sight of this attack and nearby friends couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't help but think what happened in the following years. How did the children do growing up without their father? Or the wife, knowing her husband's own stupidity led to his demise? On camera, nonetheless. There's no dignity in that kind of death. Well after reading this I had to go check it out. The ending was pretty bad. Something tells me it would have been a lot worse if it were more recent if there was better camera equipment, Im glad there wasnt. It looked like the Lion took off with the camera at the end too. A few years ago when I discovered youtube for the first time I saw some bad videos. Lots of people getting shot or bad injuries. I think its on topic, I saw Baghdad ER on HBO a few times and thats really bad. Not only does it show amputations and people dying. It shows their friends reactions and even amputated body parts. Its a very effective way at making people at home really understand what the troops really have to go through over there and makes you have that much more admiration for them. My dad was an Army Ranger during Vietnam and he has told me some stories but seeing something like this makes it seem a lot more real.

That definitely got a lol from me -
The only thing I would say is maybe try to keep the actual GOP and Dem threads for ONLY GOP and Dems. The way a lot of the discussions go in the buster anything that is mentioned without a link or solid facts why you think a certain way itll get torn apart. I think if you want to discuss ideas or share opinions with people of your own party without worrying about criticism.

This doesnt surprise me. Im sure just about every politician has people around them that witness and even have to cover up stuff that theyve done. In Bush's case its just on a much larger scale. Like others have said, the fact hes using the info to cash in on a book would hurt his credibility but I dont think there are many people that are going to blatantly disagree and find it hard to believe him.

I, like most people, think this is stupid and couldnt really care less about it. However, if youre going to criticize people for using an article from "Faux" News, maybe dont use the Huffington Post...

Firefighters Being Fired For Not Speaking Spanish
DrunkBomber replied to DrunkBomber's topic in The Filibuster
Its pretty obvious we all have very different ideas about language barriers and what we feel is the best way to handle them. Im sure everyone gathered I am adamantly opposed to stuff like the topics in the two articles in the thread and I personally think to be a citizen you should at least have to attempt to learn the language and assimilate yourself. I dont care what means they use to do it or how they accomplish it either. If people that live in this country dont make any effort to learn the language that the vast majority speak than it shouldnt be our jobs to accommodate them. If you want to be a part of American culture you should at least try to fit in instead of moving to a small community where nobody speaks English. I can see the other sides point and I can understand where theyre coming from but since as of right now there are no laws to force anyone to speak either language than its basically two sides with different opinions that no matter how good of an argument the other side makes nobody will change their views. -

Earl Manigault They made a movie about his life called "Rebound" Not the stupid one with Martin Lawrence. Don Cheadle played him well. Its an interesting story. Id recommend the movie too.

I was the one who left off Banks. I didnt even really think about him. I actually didnt want to put any Cubs that I havent seen play and Maddux completely slipped my mind. I also have never watched hockey so I had no Blackhawks. I thought about adding some guys but wouldnt know where to rank them since Ive never seen them.

I dont know if anyone remembers, or even tried, the thing where you type failure into the search bar and hit Im feeling lucky. A few years ago it took you right to GWBs webpage. It definitely did that too because I personally have seen it. So I wouldnt say this was for sure a mistake or anything. Either way though I dont know why anyone would be that concerned about it. Who really cares. The day that I let Googles holiday celebrations affect my mood is the day I need to take a long hard look in the mirror and punch myself in the face.
