  17. Ryan Garko-1B-Indians Jul. 27 - 9:25 pm et According to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse, the Giants have acquired first baseman Ryan Garko from the Indians for LHP Scott Barnes and a PTBNL. The Giants have been eyeing a first baseman to replace Travis Ishikawa, and Garko is a nice fit. The 28-year old is batting .285/.362/.464 this season with 11 home runs and 39 RBI. He's a force against left-handed pitchers and is under team control through 2012. Barnes, 21, has gone 12-3 with a 2.85 ERA and a 99/29 K/BB ratio in 18 starts (99 innings) for Single-A San Jose.
  18. Dodgers, Indians Deny Reports About Lee, Martinez Talks 4:26pm: Rosenthal now says that both clubs have "strongly denied" the previous reports that the teams were in serious talks about Martinez and Lee. Rosenthal says the clubs are talking, but the question now, becomes: about what? The Dodgers have had interest in Lee, but including Martinez is a new development, if it's true. The names in previous reports have surfaced in talks, but club officials say that trade is not currently in the works.
  19. Cliff Lee-S- Indians Jul. 26 - 4:47 pm et According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers and Indians are in serious discussions about a trade that would send Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez to the Dodgers for a package including either Clayton Kershaw or Chad Billingsley. James Loney would also be involved, which makes sense because Martinez would play first base most of the time in L.A. We imagine that the Indians would prefer Kershaw, who will be a lot cheaper than Billingsley over the next few years. It's certainly be a fascinating trade if it gets done. Source: FOXSports.com
  20. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) Yeah but will Riccardi want to trade within the division? If he packaged Halladay and Downs to the Yanks in 1 deal though, he could certainly get a HUGE package back. Depends on the price. Downs was the reason why the Phils and Yanks were the only teams scouting the Jays last night. With the Yanks only looking at Downs
  21. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) Downs would be ideal as he's a good groundball reliever who also strikes out quite a few hitters. But he's also the Jays closer right now, so he won't come cheap. Some guys I'd like to see us target (if we moved Dotel); Peter Moylan - Throws at a very high velocity and is a 66% GB reliever. His ERA should be lower (FIP at 2.81) so I think he'd be a good target, plus he's an Aussie to boot. Brad Ziegler - Another excellent groundball reliever who can close. Pedro Feliciano - The Mets are going nowhere, and he's been a good reliever for a few seasons. Decent GB rate of 58%. David Weathers - Not a great GB reliever, but he's experienced, got good numbers, and the Reds are slipping. Yanks want Downs big time.
